Just curious. Why did you think it would be scrubbed? It was a beautiful day here on the Space Coast.
All of these launches are bitter sweet for us. We love watching them, but knowing they coming to an end (and the economic impact it will have on this area) is very hard.
Because as of 11 am the weather was still at a 70% go. They scrub all the time. In my experience living here they are more often scrubbed on the 1st attempt than not. Then there was the issue with the ball bearing.
Like I said, I was just curious. We were at Brevard Zoo yesterday, so I missed news about a ball bearing, and like I said, the weather was gorgeous. I'm surprised to hear that it was just at 70%, but I understand they are looking at many different things.
We usually watch from our front yard, and love that because we can often hear the rumble. We missed that yesterday. I guessing it is because the zoo is farther away.
I was lucky enough to see a shuttle launch on the 4th of July 2006 while I was in WDW! We were at Blizzard beach, there was an announcement for everyone to look over the Lottawatta Lodge (I think), and yes there it was, the smokey trail going up. It was one of the most exciting things I've ever seen, especially since it was the 4th of July.
Just checked the NASA site. Discovery is scheduled for Sept. 16th (I hope it goes then, we'll be poolside at Yacht Club!) Endevor tentatively scheduled for "mid November". Hope some of you will get to see these final launches.
I talked to a NASA person yesterday and asked if he had any insider info on the Nov. date. Here's the insider info he gave me: 2011! Apparently getting that fix is taking longer than expected. We'll see......
oh my. apparently I don't read carefully. I've been seeing headlines but thought this was the last launch for just Atlantis, not that the program was ending.
