Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

Marla, have a wonderful visit with your daughter. Please be sure to let us know how her new assignment goes.

Do visit property control - you can find some wonderful deals there! CMs can take in 3 guests to PC. No kids though.

I was waiting for you to get home to see how everything turned out. I was away, but just finished reading the whole saga! It reminds me of a college dorm, but with the added pressure of working and dealing with other "real life" things like the apartment & cooking. As much as I wish I'd had the opportunity to do the college program, I'm not sure I would have been up to the pressure.

Anyway, I'm glad things are looking better for your daughter. I hope that her new assignement, and your visit to FL cheer her up!! Please keep us posted on her progress. :)

Marla, I'm so glad things are better! Miriam will love Chef Mickey's -- I had a couple of friends who worked there last spring on their CPs and had a blast. The management there is supposed to be great.

Have fun down there! I'll be down just after you leave -- I get down on the 6th, and I'm going to spend some time in Orlando, and then I move into my apartment on July 11th.

Well, here I am writing, need to be at the airport in 4 hours, not packed, but what else is new! Spoke to DD tonight and she really sounded good. She was getting trained at Chef Mickey's tonight, but seemed happy to be there. That is all I wanted to hear! I am hopeful that things are looking up! I know that she is excited about seeing us, as we are, her. I promise to keep everyone posted. Hmmmm , must bring extra case. How can I break the news to my DH. He is already complaining that the bags are heavy....after all, DS and I have our pin bags with us, and that is no light stuff! Thanks everyone for everything and I'll keep in touch. If I can't get to a computer,I will have to wait until we get home.... we'll be back on July 3. Love ya! Marla

Just spoke to DS and he is exhausted. He had training on Sunday which included a walking tour of SAB. Yesterday and today he had 10 hour training days. Half in the classroom and half in the pool at Mickey's Retreat. He says he has Thurs and Friday off and works Sat and Sunday for first on site training.

He had to call last night and tell us he was waiting in line for Fantasmic. He is driving his DM crazy! She said when we landed on Sunday that it was just not fair that she was at home an he was there!!! LOL!

His only bummer so far is he cannot get the internet to connect at the Commons. He says it is a dialing problem, but it has been a week since he has been online! Wow and he has not died???!!! that is a miracle.

Thanks for the interest in how he is doing!

Thanks for the update on your son. Glad to hear your son is doing well. I swear when my daughter was in the CP she called just to torture me with what she was doing in WDW. :) It was nice though getting to hear the sounds of WDW through the phone. I listened to the MK 3:00 parade many times that way.

Having a child in the CP is a wonderful excuse to take a trip to see him. :) :)

I remember training to be a lifeguard.... and turning red from the strong florida sun because my sun block washed off at the pool.... Hope he is having fun, even with alllll the rain

Thanks for the update on your son. Glad to hear that he is already torturing his mother by calling from WDW locations. My daughter did that to me all the time. I agree with safetymom, having a child in the WDWCP gives one a great excuse to visit WDW. I went down every month! :)

My daughter had dial-up connection problems in Vista. Why her roommate could get online using the same ISP and my daughter had all sorts of problems is beyond me. I had no problem using her laptop from a WDW resort room. She lasted the semester using the lab computers and curtailing her online activity.

Says he is now certified to save people. He thought training went well. His NF that he is working with thought it was stressfull. DS has been a YMCA counselor for 4-5 yrs so had been well trained in first aid and CPR.

He has next two days off and has to be at work at 7:00am sat at SAB. Several days of training onsite. I know the hour is killing him. This is a 2 am on the internet kid for the past 6 weeks.

He still has not gotten on the internet yet. He said went to the computer center today but all 8 computers full. He is going to try to check out availablity of cable modems tommorrow. He knows they were usable at Chatham. I checked earhtlink today and they say they have them at use at The Commons.

He says he and his roommate are passing in the night! Has not seem him awake since Monday night!!!

His next paycheck is the one they take two weeks rent out. OUCH! But such is the real world!

Thanks again for the interest in how he is doing!

Congratulations on your son passing his tests. Sorry to hear he is still having computer problems. I am sure he will find lots of ways to enjoy his days off. :)

Just spoke to DS and he has completed his first day on the job. He had to be there at 7:00am. He thought the day flew by.

