Latest update from DCL on IAN

In the past, when a cruise was cancelled, passengers were given a full refund and a discount for a future cruise in the next year.

When a cruise was significantly changed before departure (for example, moved from Caribbean to Canadian) passengers were given the choice of continuing the cruise with a significant onboard credit or cancelling and getting a refund.
I would be shocked if Disney cancels this cruise!

Yep, we were on the Cruise that changed from Bahamian to Canadian (Hurricane Matthew 2016) out of NYC.....we still sailed as we live local and it was so empty onboard due to people cancelling or not being able to get to the ship that they combined dining times to one time at 7:15....it was great to eat at that time!! We were compensated with onboard credit and discount on future cruise.

Another time during hurricane Jeanne (2004), Port Canaveral was shut down and evacuated. We were supposed to cruise on a Saturday. That Friday, on our way to the port, got a call from DCL about the closure and decided to head to WDW instead to hunker down for the hurricane. Was lucky and got the last room available at the Poly. DCL didn't sail our cruise until Monday and from Fort Lauderdale, instead of PC. The cruise before ours stayed at sea extra days and ours was cut from a 7 to a 5 day. We were bused down to Ft. Lauderdale by DCL. Both the Wonder and Magic were in Ft. Lauderdale the same time at the same terminal and trying to debark and board guests was crazy...no one knew what was going on. Finally got onboard around 6 at night.

I have to say our insurance was excellent!!! The claim fell under trip interruption and we were covered for our 3 nights hotel at WDW, all meals, our extra days of car rental and refunded for our pre-paid PC hotel. I submitted the claim and was paid within 10 days. I wish I could remember the name of the insurance we used at the time. DCL also refunded us for the 2 missed days, gave us onboard credit and a 25% future cruise credit IIRC.

Anyone affected by this storm who will be making a claim, make sure you save all receipts and take screen shots of any posted DCL announcements about the weather/delays/cancellations on their site. I submitted those announcements with my claim form in addition to my receipts to prove DCL delayed the cruise.

On board the Magic now. There was talk that some Florida passengers wanted to fly from Bermuda tomorrow back to Florida. Sounds like that's not happening now.

So again, get less than what you paid for. I mean, the Wish is already the most expensive cruise experience in the Disney fleet, which is one of the more expensive lines in the industry. I'm interested in hearing how Disney plans to compensate people for loss of value. And yes, I understand that they don't control the weather, but they do control their response to it.

I sympathize, given the cost and short length. But if they get off the same day, due to a hurricane, I'm not sure I would expect compensation from a customer service standpoint. It's well known that curing in hurricane season carries this risk, and usually it's cheaper to cruise then because of it. Some travel insurance policies may pick up some of the missed time from a compensation standpoint, so hopefully those traveling will check their policies too.

I doubt it....MCO closing tomorrow. When do you get to NY?

Well, I pulled the ripcord. I'm out. Rescheduled for late January. Same ship, same itinerary, no HOTHS parties, but that's fine. Now just gotta change hotels, flights, and ground transportation.
I think you made the right decision. Don't worry about the HOTHS party....it was short and crowded last time we did it.

Good decision. Disney should have cancelled the cruise altogether. This may not be a popular opinion...but it is not the most responsible decision to encourage people to travel to Florida and occupy hotel rooms when there is the need for shelter for others who are evacuating not too far away.

closing the port is a numbers thing ...... not what someone 'feels'

USCG closes the port based on National Weather Service predictions .......

January is my favorite month to cruise from Florida. The weather is so much nicer! It was so HOT last week. And now you have more time to look forward to the trip.

I've cruised in January before; it's not my favorite just because the weather is so unpredictable. Then again... there's right now!

The Wish cruise for 9/30 has been cancelled. Port Canaveral is closing tomorrow morning.

I would be shocked if Disney cancels this cruise! Weather for Friday…Sat Sunday through to Bahamas seems ok but the fact that so many passengers will most likely fly into Orlando Airport from points all over the country or world even, will not be arriving due to airport closure. can’t drive down I95 through hurricane….I don’t know how anyone will be able to make the departure…which most likely will also be delayed (as Disney already mentioned)
So, are you shocked still?

On the Wish now, last night at 9:30 the captain told us we will not be returning to Port Canaveral until Saturday or Sunday.
