Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

How nice to have 30 degrees to run in. Perfect weather. I'm really looking forward to hitting the parks with my new Garmin. I drove by one of the parks I'll be using and the walkways are still snow covered. Soon though.

Hope you won at your hockey game.

You are doing great Laurie! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

We had 30 degres temperatures here yesterday too and it felt like a heatwave! :beach: (Okay, maybe not beach weather, but still warmer than it has been!:rotfl: ) We're expecting a lot of snow here too. Be sure and stay warm!

Have a great day!:cool1:

Well, we are finally getting some significant snowfall here in NJ. I was really hoping we wouldn't get any, but my luck ran out! I did manage to get in a run afterschool today before the weather turned bad. I decided to get out to the park, since I will probably be forced to stick with TM workouts the next several days. I ended up doing 3 miles in 28:56 with an average pace of 9:34.

I felt very sluggish today, and I was exhausted. The kids at school today were very wild, and it just drained all my energy. I guess the kids were anticipating the snowstorm and a possible snow day, because that is all they were talking about all day! So, hopefully, I will be home tomorrow with a snow day, but I guess I have to wait for the call in the morning!

I hope to get a two mile workout in tomorrow, but with the snowstorm, who knows!

Carole-a lot of people on the boards talk about their Garmins....I may have to break down eventually and buy one. I look forward to hearing about how you like it once you start using it.

Tracy--Hang in there with this nasty weather!! Soon enough, spring will be here....I can't wait!!!

Hope your wish came true. We had our first snow day in years last December. Being a nurse that didn't work for me. If anything they needed anyone to lived in town to get in because out of towners can't.
Stay warm and don't hurt yourself shovelling!

Your time was great, even though you were feeling tired. Great job! I'm sorry about your snow, I totally understand how the weather changes training! Good Luck and be careful if you are going to try to run outside. It gets slick so quickly.
I to, have a Garmin, and love it. It gives so much great info. I can't imagine running without it. If you are interested in getting one, make sure to check Ebay. That's where I got mine, and I saved a lot of money.

Stay warm!
Nicole

Laurie, I haven't had a chance to check in for a couple days, so just stopping by to say hello, and say great job on those times! You are doing great- I can't wait to hear how your race goes in April!

I am guessing you had a snow day today; we did here too. I can't wait to see some signs of spring......I can just imagine now.....running on a nice long run, feeling the warm sun on my arms, and smelling the blooming flowers as I pass by them..... I can't wait! :)

Hope you have a wonderful day!
Lisa

Well, we did get a snow storm, or should I say ICE storm!! We only ended up getting an inch or two of snow, but probably another inch of ice on top of that. I ended up having a snow day from school yesterday, and a two hour delayed opening today. So, that was a good thing! Although, there was no way i was going to go out to the gym in those conditions so no workout yesterday. Then today, I just wasn't feeling it. My throat is still sore from last week and I just had no energy, so I skipped the gym today. Which means tomorrow I must get to the gym.

Valentine's Day was nice. My DBF came over afterwork and we went out to the Brazilian Steakhouse for dinner...one of my favorite restaurants. They bring the freshly cooked meats around to the table, I love that place, although I always seem to eat WAY to much when I go there...luckily we don't go there very often.

He also brought my valentine's gifts, and he did great!!! He bought me a Nike long sleeve shirt for when I go running and a amphipod(??) belt...one of those belts you wear that has the water bottles on it. I have been saying for awhile that I want to get one of these for my long runs, and he found one on the internet and ordered it for me!! He is great! He also bought me a die-cast car for one of my favorite NASCAR driviers! So, he did a great job!!

Well, hopefully will be a better training day for me!!!

Lisa--Thanks for the encouragement!! I agree that I cannot wait for spring either!!!

Nicole--Thanks for the tip on the garmin--I am going to look on ebay tonight and see what i find. I also hear that they may be on clearance at Target so i may check there also. The snow wasn't so bad, it was the ice that was the worse. I am ready for spring after only one snow storm.