He almost had to jump in for a save today. A 5yr old boy did not get out of the way of the slide fast enough and paniced. He was just ready to jump in when another lifeguard did. I asked if the parents appreciated it and he said they were no where around!!!
Can you believe it???

He says he thinks he is really going to like it. They rotate positions every thirty minutes so he cannot get bored!

He has ordered a cable modem that will be installed next week. So he will then be happy again. Earthlink running a special for first six months without a contract!!!

He is going to Fantasmic tonight! He is making his mom so jealous!

I am glad to hear that his first day went well and fast! I am sure he will "torment" :) you many more times while he is in the program.

Marla, you home yet? We are waiting to hear how things are going for your daughter with her transfer and all. Hope you had a great trip.

Bet she is still there! Seemed strange to come home the day before the 4th. Very UN Disney! LOL

Just talked to DS today. He was lucky enough to end up in the Commons in a 1-bedroom. The previous occupants were smokers and my son and his roommate's clothes, etc. started to smell like smoke. Since son moved in they have had an ionizer in the apartment, provided by the Mgmt there, and it helped, but not enough. So, they are going to come in and shampoo the carpets and replace the furniture. I was very surprised and impressed to hear that. So far, we have been very impressed with the people in the Mgmt office at the Commons.

That is very interesting Rwethereyet, my son has had a very similar experience. Glad to hear that. Maybe they can meet sometime!!! LOL

Just getting a chance to check my computer and wanted to atleast say Hi to everyone. Yes, as UnDisney as it may sound, we really did get home late last night...... pre 4th of July. (Had to work this around the time that DH could get away.) If I would have had my way, I'd still be there..... all summer. (Being a teacher, I am off all summer, right?) Anyway.... we spent alot of time with DD and she is much happier with her new position. She sometimes is seating guests, and has also been trained to take the money for the photographs that are ordered. She wanted us to eat at Chef Mickey's on one of her night's off...... to celebrate our 25th Anniversary, but forgive me for saying, we got back too late from Universal. She really is much happier, though.

The roommate situation has not changed, unfortunately. She now prefers to keep to herself rather than spend time in the general area in the apartment where someone might give her a hard time. We took her out and bought her a television so she could have it in her room.(remember owner of tv will turn tv off if daughter is watching it!) The picture is really bad, though, as it must be hooked up to cable. Husband bought splitter, cord, etc, for connectiing to tv in room, but DD is afraid to touch the tv of the roommate, and since they are leaving in August, she says that she will just wait. (I guess she can connect to the cable, but both tvs would need to got through what is called a splitter, which is no big deal unless you have a roommate that would go nuts if her tv is touched.) As far as chores....... remains the same. DD tries to do what she thinks needs to be done, and one roommate will tell her, "I did that yesterday, go and do the floors!" DD thinks that it needed to be done, though. This other roommate is the same one who told her that they don't have any appointed jobs, just do what you think needs to be done! It upsets her that she feels like she is the only one running the garbage and no one says anything to anyone else but her. I told her to just take care of what she thinks is right, and hopefully she can make this work better when the others leave and she gets new roommates. The other new roommate that came when DD came, is not being told to do anything and that bothers DD. She brought a friend with us when we all went to Universal, and that was nice, and it wasn't one of her roommates! While we were at DW, she stayed with us a couple nights...... not to be with us....... so that she could see Soap Net on our tv! HA!

Today, she called several times as she was running around getting new 4th of July pins for us!

We did have a wonderful time, and one of my favorite things was going to ........ you know where....... PC! Oh my gosh, that was a blast. No kidding, you need another bag! Got daughter to take us twice, it was so hot in that tent, and daughter didn't care for it, but I could go there daily! I asked my DH what he would offer if I didn't buy anything on the second visit........"Why even answer, as it isn't going to happen!" was his response. Nothing like going to a Disney rummage sale! I still can't figure out what people do with snow globes and figurines that are missing parts and pieces.

Hope everyone is having a great Fourth of July! (ps...DD no longer needs to where the wrist splint from her fall) I continue to be so impressed how she gets around with this bus system, etc.

Regards and best wishes to all, Marla

I'm so glad everything seems to be getting better for your daughter. Come August, it should be even better. :D
