Last To Post Game- Take 7 (ACTION!!)

Well, DH went to the doctor yesterday. Actually - two doctors...his regular MD and a specialist he's been seeing for his blood pressure. They both agreed his chest pains are related to his hyaetal (sp?) hernia - definitely not his heart - and he's also pulled a muscle in his chest/rib area. MD prescribed a muscle relaxer and a pain killer and told him no heavy lifting for a week or so! No heavy lifting! Yes, he's still planning to be a pallbearer today at Mary Helen's funeral!

The viewing at the funeral home last night was PACKED! We stood outside for about 15-20 minutes (and it was about 16 degrees out!) before we got inside. From the door we waited about another 40 minutes.

DH didn't go last night. He was resting up for today.

DD and her husband came up from Charlotte and met the boys and I at the funeral home. I'm very proud of her for coming up. She's just not that type and I know it took a lot of effort on her part to come up here. But Bill and Mary Helen were both a very important part of our transition when we moved here from FL. They made us feel liked we belonged here from the very first day. (I still remember the day we moved in here. We came up from FL with 2 kids, 5 and 2, and we didn't know a soul except for the sheriff who had hired DH. We pulled in here with DH driving a 24 foot u-haul, towing a trailer, and me driving our conversion van. And then he and I began unloading everything we owned from that truck and trailer! We were in the house and suddenly our recliner was upside-down over someone's head, coming up the sidewalk!!! A voice under the chair said, "The name's Bill, I'd shake your hand but my hands are full right now. Where do you want this?" That was the beginning of our 18 year friendship with Bill and Mary Helen.)

So, anyway, my kids did very well at the viewing. I was doing okay until we got right up to the casket. I looked at Mary Helen, so peaceful looking, and I was still okay. But then I saw Bill look at Mary Helen and I saw the look on his face. It was heartbreaking! I just lost it! And I'm crying now just thinking about it. I will NEVER forget that look. There was just such love in his eyes!

Kids are out of school today. Which is to our benefit because I've been wrestling with the idea of whether or not they would excuse the boys for the funeral today. Typically they only excuse funerals for immediate family but since we have no immediate family I was hoping they would excuse it.

We had icy conditions this morning. At 6 a.m. they put the schools on a 2 hour delay. At 8 a.m. they cancelled it. Also at 8 a.m. the highway patrol closed one (of two) of the major roads into the county because of ice. They were calling the road "treacherous" and there were accidents and cars stranded all over the eastern and southern part of the county. For once they got it instead of us on the western end!

We have 100% chance of rain today. It has been pouring all morning. But it stopped just a little while ago and the clouds aren't quite as grey. I wish the rain would hold off until after the funeral!

And I'm so glad there was someone to stay with yoy at the vets! I know how hard that must have been for you!

It was a very rough morning.

I had read that story as it was unfolding. Very sad. And it seems even sadder once you meet someone who is actually related to a victim. It puts more of a face with it, more of a reality to the whole thing.

And I though he sits here with me, worrying about my dog. Amazing.

He better be careful. DH's brother was having problems and he still wanted to help and the lifting really hurt him. And there were 9 of them and it was still too much for him.

That is how DH's Dad looked at his Mom when she passed. You could just feel the amazing love they had for each other.

Glad DD made it up. Sounds like the whole area will be missing Mary Helen with that long line.

hopefully none of those roads were roads the funeral party would travel on.

I had to cook --- but it was by choice!

I made a romantic dinner for all of the men in my life....DH and the three boys. I kicked everyone out of the kitchen, used a lace tablecloth and linen napkins, had flowers and candles on the table and used the good dishes!

I served mushrooms stuffed with crab and cheese and wrapped in puff pastry for an appetizer and served a spinach salad with avacado, mango, tomatoes and feta cheese with a raspberry walnut vinagrette. For the main course we had beef tenderloin in a balsamic red wine sauce, asparagus with hollandaise sauce and twice baked potatoes. And for dessert we had individual cheesecakes with cherry topping.

I want the boys to see how to do a nice dinner so that when they have girlfriends they'll know what to do!

It was a very nice romantic dinner............

but after all the time and effort put into it.....

I think they would have been just as satisfied with hot dogs on the grill!


But I enjoyed fixing a fancy dinner for a change.

Thats awesome! Glad you had a nice dinner. You are gonna have to watch the ladies around your boys!!!

Everything was delicious! It was the first time I had made the crab appetizers and they were wonderful!!!!!

And there was a little asparagus left over so I just made an asparagus and cheese quiche! Mmmmm!

yeah, that's not something that I would normally make. Did the boys enjoy the food?
