LATE check in--doomed for a bad location?

As I have mentioned in another post, I want to fly in LATE but then still come to POR since it is cheaper than the airport motel. If I check in after midnight, am I doomed to a little used room far from the main building? This would be a peak time, before Easter, and I would need an AB room (family of 5) and I'd like to be close to the main bldg. and food court, etc. This would be the first of 4 nights, more than half our trip, and the location can make or break during peak times. Does anyone have any positive late night check-in experiences to make me feel better?

I always check in late (coming from Denver) sometimes as late as 2:00 a.m. I have had good luck at the mods, even once when I checked in at POFQ the week between xmas and New Years, I got a decent room. At POR I had asked for AB and got that. It was in one of the further our buildings but there was a quiet pool and busstop right there so it was fine. And even in that far flung location, it was only about a 5-7 minute walk to the main area. And it was a lovely walk my kids really enjoyed. My TA just told me that AB rooms with the trundle are only guaranteed to families of five so you should be fine on that front. But I do think your chances of getting near the main area might be a bit slim. I wish POR had preferred location rooms. CBR does, have you thought about that resort? Although it looks like the main pool is going down for your time frame (although have seen conflicting reports on that).

Good luck, I would go for it at POR, the resort is so beautiful that being far out isn't as bad as could be.

I had a flight last February that got delayed numerous times due to weather in Florida, I was supposed to check in at 11:00 but ended up checking in at 4:30 am. I got an awesome room in AB building 18 corner room and all! It was a great location and room only a few steps from the quiet pool. I also was a solo and have heard getting into AB as a solo is almost impossible! So I think it could go both ways but just in case I'll send you some pixie dust! pixiedust:

You will definately be in the AB section, because that is the only section that will provide the trundle bed for the 5th person.

In 2006 we stayed at POR and did not check in until 3am, due to a long flight delay :scared1: We did get all of our requests, except one of them. We did get a ns room in the magnolia bend section...I didn't get the exact bldg. I wanted, but it still was not bad. We also received a nice quiet room with a beautiful view of a courtyard with a big fountain in it.

From what I understand, the rooms are pre-assigned, so in addition to making all of your requests prior to your visit, I would reiterate them upon check in. If for some reason they do not satisfy you, then I would ask if there would be anything available the next day. The CM did tell us that because we were not in the bldg. that we originally wanted, but it turned out that the Acadian House Bldg. that we ended up in was just fine, so we stayed where we were.
