I can't believe it...... I just got home and Miriam is there!! Well, I survived it. That is all I can think about, the fact that all the stress and worry, and here I am knowing that my daughter is there.
It rained hard the day that we arrived.(alot of fun schlepping the luggage around) Got to the pavilion at Vista Way at about 1:30. After dd filled out assorted forms, she was in a little line and then was asked about rooming. She still wanted to be in a room with 5 others....... hoping to make more friends. I was alittle concerned when they told her that 4 of her roommates would be girls who are coming from Chatham and would be leaving in August, and one would be coming in new, like dd. More Mother's worry and stress than anything else, as dd didn't seem to be concerned. (By the way, the roommate was not standing in line with her or anywhere around, as previously posted that you room with kids in line with you.) Anyway, she was told that since she needed to get an pic taken and go see a nurse, she would attend a meeting the next day rather than the day she arrived. She went to the various locations at Vista that she needed to go to, and then we went to look for her apartment. By the way, the gave a booklet that told her about her meeting times. Oh my gosh........ she is on the second floor of her building, and carrying the cases up, what a pain! Girls came to the door and were quite welcoming. They pointed out the available room, and it was a room that had its own bathroom. In the apartment, 4 girls share one bathroom and 2 share the other. Helped her unpack, set up bed, etc., Rooms are really nice, although her roommates thought that compared to what they had at Chatham, they are slumming! Offered to take dd and others to
Walmart to shop. One roommate came with and then I took them out to dinner. (Love the Ponderosa near the Walmart)
The rest is history....... dd had to attend various meetings and started following the bus schedules. Met me at Epcot one night, and MK another.
Her job is........(drumroll please.....) being a hostess/seater at the California Grill in the Contemporary Hotel! She is happy, although her schedule is alittle messed up. Info. was given to her regarding taking training or working on certain times and days, but when she went, things were changed without her knowledge. She is getting things fixed, though. The first day, since she had not gotten the training for hostessing, they had her helping in the kitchen........ "Mom, I was peeling quail eggs and fava beans all afternoon!" (She never learned that at home!! No kidding!? She was hoping to spend alittle time with me today before I left, but instead had to be at a class.
She has found her way to the workout room and the computer lab. Never got to the place that everyone said gets all the over runs and lost items. Plan on doing it when we return.
Funny thing.... she is going with some kids to Epcot tomorrow. She was tryiing to get them to leave early, as she knows that it is the only way to avoid lines. They laughed and claimed that they would go around 11. Told her that they are now cast and not tourists, so........ maybe fellow cast will let them on. I told dd that she should go with the flow, and she will have so many more times that she can go there.
By the way..... oh my gosh, the security at the complex is amazing. What you must do to go in, even just picking up kid.... (make sure that your kid signs you in at the gate, or you can't get in, unless she meets at the security booth.
Nice amount of storage in the apartment for clothing, etc.
Oh yeah, dd stressed out when her black nice shoes were backless and it was too late to pick up a plain pair of pumps. They were told that sometimes they send kids home based on what they are wearing. She was told to have a polo style shirt and khakies. Yea, right. She was so worried that she would be sent out. Nobody said anything to her, and she has been fitted for her outfit. I will now be happy to put myself on the list of people who can be helpful, not just asking questions, but offering advise. PS..DON'T FORGET A PONCHO FOR THE RAIN.
