Sunday 21 February 2010 - Day Four
Eric woke up about 3.45 am and came in with us until 7 am. Me and Eric got up and had some breakfast - froot loops for me and cornflakes, yogurt and an orange for Eric. We woke Andy up at 8.25 am with some cornflakes and Eric had a twinkie! Very interesting holiday diet our little man had.
We left the villa at 9.50 am and headed over to Animal Kingdom. On the way into the park we had our picture taken with Mickey Mouse. Seems very fitting that our first character pic was with Mickey who Eric adores, and calls "Mick".
It was shaping up to be a warm day so we got Eric changed into a t-shirt and walked him round for a bit until he fell asleep. The early mornings were meaning he was often ready for a sleep by the time we got into the parks.
I phoned my mum and then we had a walk round the Pagani Exploration Trail. We saw a baby gorilla who had only been born two days previously.
Eric woke up just as we got to the end of the trail so we got a FP for Kilimanjaro Safari then went to get some lunch at Yak and Yeti. Me and Andy shared a Kung Pao beef which was very nice but there was very little beef to be found in it, and we got Eric a chicken fried rice which he ate about half of and we finished off. After lunch Eric spent some time playing on the drums which he loved - it was probably his favourite thing at AK!
It was then time to use our fastpass so we headed off on our safari ride. Eric had a great time spotting all the animals. I was a little worried that it would be too bumpy for him but he had a whale of a time.
We watched Festival of the Lion King next and sat in the elephant section. Eric liked looking at the elephant and Simba and he clapped along to all of the songs.
We took the opportunity to get some character pictures whilst we were in the area, posing with Goofy ("Goof"), Chip and Dale ("Chip") and Donald Duck ("Don"). We also met this rabbit, perhaps from Bambi? I'm sure one of you will know! Eric especially liked Chip and Dale who made a big fuss of him, which meant Eric made a beeline for them every time he saw them after that.
Me and Andy both had a Mickey cookie ice cream. Eric had a little bit of the ice cream but mostly just ate the cookie part. I picked up a FP for Dinosaur and then we took Eric to meet Pooh ("Poooooo"), Eeyore ("Or") and Tigger ("Tig"). Unfortunately "Pig" and "Bit" (Piglet and Rabbit) were not there! Eric was so excited to meet them and not scared in the slightest. I was concerned E might be frightened of the characters like I would have been when I was little (there is a He-Man incident that comes to mind!) but all his favourites he ran up to with his arms open.
We split off so that I could ride Dinosaur (my favourite ride in the World and the world!) and Andy took Eric on the TriceraTop Spin. I wouldn't have needed the FP for Dinosaur as there was no one in the queuing area and I walked straight in just as the pre-show was starting. I was thrilled not only to get in the front row but to be far right on the front row which I think is the best seat on the ride. Andy said Eric enjoyed his ride, rather them than me, I don't like those up and down rides.
We finished off our visit with a trip to the Boneyard so that Eric could go down the slide a few times. We left the park at 5.50 pm and walked back to the car as the tram was so busy. We drove over to the Pop Century for tea so that I could have my favourite nachos supreme. Andy had a chilli cheese hotdog and we got Eric a hotdog with grapes and apple sauce. He ate the grapes, some bread and some of Andy's fries. We had a look round the shop and then headed back to the villa, arriving at 7.45 pm. We watched the Disney channel until Eric's bedtime (about 8.30 pm) and after he'd gone to bed me and Andy had a cup of tea and baths.
We settled down with a couple of Bud lites and some buffalo and ranch Doritos and watched the end of Fred Claus. We went to bed about 11.45 pm.
It occurs to me that I never mentioned how old Eric is now when I started this report! He was 17 months old during the trip (and is 18 months old now!) Thought it might be of interest to those of you with children of similar ages wondering about age appropriate attractions.
