Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

I am glad to see that the boards are up again.

Mirmatt, how is your daughter doing?

I'm sorry to hear that your DD is having a rough time. When I was working at All star Sports' food court when i first got there, i really didnt like it, a few of the managers i really did not like, the only thing that saved me was knowing that I would be leaving within two months for another job, and my fellow CPers. While working at ASSp ;) 95% of the time I would work the 4pm-12:30am shift. I really did not like it because I didnt get to play that much in the parks. I would get up around 12-12:30, sit around the appartment because I had to leave for work around 2, and then work all evening, get home around 2ish, and start all over again.

Thats what I loved about Blizzard beach, the park closes at 6ish, so the latest i ever worked was 7, and all but one of the food places we worked at in the park opened at 11am. So that ment after a long long day of work, i could always go see the night shows/prades at the parks after work.

as for my roomates, we all pretty much got along. The way i finally got out of the dishes problem was that everytime i used a dish or cup or what not, i used the dish soap we had at the sink, and clean it right then and there, and put it away ;)

For our TV, on our 2nd or 3rd night there, we all went to wal-mart and got a tv (it was a small one w/ a built in VCR around $200). We just left it in the common room. we never really fought over it. But two of my roomates left the program (one was termanated, the other just left), so at the end, one of my roomates extened, so he just bought the tv, and paid the other remaing roomates back what we paid for it since it was still as good as new (and since the other 2 left, we figured they forfited their payments :p )

for ur DD's work problem, just keep telling her to find people higher and higher up in the chain of command until she can be helped. just keep telling her to keep making the phone calls and talking to people. And tell her to go get a ride on mission space for me

As the year comes to a close, as a teacher, I say "Yeah!"

DD has had two days off, and in that time, she has spoken to three different people on top who said that they are going to see where there are openings for jobs, but it seems that she will have to stay in the area of resorts, food and beverage. They all seemed to feel that dd was in a bad situation and it needed to be corrected. In the meantime, although she gave her cell phone number to each, no one has gotten back to her and so she will go to her regular job as scheduled, tomorrow evening, and hope for the best. She thinks things have quieted down in her room with her roommates. (don't know if it is really better or if they are just staying clear of each other. The worst one, who said that she never wants to speak to my dd, she has not seen, thank goodness!) DD is getting around the parks and doing stuff that she wants to do and was going to a movie with some girls tonight. Although she sounded exhausted last night, from all her running around, I think that overall she sounds better. I think, though, that she is counting on her job being changed. Although she said that where she works is really nice(location.... nice restaurant), she said that if she had to fill ketchup containers with a nicer environment, she would take it! It's all about how she has been treated! I really hope that this is corrected. I look forward to hearing more joy and excitement in her voice. Thanks everyone for all the emails and advise. You have no idea how much it has really helped. I have sent dd all the notes and she has followed the advice of our friends. Will keep you posted on (hopefully) improvements. Marla

Marla, glad to hear the update. Tell your daughter not to hold her breath waiting for someone to call her back. My daughter never got the call backs. She had to call them back up to ask what was going on. They also would try the give it a week or two and see how it goes and then maybe we can do something.

Glad to hear she is taking advantage of being in WDW. Please keep us updated and I hope it all calms down so you and your daughter can enjoy the CP experience.

Thanks for the update. I'm with Safetymom; your daughter should keep calling. I hope everything works out for her.

I am rivited to this thread. My daughter begins the college program on Aug. 20th. I find all this information so informative. Marla, I'm so sorry to hear of the bad experiences you DD has been going through. I know my DD and other new CP will benefit from your posts. I wish your DD the best of luck and hope things will turn around soon for her. Thank you for keeping us informed.

DS checked in on 18th and we all are still here and kicking. I guess my main response is I do believe in Pixie Dust. Will give all the details later tonight. We are taking a group of the kids to Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. All have never seen it!

Marla I understand your concerns. We have had ours the past few days but as I said IBELIEVE, I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE in Pixie dust.

Hope things are going better in the past few days for DD.

