Laundry for Studios at OKW (or any DVC)

At the end of May I am staying in a studio at OKW. I understand with the studio's that there is no washer/dryer in the room (like with the 1 bdrm) they are located by the pool.

My question is - how do they make these only for guests staying at these resorts? Are they key operated? What stops someone who is staying at say POR/POFQ (both of which are near by) from swinging by OKW and doing their laundry for free there instead of paying at their hotel?

Just curious :scratchin

They are not key operated, or they weren't when I was at BWV. What stops freeloaders? Inconvenience, I guess. Laundry machines aren't that expensive, it would be a lot of trouble to bring it all to another hotel just to take advantage of free machines. I'm not saying no one ever does it, but it's probably infrequent enough that no safeguard is necessary.

When we were at SSR the summer of 04, the laundry room doors auto locked at 11 PM and we had to use our resort room cards to open the doors.

That was our experience at SSR also. I locked myself out! :rotfl2: We were taking a late night swim and doing laundry and I left my key in the laundry room.

Front Desk sent someone over. Good thing I wasnt skinny dipping! :rotfl:

It forever will surprise me how many different ways people will try to steal something that is not theirs. What should prevent them is realizing it is not their laundry room to use-nor are the towels at the pools, etc.

At VWL the laundry room is on the 1st floor along with the ice machine and soda machine. Pretty close the the lobby and sturdy branches. At BCV it's on the 4th floor. At BCV it seemed that they were used much more.

The few times I've used the BCV laundry, I guess I've been lucky-no one else has been there. Peoples' sense of honesty is the only thing holding anyone from using the BCV laundry. Some people think it should be key activiated, at least there. I've heard one or two stories of people coming over from the BC to use the free laundry facilities at BCV. Sounds like br*** ones to me, some people are really cheap!

OKW use to be key entry after 11:00pm too - I don't remember the last time - we always did the laundy on our days off - when we were swimming....

I don't know about the next trip - at 80 degree pool water might be too cold to go swimming in December....

August will be my first trip as DVC owner , the last 8 times I've stayed at BWV we stayed in a 1 bedroom and always used in room laundry . One time I went and stayed at the INN and did laundry somewhere down the hall, and paid for it. . We are staying in a studio this trip cause its just me and my 10 year old " sneaking down " for the week , we wont have to pay to do laundry?
Not that I will but just asking in case? Thanks for your time :goodvibes

no, the laundry mat for the studio is free. it looks like it wants coins but trust me it doesn't....

for the BWV it is on the first floor.

Well, you do have to get thru the security gate at OKW and some of other DVC resorts but I guess if you are cheap enough to try to "steal" laundry services, you also would not have a problem fibbing about your reason for driving your car into the resort.
