Below is a clip from a news article (AP) filed at 1:50pm from a Press Conference with Democratic members of congress. Now this is a democratic speaking (Cong. Pelosi) but if the response is even half-true then something is definitely missing in the WH.

Anyway, read the whole article (on NYT website) but this is the 'damage'.

"At a news conference, Pelosi, D-Calif., said Bush's choice for head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency had ''absolutely no credentials.''

She related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.

''He said 'Why would I do that?''' Pelosi said.

'''I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?'''

Yes, let's listen to Ms. Pelosi and fire Mr. Brown.

Then Ms. Pelosi can call another news conference to complain that Mr. Brown is walking off the job leaving thousands of people in desperate need.

Way to create a no-win situation.

Sorry, but isn't Pelosi's major goal in life to discredit President Bush?

Ah, yes...I see that the republican strategy of "attack anyone that criticizes while ignoring what they say" is still in force. :rotfl:

I'm just shocked that none of the responses so far have defended Brown, but chose - again, shockingly - to attack Pelosi.

That all may be true about Pelosi but did she quote the president correctly or not. If not then I suggest she be censored by the House for making a false statement. However, if the president actually said the quote then there is a definite disconnect with reality.

My focus is on the message(words) not the messenger(Pelosi).

I've been wondering the same thing since last Tuesday, what went wrong? I mean some sort of factual accounting that proves FEMA left people in NO to die, not just vocal group displeasure and assigning collective guilt. Because if what people are saying is true and blame for things can be shared at every level, then every level should probably just shut up about it already.

Sort of follows the Democrat's strategy of trying to blame Republicans for everything and giving any Democrats -- especially those in LA -- a free pass.

If you think the posts on this thread constitute an "attack" on Ms. Pelosi, then you certainly live in an alternate reality than most other people. :3dglasses

On another post, I stated that the mayor should resign and the governor should either resign, be impeached or recalled. I am not taking a Democratic versus Republican side in this.

My reason for the thread was to find out what anyone thought about the president's 'alleged' response. Because if true then this president is at best clueless and at worst incompetent.

So at this point I am in total agreement with WV and that is Bush supporters will never question what he says just attack the messenger. Forget the message it is not important.

How many of these people jumping all over Pelosi have entertained the idea the next disaster maybe in their neighborhood........with an incompetent FEMA director and a president in denial.

Karma has a way of biting people in the ***.

Maybe you should read a few more threads before claiming that anyone is getting a free pass...since I've seen any number of people, including myself, say that the blame is shared by all involved. Nah...why do that when you can just personally attack anyone that claims that the administration shares even a little of the blame ?

Hmm...let's see...accusations that she's out to "create a no-win situation" and that her lifelong ambition is simply to discredit Bush....Nope, no attacks there. :rotfl:

Again...why is it that some people can't defend a position without attacking their opposition ? :confused3

I heard on the radio this morning from some national news organization (not sure which one) that Bush's response to Pelosi urging him to fire Brown was "Thank you for your suggestion."

Rep. Pelosi probably exaggerated to make a point, like most politicians (Bush included) do. No big deal on either side.

Not much to this, IMO.

Ah, yes...I see that the republican strategy of "attack anyone that criticizes while ignoring what they say" is still in force.

Comforting to know that some things can suvive even a hurricane, isn't it?

Still no comments on the message. Did Bush actually think that everything went OK as indicated in ''I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?''?

Taken at face value Bush did not think anything went wrong; therefore, either he is just clueless or incompetent. Take your pick.

And to forstall any of the 'attack' the messenger responses: 1) I believe everyone from mayor on up, D or R did not respond properly and 2) if you are not going to address the 'bush comment/response to pelosi' then why bother posting anything here?

Could you possibly point me in the direction of anyone who has said that Democrats...whether they are in LA or not, should get a free pass? I haven't seen a single one.

I have seen many though who think the only one who should get a pass is Bu$h.

Why should anyone even respond to this? At this point, It's total heresay, and the source is about as fiercly partisan as they come. I can just imagine the eye rolling if the situation were reversed and it was Tom Delay doing the quoting.

And it's not an attack to call either one of those politicians a fierce partisan. It's just a fact.

I've seen quite a few, Peachgirl. Not those on this thread, but there are some.

Which thread then, because I've spent a huge amount of time reading and posting on this subject and I haven't see one...let alone seen enough to make the blanket statement of it being the "democrat's strategy" that was made.

I believe bsnyder responded quite well. Why should anyone respond to this quote from Ms. Pelosi? Until it is corroborated, it's just hearsay -- another "he said, she said".

I agree with your point #1. As for #2, when you start a thread, the right to decide who can post what doesn't necessarily follow. If you don't like the way this thread has evolved, you can always request that it be locked. ;)

Blanket statements come in all shapes, sizes and colors. But it's nice to see we finally got ourselves situated on the proper sides of the "fence" once again. ;)