Carole--my wish did come true---I got my snow day!!! Not much shoveling had to be done, I live in an apartment complex, and they are great about shoveling the walks.

Snow days are wonderful aren't they?:cloud9: Please be careful in all of that snow and ice though. I heard on the radio today that the temps may be in the 40s next week here in Ohio. Hopefully, it comes your way too.:goodvibes

It sounds like you had a nice Valentine's Day!

Hope you have a great weekend! Keep up the good work!

Good for you, listening to your body! It is so important to take a break when you are fighting off a bug! I trully apologize for sharing our horrible weather with you! We only got about an inch with our last storm, but it is super windy! They say though that the wind is pushing in warmer temps, so we are getting rid of more snow, and it should be 50 on Sunday! Hopefully the nice weather will come your way soon! Be careful if you try to run outside! Did you make it to the gym today (Friday)?

Well, I really can't seem to get rid of this cold I have. Just when I think I am feeling better, I wake up in the morning and I feel worse. I got to the gym afterwork yesterday and got in a 3 mile workout. I finished in 29:25, with an average pace of 9:40 mpm. I was super happy with that, because I just had no desire to workout, but I made myself go. So, I was really excited with my pace.

Today, I spent the day cleaning my apartment. Can that be considered XT? I am off of school all next week and my DBF and I are heading to Lake Placid to do some skiing. I am very excited about that, so I spent the day getting everything together for our trip. I hope to be able to get some running in while I am there, but I figure I will be getting in some XT with all the skiing we will be doing. The hotel we are staying at has a fitness room with a TM so I am planning on getting my workouts in even while we are away.

Ok, gotta head out to my hockey game. Then tomorrow morning going to do my LR of 4 miles for the week before relaxing and watching the Daytona 500!!!

Nicole---50!!! you are having a heat wave!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I hope you were able to get outside for a workout while it was a little warmer!
Tracy--snow days are definetely wonderful!! I feel like a little kid again when I am anticipating that call early in the morning, and I can't sleep. I see it as a day of relaxing, because I always end up just laying around doing nothing!

Unfortunately, I still have this stupid cough/cold. I cannot get rid of it!!!!!!

I did get to the gym this morning for a TM workout, although it was a rough go. I finished my 4 miles in 48:05 with an average pace of 11:18. I ended up walking the whole first mile, then jogging the second mile, then walking the first part of the third mile, and jogging the last 1.5 miles. I just wasn't feeling it today, so I didn't want to push it and not be able to finish it. So, I took it easy so I would be able to finish the whole 4 miles. So, I was happy with that.

Today, I am taking it easy, and watching the Daytona 500.....I am a diehard NASCAR fan!!!! GO DALE JR!!! So, nothing much will get done around here once the race starts!!!

Tonight I need to pack as my DBF and I are heading to Lake Placid for four days for some skiing and winter fun. I am so psyched about our trip!!! Although, I am hoping i am feeling better. Not sure how much training I will get in this week as far as running, but I will get a lot of skiing in, both downhill and XC...so that will be good for me. Also, I am going to go snowshoeing, which I am so psyched for!!!!

Hi Laurie,

I hope you are feeling better soon.

It's funny how you mention waiting for the call about a snow day.... Before becoming a SAHM, I was a fifth grade teacher and we had the typical phone chain list for snow days and other emergencies. Well, as a teacher, I would always get the call that school was closed, but I didn't feel like it was real until I saw it flashed across the bottom of the TV screen that school was closed.:happytv: I guess it's just a habit from childhood when I would wait very impatiently for my school to be listed on TV. ;)

Have a great time in Lake Placid!:cool1:

I hope you are doing better, especially for your trip. Just hang in there, and go as slow as you need to with your training, be proud of yourself just for getting up and doing it!
I definitely think cross country skiing and snowshoeing count as cross training! Never been snowshoeing, but cc skiing is lots of work!
Have a great trip and take care of yourself!

