Laundry etiquette

It's just been washed!
And if it's cotton, it's been picked and handled by so many people before it was cloth!

I've been saving this, but.....
Do you use the ships or hotels towels to dry yourself?
They have been touched by others before you many times. Just cloth to dry yourself in intimate places, but socially acceptable to pretty much everyone?
This exactly! Thank you.

As I've read this entire thread, I was thinking this same thing... For those who have commented on extreme allergies to items that have been laundered in professional grade machines with detergents other than the ONE that you are able to tolerate, I'd like to know if you are able to sleep in hotel/cabin beds or use guest towels??

I do have additional questions about laundry rooms on the ships. How many are there (specifically on Fantasy) and what decks? How many machines in each room? Cost of supplies and machines?

If I choose to use laundering service, what is the 'turn around' time and what is the cost?

TYIA for your help!!

OMG, wash, dry, watch your own clothes. Throw the stinking clothes in the suitcase. Tip your room steward. Easy peasy.

Why is Tinkerbell blonde? Is her pizzie dust planet friendly? Edible? Try washing that crap out. I'm PizzieDuster ~ I know. ;)

Thanks for the giggle on someone suing someone for touching their laundry. Still giggling. Attorney: "What can I help you with."
"Well, someone touched my clothes."
"Do you have video?"
"No."
"I'll get a court order for video of any persons entering or exiting the laundry room."
"Okay."
"What are your damages?"
"I'm now traumatized and can no longer ever ever use a public laundry room again and my yoga pants are RUINED!"
"That's good, that's good, what about seeing a dryer, does the dryer give you nightmares?" "Um, yes!"
"That's good, that's good. What about seeing Mickey in person? Did this incident cause you to never want to see Mickey again?"
"Um, ya."
"That's good, this is good. Now I just need a $5,000 retainer. This is good. Disney will pay for this - let's set a standard, demand that they put signs up. Ya, this is good. I get paid if I win, if I don't you pay for everything. Sign here."

Oh lord! Yes, this will be the next campaign picked up by the ambulance chaser. He's probably already tracking down people who've said they were traumatized. :)

Ok so for the clothes left there still at the end of the cruise.... I bet people have put laundry in and then left them at the end of the cruise. They probably got home and still couldn't figure out why they couldn't find their favorite shirt. LOL!
Maybe DH thought DW got them and she though the got them. I bet there is a pile of "stuff" left behind each cruise if you count everything they find from all over the ship.

Probably. But someone's belongings is still someone else's items. I don't care if you like touching my items or not. I'm saying is you can personally be held liable for damage or what not. Your choice. Love how people get so upset and always think they are right. Do so at your own risk.

I find some of these responses absurd. What ever happened to common sense and perspective?

Here's the deal: if you choose to do your laundry in a public laundry room, you are using public machines. You use and pay for your cycle. Period. That does not entitle you to however much time it takes you to return and move your items. If somebody else comes along and your cycle is finished, don't stomp your feet and protest that they moved your stuff (again, your paid time is finished) so that they could pay for their own time and use that PUBLIC machine. If it matters that much to you, don't use the laundry room or be there when your machine finishes. We're all in this together, and everyone's vacation time is valuable. I certainly would not waste any of mine waiting for someone to come and collect their clothes.

Seems pretty simple to me, but maybe I just have some perspective. :)

I don't think anyone is upset. Giggling, but not upset.

I would so love to see this on Judge Judy. I can see her now, tapping her watch saying "Leave me alone, I have other things to do today."

That would be funny! It's kind of like someone leaving their stuff on a city bus, because they don't want to haul it on their errands. Then they get back on the bus later and get mad because someone moved it to sit in that seat. I would love to see Judge Judy deal with a person trying to hold the "defendant" liable for any damage to the stuff. :)

I think what you maybe missing from my posts, is that the person that has not returned to collect their items has effectively abandoned them in a public place.
What you may consider damage I may not.

TBH, the only person here that seems upset is yourself in that others have disagreed with your stance on this and because they have a differing opinion.

If only the ships could have a video link to Judge Judy to settle these disputes or even have her make the rules about seat saving, chair hogging, washer abandonment before hand!

Clearly why it was said that you should not touch it. It's not abandoned. It's in a washing machine. That's why I suggest staff handle the situation. All these high and mighty... Funny, acting like they are the authority on the subject. It's done so this and that. I just expressed what I would do and will do if I needed to. I would easily do the same as you depending on the circumstances. But I'm a man and can take my licks. Don't get upset if you get told off for touching other people's things thongs or what not.

Not usually, no.

I bring my own (lightweight, dries fast, designed for camping/hiking/backpacking) towel ( http://www.cascadedesigns.com/packtowl ) and I bring an Allersac ( http://allersac.com/ ) to sleep in (which also serves as an allergen barrier to the dust mites and such in the mattress). There is a reason we almost always fly with two checked bags :-) Same applies when visiting friends and family, btw, not just hotels and the like.

Hi Starwind,
I tried to find your post to requote it but obviously missed it!

We obviously do not see eye to eye on this, as leaving your clothes in washing machine after the time has expired means you DO deprive others from using that service and that is abandonment of your items after the time you paid for that space and service. It is selfish and should be discouraged.

I see no one acting high and mighty, or as an authority on this, just people standing up for their rights as fellow citizens on a small floating community.
You obviously feel differently, and thats OK. But please do not accuse others of getting upset about it, when you are equally defending your right to get upset about us putting you in line with common decent standards of respect for one and another.

Edited to add;

@JW9DVC, as you are in law enforcement in Southern California, your jurisdiction and laws you work by are revoked when you enter international waters BTW ;)

No problem.

And I should clarify:

For a hotel, I can usually (but not always) SLEEP in the bed, but not directly on the linens. Most hotels now do not use detergents that have much if any of a scent to them (but the detergent itself is still a problem -- e.g. I still react to Tide Free, just not nearly as badly as I do to normal Tide). Rarely the linens are still a problem even when I have a barrier (Allersac, and usually also an allergen barrier sheet (not sheet as in full size of bed sheet, just a partial sheet of the fabric). In that case I work with housekeeping to have them double or triple rinse at least a sheet for me, or I use the self laundry to wash and rinse it out as much as I can. I have not had to do that for years though.

Visiting relatives or friends ? Much more likely to have to remove the linens from the bed to be able to sleep on it. At my aunt's I just bring an inflatable mattress...
