Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

Good job on finishing your 5 miles! That is such an icky feeling. That is about the only thing I dislike about running, I have had to struggle with what I can eat before a run, so that I don't end up feeling sick the whole time.
Good luck in your hockey games, I would definitely count that as X-training!

Back to back hockey games. You are a bear for punishment. Hope it was fun. That would be great exercise. Are you always a goalie? I used to get "squash butt" when I played squash or badminton. I would imagine goalies use the same muscles.
Hope you are feeling better! Good for you for doing your LR.

Wow Laurie!

A 5 mile run and 2 hockey games in one night? That is some serious exercise!:yay: Great job on getting all of that working out in!:thumbsup2

Hope you have a great day today!:goodvibes

Well, I have some training to report on, and I am so excited about my workout today!!! First of all, it was 50 degrees here today and absolutely beautiful out, so I couldn't wait to get out of work so I could go run!!! I finished 3.5 miles in 33:11 min. with an average pace of 9:26!!! That is my fastest time at this distance and my best pace outside in quite awhile...so I am very excited today!!!

My hockey games went great on monday night. My DBF says that it was the best he has seen me play in a long time. I used to always get tired when I played back to back games, but I wasn't that tired on monday night, I guess all this running is paying off for me in hockey as well! We ended up winning one game and losing the other, but it was a great time.

I ended up resting yesterday because I was so tired from the night before.

goldcupmom--skiing was awesome! I really wish I could get out again this season, but I don't see it happening in the next few weeks, and then it will be too warm, so I will probably have to wait until next year. Oh well!

Nicole--I will definetely watch what I eat before I run now, I totally hate that feeling!

Carole-Yes, I am always a goalie now. I used to skate as a forward, but I much prefer playing goalie. Right now I am on 3 teams, so I have been playing quite a bit, but the seasons are winding down this month so I am happy about that. My legs used to always be sore when I played, but lately I have had better endurance and they don't get sore at all!

Tracy--No way-I wish I could do all that in one day. My 5 miler was actually on saturday morning, and my games monday night. I just didn't have time to update my journal between the two. I don't think I could do all that just yet!

WTG! What awesome times! And congrats on your hockey games! One of the things I am really looking forward to is the increased endurance! Keep up the good work, and I am soooo jealous of your weather! We have snow again!

Thanks everyone!

Today, I just didn't have time to get a run in, just way too much going on! I had to teach all my regular classes today, plus an afterschool program, set up for our gymnastics unit which will start tomorrow, finish getting everything together for my presentation that I am giving at a conference tomorrow, and write up my sub plans for tomorrow! Yikes--that was a LONG day! Needless to say by the time I got home, there was no way I was going to run!

So, the plan is tomorrow after my conference in the morning, I will come home and get my workout in. Looks like it will be on the TM, since we are supposed to get A LOT of rain tomorrow!

Hi Laurie,

What are you doing for your gymnastics unit? I was a gymnast until I graduated high school. I was okay at gymnastics, but not good enough for a college scholarship. Since I am 5'6", it was hard for my barely 5'2" coaches to spot me on new tricks so basically, I just stuck with the tricks I knew. My favorite events were floor, beam, bars, and then vault. My favorite was floor because you couldn't fall off of it.:rotfl: (Of course my music stopped in the middle of one of my floor routines and the judges were so impressed that I kept going, I got my personal best score on floor!:rotfl: )

We are getting the rain that I think you are talking about that you will get tomorrow. It has rained off and on all day, but the last couple of hours, it has been pouring down in buckets.

Hope you have a great weekend! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Hope that rain stops for you. Its freezing rain here so I didn't go to the gym. Just too dangerous. Do you think I can count cleaning the basement as a workout. lol.

Have a good weekend!:)

I am kind of disappointed that I didn't get my run in today, but I was just totally exhausted. I had to be up at 5am, to leave by 530 to get to my presentation on Long Island. I did a presentation at a physical education conference, and I had to present at 7:50am!! On top of that, the weather was RIDICULOUS!! It is a really good thing that it was warm here today, or we would have had a blizzard. It rained SOOOOOOOOOOO...much. Roads were closed everywhere, and it was awful driving. At any rate, I made it to my presentation and was pleasantly surprised that I had about 90 people attend my session on games and activities. I was only expecting about 40, so I was really psyched. Well, after my presentation, I stayed at the conference and attended some other sessions, and left around 1. By the time I got home I was EXHAUSTED!! I planned on taking a nap and then heading out for a run, since the rain had passed and the sun had come out, but I just couldn't get up.