I hate those colds that just won't declare themselves. Give me a one or two day feel really rotten where you are forced to bed and get it over with anyday. The ones that just linger are a real pain.

Anyway I hope your trip was not ruined by your cold and you got lots of skiing in. I broke my ankle the first time I skied so it just isn't my sport! lol. I remember there `was a Boy Scout there who while I was lying on the ground convinced me I should see if I could stand on my leg. Not sure why I listened to him but I did. Big mistake. Then they took me off the slope on a big sled. Very embarressing. Oh well it was my big attempt to like winter and it failed.

See I'm telling you this now because you won't get this message till you are back from your trip. lol.:rotfl2: I'm sure you will come back with all limbs intact.

Well, we got back last night from Lake Placid and we had an awesome time!!! Didn't get any running in, but managed to get some XT workouts in. We went XC skiing on tuesday and did that for about 2 hours straight. What a workout!! I was exhausted when we finished and my muscles were a bit sore!! But, I loved it. I had never been XC skiing before, but now I can't wait to go again!

On wednesday, we went to Whiteface Mt. for some downhill skiing. I haven't been skiing in about 3 years, so it took my a little time to get used to it again, but I got back into it really quick and had a blast!! The conditions were excellent and surprisingly it wasn't that crowded despite the fact that most schools are closed around here this week. Needless to say after two days of skiing, I was EXHAUSTED on wednesday night!!! and my muscles were reminding me of that every minute!!!

Yesterday, we got up and packed up the car, went shopping in town for some stuff. I actually found an awesome scrapbooking store and bought a whole bunch of supplies! I can't wait to scrap now! Then we headed home for the 5 hour trip!

Today, i woke up and went out for a run. It wasn't so cold out, but it was very WINDY!!! I did 3.5 miles in 34:30 min, with an average pace of 9:49. I was very excited with my pace, especially since I haven't run in almost a week.

Tomorrow I will try to get in some XT before heading to my DBF's Dad's birthday party tomorrow night and then I will do a 5 mile LR on sunday morning. I may have to do my LR tomorrow since I am supposed to officiate at a track meet on sunday, but I am not sure what time the track meet starts so I may have to move LR to tomorrow we will see.

Carole--Funny you mention about your skiing injury. When I told my mom I was going skiing, she reminded me that the last time I went skiing 3 years ago, I sprained my ankle really badly, and had to be taken down the hill on one of those sleds also because I couldn't put any pressure on it. So, needless to say the whole time I was skiing, I could here my mom's voice in the back of my mind telling me not to get hurt!! :rotfl2:
Nicole---you are not kidding about XC skiing being a lot of work. I think I used muscles that I haven't used in a long time because I was so sore the next day!!!!

Hi Laurie,
Glad to see you came back with all your limbs intact. lol.
Sounds like a wonderful trip!

Well, I have been a little MIA this weekend since I got home from Lake Placid. I really wanted to get some scrapbooking in this weekend, since it has been a long while since i have done any pages, so I devoted a majority of my free time doing that.

I did get my LR in on saturday morning. I finished 5 miles in 54:09 with an average pace of 10:47. It wasn't my best workout lately, but i finished. I ended up running the first 2.5 miles, but i was feeling a little nauseous at that point, so I decided to walk the next 1.5 miles, and then I finished by jogging the last mile. I was just happy that I finished, I am not sure why i was feeling nauseous, but it seemed to pass after walking for a little bit.

Today is a rest day from running, but I am playing in TWO hockey games tonight!! call me crazy, but one of the other teams in my league needs a goalie for their game which is right before my regular game, so I said I would play for them....I keep asking myself why I say yes to these things! Oh well, I guess it is good exercise!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Glad you had a good time Skiing (and came safely home!)

Your running is GREAT!

Have good rest of the week & stay warm!
