Have you considered shelters? That's likely where the homeless would be.
Salvation Army?
I think DC have done a lot to get the people off the streets....unlike Seattle :(

I'm on vacation...I don't have time to look up shelters, plus in the US there are laws against that. Basically if I could find someone hungry, I would hand them a plate of food, but you're probably right DC has probably started arresting people on the streets to get rid of them. LA/OC on the other hand will spend tons in resources for a 17 year old kid found with one Ecstasy pill when all she is going to do is be acquitted because everyone dropped the ball, rather than find murderers and child molesters. They do leave the homeless alone, there are too many of them. Perhaps we should become a republic, or I probably shouldn't open that can of worms again! :rotfl2:

I think people don't realize that custodial is actually a VERY guest-heavy role. The trash is part of it, but you honestly do much more guest interaction than just about anything else.

I have a friend who is doing the CP soon. They said they were willing to do anything except custodial and F&B. So when assigned ODF, out door food, flipped out. Because she believes she knows more about Disney and WDW than anyone else. I told her she should of requested custodial because she would help more guests than working in City Hall.

Yep. In custodial, the bright white costume is one of the MOST visible in the parks. I can't tell you how many questions I answered in an average day. The trash sucks, yes, but you spend more time answering questions and helping guests than anything else.

No need to bite le head off...
Just a suggestion that both Dana and I had...Not like we could tell you where to find people on the street???
Figured with you on the net so much and so on a quick google would find one if that would be an option.

Never mind

I don't think it has to do with wearing the bright white, I think they are easy to find because they aren't hidden behind counters or lost in the mob at the front of an attractions queue.

BTW when doing that did you ever find a penny under a can? Did any cans lift off the ground?

It's funny...I would often try and grab the attention of a higher up walking through the park just to see how they'd react. Especially when pin trading.
They're usually on a mission so it's always nice to see the "Disney difference" when they do stop and talk to you.
Had a lovely encounter in Tomorrowland with a group of 4 higher ups having an impromptu walk through/meeting.

I agree the white uniform does stand out though.
As for working in City Hall....you deal with a lot of unhappy people there...

Wasn't biting your head off....I guess I'm just so used to finding homeless people on every off ramp that when we order too much at a fast food restaurant, we hand them the extra taco from taco bell or dollar sandwich from McDonalds. Now I've got some really good food and I'd love to hand it to someone who is hungry and they're not around.

I guess I'm a lot more tired than I thought. I get sarcastic and snarky without realizing the tireder I get. Considering that we have done 8 days of non stop going, I'm probably too snarky for public consumption. We have a mega long day tomorrow.

Today we spent most of the day at the holocaust museum, that's another reason I could be in a foul mood! Let's just say, it was not nearly as happy as the American History museum. Thank god it wasn't as gory as it could have been, but it was pretty depressing. I wasn't sure if I actually wanted to eat lunch when we left even though I was STARVING!

I think I'm definitely ready to go home. The suitacases are mostly packed, I just have to do the fine tuning in the morning. Then we're out of here as early as possible to hit as many museums as we can by 2PM. Then catch our plane and get home by midnight our body adjusted time zone. I will be exhausted! Then we have to drive home and deal with the kids.

I can't wait to see my Sunny girl!

Can't you eat the leftovers for breakfast?

One thing my granpa had told me. He was from a cold climate and moved to a warm climate. Is that there were so many more homeless because of the climate.

Honestly if you take what you have on right now and decide to live outdoors you will die of exposure in DC and be fine in LA. DC acan be very hot and humid in summer very cold and wet in winter, LA is moderate all year long.

Bit of a difference here...and we don't have a nasty climate skiingfast...
You only find homeless at a few locations in the CBD and Central Railway station really. And the last thing they actually want is food. You'll see them begging for money etc but should you offer them food they don't want it...all they want is money.
Same as those who hassle you at a bus stop on occasion they say they want money for a bus ticket...but give them one and they're like...oh...nah I want money.

Could never go there...
I'm glad they have these places and are acknowledging the horrors that happened (especially in Berlin) but I'd never go there.

Hope all the planning and packing and flight goes well :thumbsup2

That's not entirely the reason...the reason is more to do with a proactive government in DC.
In Paris during winter (and a European winter is nasty) we found about 20 homeless in sleeping bags at the metro station near where we were staying...and it isn't a huge station.

There's so much that I couldn't eat it if we had dinner for the next two nights! Someone who is hungry on the streets could possibly eat it, althought their stomach is probably so small that they could not finish it. But I would feel better giving it to someone needing it. If I can't find anyone, then I'll throw it away.

One of my best and worse nights in Vegas. It was a totally crazy day.

But after sunset I was drinking and went into a McDonalds on the north strip, told I had to leave because I couldn't drink inside. So the two friends that were done drinking went in and the other friend and I stayed out. We had a lot of beer left to drink that we bought about a half block away. So not wanting to sit there for 30 minutes drinking we stash our drinks and got our food to go.

Of course by the time we get our food to go, the friends who ate inside are ready to go. So we all walk out, the two of us grab our beer and we start walking and eating and drinking. Hard to do while carrying a bag of food too.

So I finish my beer while walking and gave up on eating. So then we decided to slit up. Two friends go on while the other one and I stop at a bench to sit down and eat.

Two minutes later a bum comes by asking for money to get a cheeseburger. I said "Buddy you are in luck I have an extra cheeseburger right here". Reach in the bag and hand him a burger. He walks away mumbling, "All I really wanted was money to get a drink."(obsenities removed) Too bad I had drank all my beer.

Ok maybe hand it to some hotel staff. They might want food after their shift ends.

Oh and about the new thread. YES MAM!
