Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

Marla, great to hear that things are turning around for your daughter. I know you were so relieved to see her for yourself after all those unsettling phone calls.

Does she know when in August her roommates leave? I am sure it cannot be soon enough.

When is your next trip down to see her?

Glad you are home safe and sound.

Very glad to hear about DD doing better. Really sorry you could not be there today. After speaking with DS, I wish we could be there as well.

He got his first full weeks paycheck. Unfortunately it was the one with two weeks rent taken out! I think reality has set in. He has been fussed at by a guest already. Helped a small boy that then said his parents were to the right. Grandma, not parents was to the left not paying attention. She fussed at him for not sending the kid to her, even though she was not there!!! Fortunatly he has spent 5 yrs as a Y counselor so he has experience with parents.

He said he finally got online last night with a dial-up. I think he was in heaven. Still having the cable modem installed next week! GEEK!!!

Sorry to hear about the roommate problems. I guess we should be very grateful ds ended up in a one bedroom apt. with only one roommate. He says they are like ships that pass. One sleeps while the other works. Understand his roommate not happy with work situation as well. He is going to talk to his co-ordinator about it. It does seem that Disney is trying to work out problems.

DS has three other lifeguards near him that work at SAB. It appears the college kids get the afternoon/ nightshift because the older ones do not want to work nights. HE and the others are sharing driving duties. He and another lifeguard have cars.

It appears DW cannot stand being away from baby. She booked us flights for the weekend of 7/18. Not sure if she wants to see DS or Mickey or both!!!

So what were your treasures from PC. We found DS a Herman Miller office chair for his computer desk for $10. DW got a GF bathrobe for $12. It had a "stain" on it that came out in the wash. While you have to dig and it is hit or miss you can get some real bargins. Is the building about ready?

Glad you are home safe and sound. Have a great 4th. If we need to check on DD while down there let us know.

I loved reading this thread and hearing all about the CPers!! :) I did CP in spring of 1999. It had it's stinky moments (my roommates were pretty miserable) but overall it was such a great time! I am glad to hear all your kids are adjusting and starting to enjoy it!! If any of them need to talk of vent or need advice on CP, I am more than happy to talk about it! They can PM or email ZPT1022@aol.com. Mirmatt, I am glad your daughter is feeling better as far as her wrist is concerned- I got hurt twice while on CP, and the medical care there was good. Tell your kids to stay away from CentraCare if possible though, if they need emergency treatment Celebration Health is a far superior option, speaking from personal experience. If anyone needs a giggle though, one of my injuries was a broken middle finger. I had to wear a splint that made it stick straight up. Let me tell you, the most non-English speaking tourists all know what that means! I have never been so harassed! And all the CP guys wanted to buy the splint from me! LOL!! :p I hope all the CPers are doing well, what a great experience! :):):)

I don't understand......

Are you saying that one's middle finger in a singularly raised postion is the international driving finger?????

I never knew that!

I always knew that the Disney College Program was a learing experience!

LOL.

Seriously though, DW and I said when we came back from taking DS a few weeks ago that you could quickly tell the young people that "got it"! The College Program is not about making money. It is about a wonderful life experience in a magical place. Even Magical places have challenges. DS and I am sure Marla's DD will come away with memories, and experiences that will make them far better people for having had these opportunities, good and not so good!

I applaud them for doing it, and I am jealous I cannot.

The College Program is not about making money.

Ha ha- that's for sure! I called home a few times- Mom, can you just put $25 on my WalMart giftcard so I can buy groceries? LOL! It was a wonderful experience, and I have memories that I will treasure for a lifetime. It is also a wonderful resume booster. Every place I have worked since then, I go to an interview and they always want to talk about WDWCP! :) I would love to be able to go back and do another one, but now I am married and a mommy, so not until we move to Celebration :) There were older students down there when I did my college program, there were actually two ladies in their fifties. The one I met was very nice! So apparently you can go at any age! Maybe there is a WDWCP in your future, YesDear? ;)

I got many calls from my daughter that went, Hi Mom. How you doing? I am standing here in Wal-Mart and I wanted to stock up on groceries. Can you put some money in my debit card acct?

My daughter was lucky enough to do the CP twice. Every where she goes now everyone asks her how it was to work for Disney.

When she got her first paycheck when she got back home she was thrilled to see how much more she had in her paycheck. That said she misses WDW and her job. So we are working frantically to get the house ready to sell.

Our motto is What have you done today to get closer to Florida. I had thought about enrolling in school down there so I could participate in the CP program. :) Who knows what will happen when I move down there.

