You're a very skilled procrastinator.
Yes I saw your wandering just then....lol...nice mate...
If Sydney is the north suburb then Melbourne is the south suburb.
Remember radiating circles....it's pure geometry...

Sometimes, I even get PAID for it!

Just don't tell the Canberrans! It'll be pure POETRY then (for them!).:rotfl2:

Some times. Of course I do turn every now and then.

Like this...with sunnies?

Where is the center?

Where is the center?

The border of the states of NSW and Victoria - twin towns, Wodonga (VIC) and Albury (NSW).

Canberra was built to stop the Capital Wrangling War between Melbourne (which was the Australian Capital) and Sydney. :rotfl2:

Canberra is located in it's own Territory; although New South Wales does try to claim it....sometimes.

Okay Lasters.

I'm going to have to go cut some fruit!

Have fun. Might catch you before Twilight Zone time.....or maybe sneak back in before we go to lunch. :goodvibes

We NEVER EVER claim that THING called 'ACT' :confused3
Sad sad little place.....

What's this about Melbourne being the Australian Capital?? I recall James Cook landing HERE first
All this misinformation....sigh...:rolleyes1

Skiing with sunnies - That's skiing in Oz!

No skiing in oz involves ice or slush, no snow pack underneath, and many people who CAN'T ski... :headache:

Big White ended its season with an alpine base of 317cm!!!
We're lucky if we get 30cm...

Actually, James Cook landed in a little spit of land in Queensland called 1770, near Agnas Water. They went ashore and didn't like the mangrove swamps.

For last year's Summer Photography challenge, one of the categories was Capital Dome. So, I did all this research. The Melbourne Exhibition Buildings was where the first sitting of parliament was for Federation, 1901. And the Federal Parliament continued to sit in Melbourne (as the capital city of Australia) until Canberra was built.

That's why at the Centenary of Federation, all the politicians came to Melbourne. It was the first capital city.

I give you.....Capital Dome (3 points)

Google it and see. ;)

ps. Never forget that Sydney is where all the CONVICTS, rogues and thieves ended up....anything a Sydneysider tells you is always COLOURFUL should always be taken with a large dose of salt! :rolleyes1

Did Cook get there, and say "I claim this spot as the Capital of the Colony of Australia for his majesty the king"?

What can I say...I changed schools so many times I managed to miss Australian History and do Ancient History twice :lmao:

I just know that most people who come to Oz go to SYDNEY first ::yes::
Then Queensland for the reef etc.
And Melbourne if they spot it on the map... ;)

I think he said "I claim this LAND for Britain". To this day, we still have CROWN land, which is held by the British Monarchy as we are still a Commonwealth country.

I once had a consultancy position for the Titles Office in Australia. It was interesting to find out that when an Australian buys property, their title only gives them ownership for the first 30 or 80 cm of land on their property. Underneath the topsoil, it is all owned by the Crown.

If and when Australia decides to become a republic, it will be quite interesting to see what happens to the land titles issued under White Australia settlement. Can you imagine - the land being owned by the republic and they then decide to sell it to the highest bidder???
