Last week in August

For those of you that have gone in late August...How is the last week before Labor Day??? I know it's hot & humid but how are the crowds, are the parks open late etc? Just the general overview ..Thanks.

Possibly going to stay at the CR so we can do the parks from 8-12 go back to the room for a swim then head back out again around 4-5.

That time and yes you're right it is hot.Crowds can be moderate to heavy but with EE,EMH and Fast Pass you should manage well.Arrive to park of your choice early and be sure to drink plenty of water and take a rest break in shade often.The parks are for the most open late ,so you will have plenty of time to tour.

The last weeks in August is a great time to go.
I think the crowds are very light, with very little
wait times.
It is warm, but not that bad if you cool down inside

We have found the last week of August to be a great time to travel. Many schools are back in session, so crowds are light. The weather in August is HOT. If I recall correctly, the parks did start closing early the last week of August...I could be wrong though. My son started playing peewee football 2 years ago, so we are no longer "allowed" to travel between August 1 and November 1.

I went the last week in August several times and the crowds were low. It was hot and humid but the small crowds made up for it.

The last time I went was 4 years ago. Maybe something changed because everything I read projects crowds to be high that week. Could it be because more Europeans go to WDW now?

We went the 4th week of August in 2004 (8/22/05 - 8/29/04). The crowds were quite reasonable, especially in the mornings. Often FastPass was not needed at all. The water parks were definitely crowded because yes, it was HOT and HUMID... also expect and plan for afternoon thunderstorms and/or lightning watches which can close pools!

As for park hours, by the 4th week in August hours were DEFINITELY shorter since the resorts were less booked than they had been earlier in the summer. MK closed at 8:30 except for the 2 nights that SpectroMagic was run (then it closed at 9:30). Predictably those nights at the MK were quite crowded. Fantasmic too was shown at 8:30 -- only one show per evening (quite crowded on the night we went so we were glad to have done the dinner package). We had planned several PSs 90 days out that had to be adjusted once park hours were actually released. The hot weather can be very draining and since we were doing early mornings in the parks most days, the early closings didn't bother us as much as I would have expected. It's just nice to know what you might be getting into up front. We were naive and just assumed that late summer hours would be in effect until Labor Day. Who knew?

We went the last week of August (28th --Sept.3rd) last year and the parks were very low. Most of the fastpass machines were covered the whole day. We had a little rain shower on one day that lasted about 30 minutes but it was kind of nice with the heat. It was very hot but we just went early and took pool breaks in the afternoon. Parks closed kind of early but the heat made us tired and we were up early so it wasn't a big deal. We loved this time..much better than October for our family...so much that we are going back again this year

The only problem we encountered were the HURRICAINES. We were lucky and traveled just between the two that hit Florida last year. Our flight home was the last flight out of Orlando before they closed the airport for two days. But that would never happen again two years in a row.......right???!!!

The hours are shorter in the last week of August, MK and MGM will close earlier, but EMH should still be around hopefully
