Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted on the Budget Boards for quite a while, but I came across something I wish I had for our last October's trip to WDW. I was in Target today and in the isle where they have all the travel size stuff, I found a little container of TIDE laundry detergent good for 4 loads of laundry. It was the liquid type, but still...I wish I had this last time. Anybody who goes on a vacation where there is a laundramat or has a washer/dryer - this is key. As a matter of fact, I will be bringing this on our cruise next May.

Just an FYI for my fellow DISers. Hope this helps someone out. Happy travels everyone.

those are great little containers aren't they. I like the tide tablets also. both are really easy to pack.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to look for that. I just put mine in an empty aquafina bottle. I measure three loads per bottle and put them in a gal. ziplock baggie just in case.

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I used the tablets before and they were great, but I can't seem to find them anymore. Do you know where to find them?

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Hi Everyone!

I just found that bottle of Tide at Target. I am not sure if we will need it, but with two toddlers there is a very good chance we will! Does anyone know what they charge for the washers and dryers?

24 days! :cool1:

Unfortunately Tide has discontinued them. Some people found them at Big Lots, Ocean State or other stores that carried discontinued products, but they are very hard to find.

Some people suggested putting a scoop (premeasured) of powdered into snack-size ziplocks.

HTH!!!! :teeth:

I found the Tide little bottles at Target this past weekend too! I was so excited as we are staying in a 2 bedroom condo on our upcoming trip.

I also found a small battle of All that washes 6 loads at Dollar Tree.....

I was looking around a new dollar store in the area and found bags of tide with lemon had never seen these before they are enough to do two loads...I purchased 4 bags for our vacations...aaat .50 cents per bag ..I noticed it had what appeared to be foreign writing on it ....when I got it home and was looking better at it not only did it have some type of foreign writing on it no english writing it gave directions on the back to use on a washboard not in a machine....I was a little nervous about using it in machine but it worked great and smells great........my husband wont let me go back and get more....he says that is illegal to sell in the states..........oh well!!!!!!!!!just thought i would share..........

The reason it's "illegal" in some areas is because foreign detergents still contain phosphorous as a cleaning and brightening agent. Phosphates do an excellent job of cleaning, but they cause algae to grow in lakes so a lot of areas have restricted their use since the mid 90s due to pressure from environmental groups -- prior to that, all home laundry detergents in the U.S contained them. But, if you're not washing in an area that drains to fresh water (or washing your clothes in a lake!) they're safe to use.

Phosphate detergents clean so well, though. I go out of my way to purchase Ariel detergent at the Mexican grocery store regularly (I've seen it at the dollar store too) -- it is made by Proctor and Gamble and is the same formula as Tide, but with phosphorous. It gets whites so sparkling white without any bleach, it's amazing. (Old socks that had turned to a dull greyish-white became bright white again after a couple washings in Ariel.) And, it removes "baby" stains (use your imagination) far better than anything else I've tried.

If you're worried about the legality of using detergents with phosphorous, don't -- your dishwasher detergent already contains it (look at the label -- without it, your dishes wouldn't get clean enough.) And, commercial laundries, hospitals, and hotels use detergents with phosphates to get sheets completely clean, for sanitary reasons. So go ahead and use it if you like it! I read about using foreign detergents a while back on a housekeeping site, and they're all I use now, exclusively. Why should the rest of the world get cleaner laundry? :earsgirl:

Oh goodness I would have loved buying this at Target. I was just there a few hours ago dong a little shopping for Friday's trip. I bought a dry detergent so I can package 1 load per snack size baggie.

It's amazing all the things you can find at Dollar Stores. Has anyone else tried the Xclaim washer and dryer sheets? Do they really work and can you find them in any stores?

Just a side note on the Tide bottles at Target. You can use the coupons for any size Tide on these little ones too. That makes a 4 load bottle on .49 for me.

We just bought a small bottle while we were @ WDW and left the reamining for the next person who had the room.

I am scared that the bottle will leak.

What a mess that would be.

Yes Yes Yes. I too found last year and bought Purex Tab(lets). They were the easiest thing to bring on vacation as we had a washer/dryer in our place!
Those sheets look very cool! I may check it out and buy some. No one yet on this thread has personally said they are good or bad though.

What are the prices to use the washer and dryer at the resorts??
