We had booked our trip before the Leap Day announcement and had scheduled to be at MK on the 29th. Crowd calendars were predicting the
29th as a 2 before the announcement. Just trying to decide if we should just stick with MK or re-schedule to another park. I'm travelling with DD (9), so staying up late isn't an option anyways.

I can safely say that there will be MANY more guests on Feb. 29, 2012 than on Feb. 29 of last year.

;)

I'm wondering just how many "extra" people this event will pull.

It seems to me that the audience is fairly limited since it falls on a Wednesday, which means that it appeals to local's and those who are on a longer vacation (most likely already booked).

I'm sure it will be more than it would have been without the promotion. But I doubt it will be crazy packed. It's just too hard for most folks to put together a WDW trip in less than 2 months. My guess is that DLR will be far busier because of the legions of AP holders within driving distance.

I'm sure it won't be anything like the crowds on the 40th anniversary, but having read how they dealt (or didn't deal) with the crowds on that day, I wouldn't want to take the chance.

I'm a Floridian and was planning to come down for the week including Feb. 29th, but this announcement changed my mind. We have changed to the first week of March. I don't know how the 24 hour opening will affect crowds, it's a real wild-card situation to my mind. If we'd kept our original schedule, I wouldn't go to MK on the 29th for the same reason to which you allude. My dd (7) can't handle a late night, and I think crowds will be up for the entire day.

The up side to this is that we will get to catch the first two days of the Flower & Garden Festival.

Yeah, it might bump up previous crowd predictions by a few points, but if it was a 2 before, it still won't be bad. This idea has limited appeal for most, and those who it does appeal to would be hard-pressed to make it work because it is mid-week and short notice.

It's hard to know how big this will get. I' know I'm precluded from going because it's a Wednesday and I already have other travel plans, so extra time off work isn't in the cards. One day would have worked but I'd need two or three. There are probably many in that situation. Even locals would probably want to take off at least a day from work (or school).

you never know that could be a really fun thing to do with your 9 year old....if i had a 9 year old i would go for a few late hours...but i guess i am "THAT" mom! LOL

DS was 7 months last year and we were out til 1 am cause he just slept in the sling. and DD who was 3 was so great for the whole thing...she is a night owl though

I am with you. We already had plans to go on the 29th. I was psyched it was only a 2. I am a little worried. But we still plan to go on that day. If we get to Disney and it seems to be really crowded, we may then decide to pick another park. But it does seem as if most people who are taking advantage of the 24 hours plan to go late at night. We will be going at regular times.

I plan to go for ALL TWENTY-FOUR HOURS!

Seriously.