I may apply, but for some reason I do not think there is an internship for President of WDW! LOL

LOL Yesdear! I would vote for you! Then you could start a CP for all the adults! I wonder if Disney realizes that there is such an adult interest in the CP. I know if I could go back again I would appreciate it a lot more than I did at 18. Five years of life experience later, I realize that I never had it so good!!!! I'd love to go back! :)

I hear ya! It's 11 years later for me... still one of the best decisions I ever made. They need a Vista Way for retirees. I'll have to wait that long before I can afford to make $6 an hour again. :(

Daughter has been sounding better once she decided that she was going to spend as little time as possible in her apartment. Roommate is going around slamming doors but daughter doesn't know why and is getting cold treatment. She said that she just won't hang around apartment much and that will be better. Unfortunately, when she gets to the apartment after work.....(12:30 am ish), she never knows whether she is walking into a battle zone. She seems to really like her job, though, and that is a big improvement. I keep her running during the day looking for the new pins that come out. Oh the expense of being a pin collector. (daughter and son like it also!)

I am still dreaming about Property Control. Hey, YesDear, sweating under that tent, digging through junk, I still loved it! Son bought about 10 different hats that were 3.00 each. They are the big hats that normally go for 20-25.00 dollars. I bought a couple photo albums, bracelets, sports balls, keychains, and other asst. stuff. Some of the items are full price still in the park. For instance...... I didn't want it, but they have a 30th Anniv. Trading Card set that comes in a tin. It is still selling in the parks for 30.00....... it is 14.99 at the Character Warehouse, ........ but at PC it is 7.49! I also have a blast going to Character Warehouse, and Character Corner. I could just spend days doing that....... which we did! Why I continue to buy all this stuff, I just don't get! I bought a pair of Disney Gym Shoes at Downtown Disney for 24.00, and then the exact size, by chance was in the PC (brand new) for 75percent off. So now I have two pairs! At PC, I saw that they even had the carts that the cleaning staff carry their towels at the hotels in....... Hmmmmm, how can I get one of those babies home?

Talk to you guys later, Marla

Marla, glad to hear that things have calmed down with your daughter. My daughter used to avoid her apt. also because of the roommates. Hopefully that will improve.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed PC. I liked the resort trash cans when we were there. I could furnish my house PC style. :)

Welcome back.

Marla:

Great to hear at least the work part of DD is much better. DS's roommate not happy where he is. I keep telling DS to tell him to talk to his co-ordinator.

DW saw DS online this morning IM and he was like a kid in a candy store. His cable modem was delivered this morning at 10. He is back in geek heaven.

He has the day off today, and instead of going out last night, he had a group come to the apt. and they cooked dinner. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall!! My baby IS growing up. Wonder who did the dishes.

I understand you pending addiction to PC. Did they still have those super large wicker chairs from the porch of the Boardwalk there. They were selling for $75. You get there and wonder if the plane will let you attach a uhaul on the back! LOL

We have seen all kinds of stuff there. My first trip there, I was pretty dissapointed, convinced it was all junk! Then I looked down and saw a Tilley hat in my size that someone had lost. They sell for around 65-70 in the store. I got it for $1. I then started looking closer.

DW has really gotten some deals on the posters.

If your DD is out scoping out pins for you, do not forget to send her to company D to get you the castmember only pins!! Hope you did not forget about those. I swear pins are an addiction to DW, bless her pretty little head.

I am sure DW will use our upcoming weekend to hit them all. Thanks for the update. Will do the same!

So glad DS is in a one-bedroom with just one roommate.

Marla, August will be here faster than your daughter can imagine. Things will improve dramatically for her then.

mirmatt, so glad you enjoyed yourself at PC. And it seems everything is getting better for your daughter. Just a few weeks more and the apartment issue should be resolved too.

Well, DS's roommate who was dissatisfied with his role is going to be reassigned from QSFB to full service at MGM. He is hoping that means Prime Time Cafe. He is a theater major, so that would be great for him and I think he would fit in very well there. Hope all works out, that will alleviate some concern about him deciding to go home and DS getting a new roomie after everything had worked out so well with their 1-bedroom deal, etc.

Looking forward to this weekend when we head down for a quick visit. Miss my son and anxious to hit property control again.

RweTHEREyet, have a great trip. Enjoy property control!!! Look forward to hearing how you son is doing when you return.

DS called yesterday and said someone hit his car in the rear while pulling out onto 535 from LLB yesterday as he went to work. DS indicated there was already a wreck there. DS said it would have been unsafe to stop and the person left. He got the license tag and decsription of the car. Called Disney security and Orange County Sheriff. Sheriff said nothing to investigate since they both left the scene. I think it is hit and run, but also know he should have stopped regardless. I am not second guessing him at all since I was not there.

He has a 91 chev blazer that has the spare on a fold out rack at the rear. Says the spare pushed into the rear. Did not break the window but he cannot latch the glass.

Thank goodness everyone ok!

Also we are going down for the weekend. I have asked him to take some picutres and email then to me today!

I am an insurance agent and spoke to friends in the business in Orlando before he went. They confirmed that people drive like idiots and that about 40% of them do so without insurance. I know how to proceed it he were home, but will do some reseach on how to proceed in Orlando.

As I said earlier, these kids will learn alot !!!

OUCH!

Sorry to hear about your son's car but glad he is OK. It's a shame the driver didn't stop.

I'm sorry to hear of your son's accident. I hope it all works out for him.
