I have several questions for the DIS vets. We are surprising our daughters(6 years old) with a trip Tuesday and I have just begun shopping, planning, etc. due to an unexpected and overwhelming battle with lice which began on june 12. LONG story (and a lot of $) but the time I thought I'd have to plan went to the lovely lice. So now I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Question #1- We are on the DDP and have all dinner reservations. We planned to use CS for lunch/breakfast and fill in snacks as needed. I definitely want water and juice (my husband has Type 1 diabetes) but then I'm not sure what else I should order? I went to garden grocer and i'm a little overwhelmed. We usually eat bagels and or cereal bars for breakfast and we snack on pretzels and things like that. But with the dining plan, should I order this stuff "just in case"? And milk, too?

Question #2- I am going to buy a carrying bag to bring into the parks today or tomorrow during my shopping extravaganza. Any recommendations on ones (sling, fanny, what brand) that I can get at the local mall and that I don't have to order.

Question #3- Shoes- besides crocs, any other recommendations on shoes that don't need a lot of breaking in?

I have million other questions, but that's all I can think of right now!

Thanks in advance!

You have the biggest issues taken care of (housing/ food). Just relax. You should have snack/ juice on hand just in case with the diabetes.

I like a backpack if I am going to carry a bag and prefer good ol' tennis shoes. Where whatever shoes that you have that are comfortable.

Breathe!!!!!! You are about to go to the happiest place on earth!!!

I always like having snacks in the room, even with the dining plan and with your husband having diabetes I would definitely recommend having some stuff on hand just in case. We normally drive so I am no help when it comes to ordering food. We bring our own.

As for park bag, I love the Nike tear drop shaped sling bag, its medium sized and we all take turns carrying it.

Bring a well broken in pair of tennis you already own, you do not have time to break anything in. However, if you like flips both Teva's mushies and Nike's Celso I could wear directly out of the box with no problems and they both comfy.

Enjoy you vacation and just remember you are going to see MICKEY!!!

Relax! You can do it. Knowing the DH has diabetes I'd suggest you take some snacks to keep in the room and bring a few into the park. As you know, sometimes blood sugars can go a little wild, especially on vacation, so you'll want to keep a little juice box and some peanut butter crackers in your bag so you don't have to risk not being able to find something quickly if you need to.

We don't get food delivered when we do the dining plan. You can get 1/2 gallons juice and milk in the gift shop. Most gift shops have some food too like peanut butter, bread, lunch meats, etc. It is more expensive, but the delivery fee from the service for small orders may not be worth it. I try to free up some space in my suitcase for food like bagels, crackers, trail mix, nuts, etc. I use snack credits to buy whole fruit or fruit salads and keep them in the room for snacks.

For shoes, I like Teva sandals. I put body glide on my kids and my feet every morning and we haven't had any problems. I bring mole skin just in case someone gets a blister. I like the Teva mush flip flop but they do not have enough support for me to wear all day everyday.

Relax and have fun. You can get most anything you forget when you get there. (it may cost more, but you won't care.)

Just a suggestion about the lice. Take a jar of mayonnaise and a shower cap with you, just in case you missed any nits that will hatch while you are there.

Thanks for the info! I ended up ordering from GG b/c we'd need the juice and snacks for my husband's diabetes and we also ordered beer (which I will need by the time we get there!) I got water and some milk for the girls as well as some "healthier" breakfast stuff so we can pig out the rest of the day.

I am probably more overwhelmed than usual b/c we did not shop for summer clothes yet so I'm kind of doing both- shopping for summer and for the trip. And trying to stay in a budget which is quickly becoming shattered.

I will stick with my sneakers that are already broken in (really broken in) and I'll look for the Tevas and Nikes that were recommended, as well as the Nike bag recommended.

As far as the lice (I hate even writing the word), I broke down and paid a woman from a "lice removal" business to come and check us. I had been picking the girls hair after doing the RID (which basically did nothing as far as I'm concerned) for at least 1-2 hours a night each. I felt like I was at my breaking point though when I went to our usual hairdresser (I explained the situation) and she checked the girls who passed inspection but when she checked me she found eggs. I pretty much freaked since I had been checked by my school's nurse several times and bought the stupid Robi comb as well and this was 12 days after the girls were sent home with them. We had washed EVERYTHING daily, bagged everything, and revolved our lives around the dumb bugs and they still got me. I had debated calling her anyway for peace of mind (what was left of it) but once I found out I had them, I called her in tears and she came the next day. The girls didn't have anything so at least my hard work paid off but I did have some eggs. I bought the mousse made of natural products that she used and she taught me how to do the "brush check" which she wants me to do every day for 3 weeks. I'll bring it all with me of course and I am checking the girls every 2-3 days just to be on the safe side. I did buy mayo and the shower cap before I called the lady so I may bring it with me as well. I went back to my hairdresser yesterday and she was able to cut my hair once she inspected it and she didn't see anything so I'm starting to relax a little, just a little.

Sorry for the rant...it's just that I am totally a planner and when unforeseen events mess that up, I tend to go overboard.

Thanks again!

Megan

megan! good luck with everything .. u sound like u are at your beaking point and totally need and deserve this vacation (and beer lol!) have a great trip and i know ur experience with garden grocer will be terrific! ive used them before and  love their service!
i would recommend a pair of merrell "siren lyric" sandals. they are terrific! as far as a bag goes, i would say that alot of people on here are fans of the bagallini (sp?) but i think you can only order that online. i have a lesportsac kasey bag that i use .. i bought it at macys. hope this is all of some help to you! have a terrific trip! say "hi" to mickey for me!

I would not bring salty foods at the parks and drink plenty of water not soda at the parks cause that will make you more thirsty

Relax! You will be fine. For the bag. One year I don't Know which but we but a sling bag. If anybody knows what im talking about please help. Its a disney on that says Walt disney world on the back and has the 4 iconicle park things. Like the Tree of Life, Soccerrer's hat, The EPCOT ball, and the castle. Please help me if you know. I think im lossing it.:headache:

I bought the Nike celso sandals (on sale-yeah!) and they seem very comfortable. I think we are going to just bring a backpack instead of running around trying to find another bag. I was able to get some shorts and t-shirts yesterday so I feel better that I won't have to wear the one pair of shorts that I owned for 8 days straight. I bought the same t-shirt in 4 colors, that's how desperate I was! I had been to so many stores and could not find anything casual in my size and I found the $5 tshirts in Old Navy about 5 minutes before closing. They actually were turning off the lights so I just grabbed 4 of them and paid. I won't be making any fashion statements but I will be fully clothed!
Thanks again for all of your replies! I feel 1000x better since finding some clothes, getting a haircut and eyebrows done and I will even find sometime tonight to do nails and maybe even some tanning lotion since I'm white as a ghost.
We made a power point slideshow to surprise the girls with and I can barely contain my excitement about tomorrow. In less than 24 hours, will hopefully be in the air on our way to the best place on earth!
