Late December car rental

Hi folks. We're heading to WDW in late December and planning on a side trip to Kennedy Space Center. Just wondering about car rentals. Can you do it on-site on short notice, or, considering the sheer volume, would you recommend booking in advance?

I have never done it over Christmas but my experience with Thanksgiving tells me you should reserve as far in advance as possible. Rates can go sky-high as the reservations approach capacity.

I booked a rental car months ago for our trip from 12/28 to Jan 2. Rates are sky high -- and I check 2-3 times a week to see if I can get anything lower. We will end up paying triple over what I have booked for our June trip.

Rental cars do not charge you any fees if you cancel so I'd make a reservation now, you can always cancel.

Just made a reservation a few days ago for 12/23 thru 1/3; got a rate of $404.00 for intermediate being an EA member thru my employer. As stated by others, don't wait too late, rates are 3 - 4 times higher if wait until last minute. BTW, we reserved early last year for our Dec. '04 stay.

Wow, the rates must get pricey right before xmas. I have a national Emerald aisle rate for Dec 17-31 (using priceless code and ent. coupon) of only $210 total.
