We are in our 40s and we moved our family from the Midwest to SE Florida last year. We did it not to work at Disney, but to enjoy the warmer weather, be closer to the beach and also be closer to WDW. For us the realization came that you only do have one life and it is what you make of it. I hate to be cold and no longer wanted to live where I would have to drive on ice to get to work. When we made the decision to move, I looked for a transfer with my job and it took about 5 months until one was available and about 8 months from the decision to move. Then even after moving, it took 7 months to sell our house so we were carrying the costs of two homes during that time. The first year was very stressful but definitely worth it. We are 15 minutes from beach and about 2 hours away from Orlando, our weekends usually include one of those options with the beach being the more frequent choice. We have Disney APs this year and try to go at least one day a month with a few extended trips a year. Rather than renew though, we will get APs for Universal next year and throw in a few small WDW trips with Fl. Resident passes. We are planning to alternate every year between the two. The cost of living here is affordable, there are no state income taxes and property taxes are much lower than where we moved from. So it may be a mid life crisis but we did make a major life change and are really happy we did it, it just took some planning and some stressful transition time.
Good luck on your journey