DD notified us today that she has been told that she will start working at Chef Mickeys on Sunday. (She was really happy about this.) Her manager told her that she was aware of her going to Chef Mickeys and told her that if things don't work out, she is welcome to come back! (I was shocked to hear this. ) Sooooo, she actually has been sounding better. I am very proud of her the way that she pursued all of the people who could possibly help her and it actually came through. Those who she spoke with..... head of this or that...... told her that they were impressed with how she presented herself, etc. Today we were talking repeatedly as she was learning to do her laundry for the first time. Funny to work with her and the process over the phone. New experiences! It was pretty funny when she put in her money into the machine and couldn't figure out why the top wouldn't open so she could put in her clothes...... only to find out that someone was already washing clothes in that machine and that was why it didn't open! Roommates seem to be better. There is one, however, who when she sees DD watching the tv, she will turn it off. (doesn't want dd watching her set..... although it is in common area and dd will only watch what is on and won't touch it..) When we get to Disney, we will be buying DD her own set to keep in her room, phew....... (Other girls claim that this girl gets into it with all of them, but still it is rough.) Wrist was seen by doctor and he wants her to keep splint on for another week and not to lift things, still, but it is doing fine. So, overall, I am hopeful that with this change in her job, that things will go much better. PLEASE!!! We will be in Orlando on Monday and will be there for 10 days..... till the 3rd of July. Will keep you posted. Again, thanks for the support. (PS.... DD has been putting up with her aunt calling and telling her that she should contact everyone who she spoke to and tell them that she has changed her mind about changing her job. She feels that DD is getting herself known by the big people, which isn't good, and should just deal with the job the way it is since it is only for seven months. I disagreed, of course, as no one should have to deal with the kind of stuff DD had to..... ) Thanks again, everyone. Marla

Mirmatt, I am glad to hear that everything is starting to work out. It really is a wonderful program.

I enjoyed those phone calls from my daughter when she went grocery shopping for the ingredients for meals that I had made, or walking her through something she took for granted back home.

Yes Dear, glad to hear you have discovered some of the CP pixie dust. :) Looking forward to your stories.

Boy, do I ever believe in Pixie dust..... so does the whole family. As with dust, it can get in your eyes and affect everything that you are doing, and boy, have we had our fill of it in our eyes....and everywhere else. I am so looking forward to hearing the happy tones in DD's voice again. I do believe... I do believe...

By the way..... one of her favorite things in the job that she is in now, is when she selects a child and helps them to create the magic of turning on the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. They actually pull a switch to make them believe that they have done this. (Sometimes the manager picks who does it in order to make up to guests!) The lights are turned off in the restaurant so that everyone can see the fireworks. Last night, a little girl came back to DD afterwards, and gave her a special picture that she drew, to thank her for letting her do this! (Tears, anyone?) Marla

My daughter got to meet many wonderful people when she was a Rescue Ranger at Epcot. She would get the kids to blow out the torchs around the lake for Illuminations. I got to watch her do this several times and it got me crying. Even with the problems that can happen WDW is still a magical place.

When she would be standing there she would talk with a lot of the guests. She still gets email from them and they are all around the world. She got to meet someone that flew Air Force One. She got his business card.

Hopefully your daughter will get to see more of the magic now. I hope you plan on a trip or two with her in the program. We are trying to schedule a trip back down. Daughter and I both miss WDW. But hopefully we will be moving down there shortly so I can really get my Disney fix.

:bounce: :D I'm so happy to hear your DD is doing much better...
(PS.... DD has been putting up with her aunt calling and telling her that she should contact everyone who she spoke to and tell them that she has changed her mind about changing her job. She feels that DD is getting herself known by the big people, which isn't good, and should just deal with the job the way it is since it is only for seven months.

ehh.. I disagree too.... One of the most imporant things you do on ur CP is make CONNECTIONS with lots of people... if you get to know them, and still talk with them, maybe someday they can help you out later in life (because we all know in some places, its who u know, not what you know)

thanks for keeping us updated :D  :jester:

Marla glad to hear your DD is doing better! Wish her luck on her new job for me!!

We are leaving Sunday.. Sorry we will miss you.

Let me see if I can explain the last few days.

DS and I left Tues. at 6:00 am to start our trek to the land of the Mouse. We met a fantastic young lady from Greenville, SC, who is also doing the college program. DS had met her online and she did not want to make the drive by herself. We met just south of 26 and I95. We have mobile radios so we could talk on the way down. Got to All Star around 4 pm. DW was flying in, so we got everyone checked in. DS had other friends he had met online that were already here. Four of us had dinner at Rainforest in DTD. I will call Ashely, the new friend NF for short. We then walked around DTD and then met up with other kids. ACtually got to go to Vista Way and see an apt that night. Wow security is tight!!!

Next morning let DS and NF go check in on their own. They would call when they needed a hand. They got there at 8am. Said sign in started early and they were done with checkin and the nurse by a little after 9!! DS met a guy who they had talked about rooming together online. They decided to try it. Wonders on wonders they were put not in Vista but in the Commons which is where the international students and the advanced interns usually stay. They were also in the same building as NF. THis is where it gets complicated so I will try to be brief.

