Today we were off to the Hard Rock Hotel, my favourite hotel in the world! We got up at 8.30 am and breakfasted in the room on apple juice, coffee, babybels and rice krispie bars. We finished up our packing and checked out of the Wyndham at 10.30 am. We went to the shop across the road for a postcard book and stamps before setting off to the HRH.
We checked into the HRH concierge at 11.15 am. The room was absolutely gorgeous. (As you can see, we had somewhat messed up the room by the time I got around to taking the photos!)
This is the view from the concierge floor, by the lifts, gorgeous.
We unpacked a little bit, picked up a coke from the concierge room and then walked over to Universal Studios.
We headed straight for lunch at the Monster Café. I love this place, very dark and atmospheric and there was absolutely no one in the queue! We shared a pepperoni pizza and a chicken caesar salad. I kept saying Im so happy, gotta love that Florida feeling.
We left the café and walked round for a gentle ride on ET. On the way there we saw the new band playing outside Mels Drive-In who were very good. They play a mixture of mostly 50s and 60s music very well. They are dressed up to look as though they work in the café when theyre not out playing music.
After ET, we went to watch the Horror Makeup show which is something we have never done before. I was a bit dubious as I am pretty squeamish but had heard that it was mostly funny so we decided to risk it. I was glad we did. It was very funny and the hosts were so quick witted. I loved the set too. Even though I kind of suspected the ending, it still freaked me out! I was glad it wasnt me up on the stage!
We watched the Blues Brothers who have added some new and less well-known songs to their repertoire. They were great as always and I was particularly impressed with their rendition of Rubber Biscuit.
Next we did Andys favourite ride, Jaws. We had possibly the best skipper ever and she made it a real treat. I screamed along as always. We stopped for my favourite snack rainbow dippin dots, a spin on Men in Black and then on to my favourite ride, Jimmy Neutrons NickToon Blast. Rounding out the day, we caught Beetlejuices Graveyard Revue as it had been a while since wed done this one.
A couple of photos of the Simpsons ride development area:
On the way out of the park we did a little shopping. I got a Patrick which I had promised my sister, and a Betty Boop vest for me which says bad girls are good girls who dont get caught.
We walked back to the hotel at 5.45 pm in time for drinks and nibbles in the concierge room. We had a Bud Lite each and some cheese, crackers, crudites and dips. Showers were next and then out for tea.
We were planning on heading out to CityWalk, but had gotten no further than the gate when a band started up at the Beach Club pool bar. They kicked off with two Green Day songs and sounded really good so after a few minutes debate we decided to stay at the hotel for tea. The band were called Audiology and were pretty good.
For tea we had:
Me Tuna wrap and diet coke
Andy Quesadillas and Bud select
and we shared some fries (its America, you have to). The food was good, as was the entertainment not only the band but also watching some spoilt brat sulking when a waitress brought out his birthday cake, he was so rude and definitely old enough to know better.
We had a look round the shop after tea and then headed to the Velvet Rooms for a drink malibu and coke for me, and gin and tonic for Andy. We made it to bed at the respectable time of midnight.