SO, that means I will do two runs this weekend, a shorter run tomorrow and then a long run on sunday. I really need to get back on track. I feel like the last few weeks have not been so good, between being away last week and not feeling well, then just being busy this week, I am a little frustrated with my training. I really need to get back on track this weekend.

Tracy-I teach K-3, so my gymnastics unit consists of basic tumbling skills and some basic skills on the balance beam and vault. We don't do anything too advanced, but the kids LOVE the unit! They ask about gymnastics all year long. Many of the students have no exposure to gymnastics besides our unit in school, so I like to show them a variety of basic skills. That is so cool that you were a gymnast. I don't really have a gymnasts body-I am 5'10 so I never did gymnastics as a kid, but I love teaching it now!!!

Carole--cleaning the basement is definetely a XT workout!!

Hopefully, I will check in with a better training report tomorrow!!

Hi Laurie,
I just saw that you were running in the Long Branch Marathon next month. I wanted to do it and prove to my husband that I could do a half marathon and then I could talk him into the Disney in Jan. It never happened. I never got the training in this year. Maybe next year.

I live in the town next to LOng Branch and it is a very flat surface. The path takes you through some lovely sections of Long Branch. The only problem is if there is a wind off the ocean then it could get pretty cool. My ds usually mans a water station with a group from his school.

Where in Bergen County are you from? I am from Moonachie, where my parents and sister still live. I also have a sister in Bergenfield and one in Glen Rock.

Too bad you are not doing the Long Branch Half....It would be cool to see someone from the boards there! I am so excited for the race, it will be my first half marathon, and I am only doing a 5K and hopefully a 10K race before that, so it will be one of my first races. I can't wait.

One of my co-workers ran in it a couple of years ago and told me that if it is windy near the ocean it could be rough, so hopefully the winds are calm that day!! I am excited that it is a flat course though, especially since I haven't done much hill training yet. You can tell your DS to look for me in my WISH shirt (that is if we have them by then!)

I live in Saddle Brook. I actually grew up in Cedar Grove, moved up to Westchester County for several years, and I am now back in Jersey. I wasn't a big fan of living in Westchester, so I am so glad to be back near my family and friends. My sister lives in Jackson, so I spend a lot of time down at the Jersey Shore!

Just a quick drive by training report for todays run.

I had only planned to do 3.5 miles today and then my LR of 5 tomorrow, but the weather was AWESOME today! So, I decided at the last minute to do my LR today and then run shorter tomorrow when it is supposed to be cooler. Well, I finished in a PR for 5 miles. Final time: 47:13!! WIth a 9:24 pace. I was really psyched. I felt great the whole time, maybe it had something to do with the weather.

It's supposed to be nice weather at the end of the week here (after a drop to 20 below C on Tues):cool1: Nice weather would really inspire me too.

Keep up the good work. You are doing awesome!

Tracy, Nicole, and Carole--Thanks so much for the encouragement! It is always nice to get that here!

Today, I had a 4 miler planned. Since it is very cold here--in the low 20's with wind chills that made it feel much colder than that, I decided to head to the gym. I brought my running gear to work with me so I could go right to the gym from work. I finished my 4 miler on the TM in 36:15!! I had an average pace of 9:00. I felt great the whole time and the TM didn't seem so bad after all. Although, I would MUCH rather be outside running. Unfortunately it looks like we are going to have cold weather for the next couple of days, so looks like I am going to have to rely on the TM for the next few workouts. I am hoping by Sat/Sun it will warm up for my LR. Looks good so far!

That's an AWESOME time on your 5 mile run!

You'll do fantastic with the 1/2 coming up! Hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Keep up the good job & have a great rest of the week! Stay warm!

I do believe Spring is coming...next week in fact its supposed to be 10 degrees here. So you have to be way warmer where you are/:beach: Ok maybe not beach weather yet...but getting there.

Great run!

You are doing great, Laurie!:thumbsup2 I'm sending some good weather :wizard: your way so you can start running outside again. I love walking outside because it gives me time to exercise and clear my head.... Hope the weather cooperates for both of us soon!:goodvibes

Have a great day!:goodvibes