Went to apt. Two of the other 6 international students were there. The place was a wreck. Dirty walls, broken furniture and hungover smoking residents. Smoking not allowed in the rooms. We went back to checkin and asked for help. first option was to split up DS and roomate to one bedrooms with other internationals or wait for later in the day to see what happened. New roomate did not want to go into a one bedroom because rent higher. Everyone understood. They decided to take pot luck later. We had actually moved all their stuff in original apt. so we had to reload it in the cars. FUN FUN. At lunch we spoke to DS and said if he did not mind splitting up, that he should consider that. He told new roommate, that he thought he would do that because it would be better for him. Roommate understood. We went back to check in and of course the rooms were gone! DS was told he could be put in temp room until something else was available. Interestingly enough, we were told that since our comment that the trashed apts was being vacated. Residents were possibly going to be sent home because of violations. At least they were moved out of the apt. They were given the option of moving back in with new roommates when cleaned! WE were standing there and the wonderful man who had been helping us said he might have a one bedroom for theim by the end of the day at the Commons. At that point new roommate said extra rent was not bad. THey all went to first meeting at 3 and when over we went back to checkin and they got the apt. IT is one builiding back from NF's apt and it is wonderfull. It is very spacious and has washer dryers in the apt. each has own closet and apt in very good condition.

We also had met NFs other roommates Several of them and their moms helped us move back in! I took them all to dinner at Steak and Shake. DS and NF are to be lifeguards. THey has swim test at 8am on THurs. They also were to find out where to work later that morning. Well they both passed and DS called and said he wanted to see our faces when we told him where they will work. DS is a Disney veteran and knew where he wanted to work. Well low and behold they both got assigned to Stormalong Bay at the Yachet and Beach Club. They were extatic! NF had not seen it yet so DW and I took them and roommate to see the pool. Oh by the way it has been raining almost the whole time. Roommate and NF were amazed at the pool. We had lunch at Beaches and Cream.

Since then we have been to superwalmart on 192 and Super Target at Millenia. Both equally interesting experiences. There is a BJ's Warehouse where Super Target is. Gas is about 10-12 cents a gallon cheaper then around Disney. DS has a BJ's and Sam's card. (Looks Like Sams on 192 is opening gas pumps.

The whole group had Traditions this morning. It is interesting to see the dynamics of such diverse young people from accross the country. One roomate is having her hair dyed for the second time to be within guidelines. One young lady was cautioned about the length of her dress. DS and roommate wore ties and were complimented on doing so!

A group went to property control and the bottom fell out of the weather. We found a Herman Miller computer chair for $10. A real steal.

Dinner tonight was a blast. NF's Bday is tomorrow. DW did a goody bag for each of them. for her birthday NF had to ride horse around restaurant and sing to herself. When she did not sing loud enough; one of the other kids had to go to the lobby with the horse and sing to her. A real hoot.

DS and NF have class on Sunday and are in the pool training until Thursday. They have tomorrow off. DW and I have not seen a park yet. Will try to go somewhere on Sat if the rain slows down.

Cannot express the belief again in pixie dust, when reading about other experiences. how lucky DS is.

As the Disney rep told them on Saturday, there will be many rollercoaster days. SO True SO True.

Its good to hear things are looking a bit better. I had great times on both my programs. Roommates can be a tricky issue but you always find friends in other apartments you can spend time with. The restaurant industry in general is a tough place to be, it is fast paced and high strung. California Grill as one of the premier restaurants is even more this way. Chef Mickeys I think will be a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Mirmatt, I am glad to hear that your daughter is getting a new assignment. I hope that one works out much better for her.

YesDear, I love hearing about CP'ers experiences. Keep us updated.

Spoke to DD tonight, briefly.(her phone battery was dying) She really, already, sounds better. Said that she said goodbye to the people at her present job, and actually said that there are some things she will miss. (Like selecting a child to start the fireworks) Tomorrow she starts at her new job. Gosh, I sure hope things are good, as she is really looking forward to it. We are packing and will be leaving for Orlando early Monday morning. Great news for you, YesDear. Yes, I have got to get to Property Control. Is it true that only one person can go in with a cast member? Anyway, thanks everyone for the support and I will write when I hear how her first day at the new job went. Marla

Marla, have a great time on your trip. I look forward to hearing how your trip went. Have a great time at property control. You will love it. Be sure to pack an empty suitcase.
