Off we head to our annual December trip to Disney. First time at the Beach Club. I am not looking forward to it at all. My DS2 and DD9 and DH are so excited. I am just so worried that someone will end up sick. I had DS2 at the doctor yesterday to check his ears and he has fluid in them, but is not sick. Dr sent an antibiotic and ear drops to clear it up. I think he should be fine.
Now I come to find a baby the kids were around (as in the same room as) was throwing up last night a few times. I could cry. I keep reminding myself that they are exposed to kids all the time who have the stomach bug (at school, swim practice, when DS was at the drs office yest).

Sorry, just needed to get this out, ask for prayers. Dont think I am crazy please. I am getting off a bad week dealing with my sister (who is 29) and how she treats my parents. Guess that is why I am so down too. Have a good laugh at this...I have already started a novena. Hope it helps!

Dont have too much fun on here without me!

Relax...have fun...BREATHE!! It's Disney! Even a sick day at Disney is better than a healthy day at home.

What we always take with us on vacation is ginger snaps or ginger capsules that you can find in the vitamin section. We also take Oscullium - it is the best thing for fighting the flu. You can get it in the drug store by the cold/flu items. You get enough doses to treat two people in one package. The package contains these little vials of little round pellets that you place under your tongue. They taste sweet so little ones will like it. It like putting sugar granules under your tongue. Within 24 hrs you will feel better. It has always worked for us.

Oh one other thing we take is clorox wipes. As soon as we get in the room I wipe the door handles/light switches/ bathroom/sink handles. I also attach a trail size purell bottle to the outside of the bag I am carring. We use it often. I pack in my carry on a larger purell bottle and make sure to fill the travel size bottle before we leave the room.
Also we don't touch the tray tables on the airplane. YUCK think of all the germs that are on there.
We always place the remote in a zip lock bag. Never know where the remote has been. YUCK.

Keeping my fingers crossed that everyone stays healthy. Hope you have a great trip.

It will be fine! We've had trips where everyone was well and a couple when some of us were sick. The trips when sick were fine too as one of us stayed in with the sick child and the other went to the parks with the other kids. Don't worry about it.

As far as your sister and your parents, there's not much you can do-take it from someone who has had and still has siblings like this. Don't bring this worry with you on the trip. This trip is about you, your husband, and your children. Direct your energy to having a good time.

My fingers are crossed for you as well! COnsidering the weather we're about to have here, I'd rather be sick where you are gonna be than healthy here ;)

Have a WICKED good time and let us know how it went when you get back

You can also take Ocsillococcinum as a preventative. I started taking it every couple days starting the week before the trip until after we got home last Friday. So far so good. If you are not familiar with it, it is a homeopathic medicine that is the #1 flu medicine in Europe (so they say). It also helps with colds. It looks like sugar crystals and tastes just like it, too.

So many people were letting their kids crawl on the floor in the waiting lines, hang on the ropes/chains between the queues, then stick their fingers in their mouths. Lots of people walking out of the restrooms without washing their hands. GROSS!!! Take a small Purell for the parks (I found one that hangs on my purse strap) and a larger one for the hotel room so you can refill the smaller one. Disney has hand sanitizer dispensers in the parks, but you can't find them when you need/want one.

Is this Ocsillococcinum ok for the kids?? is it too late to start it?

Relax... I was the same way for about a month before our trip. We left Nov 21st. I was so worried one of us would get sick. I had some stress from my Mom being in the hospital too. So I was not at all excited to be leaving. I felt like not going, but I didn't want the kids upset. I worried for the first couple days of our trip, but we had tons of fun. We went through 5 bottles of hand sanitizer. We washed our hands a lot. We never got sick on the whole 14 day trip. It was so much fun that I didn't want to come home.!!

Yes it is safe for kids. And it is sweet so the kids won't mind taking it unlike some other medicine. Yes you can take it now. The directions are to take one capsule under the tongue 3 times a day usually in 6 hour intervals.

I have felt the same way, not so much about getting sick, I just am not in the mood! I was to leave on jan 4th. I just canceled my paid for vacation. My heart is not into it, and one might say I am depressed!
I am going to aim for May. But go, and I am sure you will have a great time!

Erin I predict your fears/worries will melt away when you get to WDW. Have fun:earsboy:

Our family came back from Disney a month ago - my kids were on antibiotics for strep and sinus infection, so I thought we were covered - until we got the flu while we were there . There are some suggestions I'd make to you to be as prepared as you can be if something does happen while you're there:

- Bring plenty of children's Tylenol, Motrin and whatever multi-cold symptom product you prefer .
- Bring your thermometer.
- Double check your health insurance - we went to CentraCare and had to pay cash because they didn't accept our plan. Check which pediatricians or urgent care centers near WDW take your insurance before you leave.
- If you have one, bring your portable DVD player or even one from home you can hook up - I know it's extra to pack, but my 9 year old was stuck in the room for 3 days with nothing but the Disney Resorts programming - not very many selections at all .
- You're at the Beach Club - this is great, because you can order room service if you need to. That was an absolute lifesaver for us at the Poly.

Good luck to you - hopefully everything will be fine and no one will get sick. Have a great trip :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for your tips and well wishes!

I will take all sorts of cleaning supplies...hand gel, wipes, etc. As well as the vitamins and other things you suggested.

We have all had the flu and H1N1 vaccines well over a month ago so both should be working in all of us.

I just have to keep reminding myself that we will be ok!!!!!!!

Thanks!

 Isn't it amazing what we moms can find to worry ourselves sick about?

The Ocsillococcinum is cheapest at the W**mart store. My 8 and 11 year olds have taken it with no problem. The back of box says for children 2 and up. Yes, I have these stocked up with all my other OTC medicines. :thumbsup2 You can take this stuff at the same time you are doing the Zicam or any flu/cold medicine. There is NO drug interaction with the Ocsillococcinum.

NikitaZee has a great packing list. :thumbsup2

Best wishes for a healthy trip. May you make many happy memories!!

You've all had both types of flu shots - you've received some great suggestions here on what to take with you - so I think you'll be fine..:thumbsup2

Have a great holiday trip! :santa:

You do realize you are doing yourselves more harm than good not allowing your body to build up immunity to germs, right???

OP, I agree with others, bring some medicine just in case and have fun. If you get sick, you get sick, at least you don't have to cook and clean while you are sick at Disney :thumbsup2

We leave on Friday and my kid got sick Sunday night! Still has a fever but went to the Dr. today and he does not have strep or the flu according to the rapid test. He was vaccinated for H1N1 so we are hoping the fever is gone tomorrow. He made it most of the day today without meds.

So now I figure he will be fine but the other 2 will come down with it while we are there!

I'm not a "germaphobe", but my kids have gotten a stomach bug after being in Disney for a week. When we go again I'll definitly be sanitizing more.
Hoenestly wouldn't you use Purell after visiting a hospital or do you follow that way of thought always?
