I got the discount and haven’t received my D23 package yet. I just sent a screenshot of my profile.

I don’t see the word ‘free’ in the renew monthly wording. It renews monthly. Doesn’t specify free for a year.

I’ll enroll next month if you guys get it free
I already have a Disney Visa card and I’m not DVC and only have one trip planned in Nov so not a lot of benefits for someone like me.
Congrats!!New signature update - we are up to 620 now! This will be where we stop.......for now. The Riv deal was too good to pass up.
When I initially enrolled in D23 several years ago the free annual gold membership was valid for a year. There was no monthly membership from what I recall. Hopefully it’s the same offer (valid for a year). From the FAQ:
"The D23 Gold Member Monthly Plan is a complimentary membership for Disney+ subscribers through Disney+ Perks."
"At this time, the D23 Gold Member Monthly Plan is only available to Disney+ subscribers in the United States."
There is no one else who can sign up for the free monthly plan other than D+ subscribers. It is a different offering than the paid Gold plans.
The thing that really confuses me is why do you need to activate it by the end of the year if it's a continuous benefit for Disney+ subscribers? When I initially enrolled in D23 several years ago the free annual gold membership was valid for a year. There was no monthly membership from what I recall. Hopefully it’s the same offer (valid for a year).
I still don’t see anywhere where it specifies it’s valid for a year (as in free monthly for a year; usually offers will say free for first 12 months, consecutive months or free period expires 12 months after enrollment etc). It just says it automatically renews and you can cancel - why would you cancel something free; same deceptive wording other subscriptions use to bank on people forgetting to cancel.
I truly hope I’m wrong though.
Because they want D+ subscribers and this is a no-cost incentive to get/keep them with a manufactured deadline to make people take action? The thing that really confuses me is why do you need to activate it by the end of the year if it's a continuous benefit for Disney+ subscribers?
I don't see anywhere that says you can cancel...I saw it said that it automatically renews unless you cancel your D+ subscription or D+ Perks. When I initially enrolled in D23 several years ago the free annual gold membership was valid for a year. There was no monthly membership from what I recall. Hopefully it’s the same offer (valid for a year).

yes, it also makes me think that D23's new pricing strategy this year was a bit of a bust... dropping the free magazine, duo subscriptions, and a very odd gift pricing model tells me memberships are down...I think it's monthly because Disney+ is monthly. They don't want you doing Disney+ for a month getting the annual gold and then dropping Disney+. I think it's a nice perk actually.... do Disney+ get D23. You cancel Disney+ then you have to pay for D23.
ACK! Just added 150 direct points at VDH, while staying there over the weekend. (It must have been the tiny Stitch doll that sealed the deal) Bringing my total to 350 points with a December use year at VDH. (Also have 160 resale VGC June use year) Utilized Magical Beginnings to make the price per point go down. Had no intention of buying, but decided in the rush to check out by 11am on Sunday, wouldn't it be great if we had more points to book the extra night and not need to rush to check out...just leave whenever we are ready to leave that day. Oh boy, I think we are officially certifiable.
Curious... What makes August one of the worst UYs?They will try and push you into an Aug or Sept use year which are frankly the 2 worst.
Might be worst to them, but that is an opinion question. I have September and it’s great because we will rarely go to the parks May - July, so that’s a good time to not need to worry about points. I also have a June to pair with it though.Curious... What makes August one of the worst UYs?
It all depends on your travel patterns and when you are apt to use points. Using points in the last 3 months of your use year is more dangerous if you have to cancel plans, etc due to banking deadlines, etc. Most people who have DVC have school aged children at some point which means being beholden to school break schedules. This means for most people the most open time to visit Walt Disney World is June and July and the first week or 2 in August, Spring break which if you are like us being the week before Easter has a very expensive point chart and Christmas break other than a few long weekends. The weather in August is oppressively hot and rainy. On the flip side it is hard to travel in January and February if you have school aged children. It really comes down to where do you want that 3-4 month risk period to happen at the end of your use year for travel. We have combatted it with having used years from Feb to December plus some in the middle to combat it for having the right points to use at anytime of the year. Our trips are pretty well hitting 4 windows, Spring Break, Mid Summer, Oct Weekend Trip or Christmas break. My wife noticed and commented today that someone was banking and borrowing 1500 Aulani points to take a trip in the month or 2 prior to their expiration. If anything goes wrong they are going to have a good chance of having to eat those points and having paid all those maintenance fees for no use. If you are never going to travel yourself to WDW in May or June or July having an August use year may be idea. I would argue that May can be a great time to visit and would prefer Sept over Aug that way the bad months are June, July and August which I think we can all admit are not the best weather to visit WDW during if it wasn’t for scheduling issues.Curious... What makes August one of the worst UYs?
Our direct points are Disneyland June use year as we want to travel out there in the summer. We will almost always use our points very early in the use year. We just got back from our July trip on the 19th. The high temperature was like 77 degrees daily and we had to purchase long sleeve shirts to put on in the evening. It was wonderful and no rain.I was assigned an Aug UY without thinking about it much…while many skip summer at WDW, it’s a very convenient time to travel and now that we own at VGC, I wish we could book June/July with less risk. Also would like to occasionally visit AUL in Jun.
We also have a December UY and our in-laws want to do a Thanksgiving trip next year. I'm a little nervous but I'm sure it'll be fine.we have December UY... it works well for us... except it makes Thanksgiving trips a little scary...
