And to set the record straight

WE MISSED YOU TOO

you need to be here More

I try, but my commute is almost an hour and a half and sometimes I am just beat by the time I get home at 8. Now I am sitting here waiting for traffic to die down (its raining so it will be backed up) Once I settle into my new school I'll be able to get on line more.

So-- I am on my way back now.-- to the DIS that is. ;)

I don't think it was a fast thing
I think it was when he reached a certain age
they needed to do it so they could protect him and his interests

Going to see DGF was SO HARD!!!

But i am VERY GLAD i went

i learned just how strong I can be when i have to be

sorry if this gets long

DH and i got there about 9:15

His one nurse was leaving she told us he wouldn't eat anything just a few sips of milk and he was refusing to wear his Oxygen mask

so she left and DH sat in the chair on one side and I went to the other and tried to get him to put the O2 on
at first he wouldn't kept telling me he wanted NOTHING and said it really upset

He still thinks it is llike 1960
so I played his game when my Mom was a kid he called her Corkey
so I said "will you put it on for COrkey"
he said Ok
this after 15 minutes of NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Mom and her siblings and my Dad were at a meeting at the Funeral home

so then he keeps moaning in Pain
this man has never used the word HURTS in all my years i have never heard him complain
so i Knew he really had to be uncomfortable

The Nurse came in and i told her and she said it was Bath time and they would see how he was after that

He kept asking for my Mom
and telling me not to speed in my car
so I promised i wouldn't

DH and I left for about 20 minutes or so so that she could give him a sponge bath

When i came back all Hell Broke out
I walk around the corner and he is half out of bed
Head first toward the floor

I went over and got him back up and he is covered in vomit
DH starts cleaning him up while I go and get his Nurse
who says oh yeah he said he was nauseous and thought he might vomit
he must have tried leaning over the bed to do it
I just left him 1 minute ago

BULL the vomit had been there longer than that

Oh and his O2 is dangling BEHIND the bed so even if he did want it he couldn't reach

so we get him cleaned up and he keeps saying his Rectum Burns and his shorts are uncomfortable
they had to cath him yesterday so that is that
but he kept crying in pain

I said ENOUGH and went to get the nurse
His nurse was in an emergancy with another patient they said

Okay i said but 3 of you are sitting here gosspipping about a party this weekend do you think one of YOU COULD DO SOMETHING

I have now called Mom and she is on her way
but tells me she trusts me and I can handle what he needs

so as i stand there Holding my grandfather as he vomits (really hard for me to do ) DH goes to Find someone
they keep asking has he said he hurts or do you precieve he is in pain
I kept say i KNOW HE IS HURTING

finally DH says
he is complaing about being sore

and BAM 2 minutw later in comes his nurse with Morphine

Why did it take so long?????

his kidneys are shutting down
he is ice cold from his knees down
his eyes are gray not cloudy they actually turned Gray

He said I want to take a nice long rest

I said "Papa we love you it is OK to take your rest you earned it"
"It is OK to go home"

I pray he slips away tonight

it is so hard
DH is back there tonight
DGF seems to really like having him around

sorry this is so long but well your my Best friends and i needed to talk

FINALLY they are signing the hospice papers tomorrow
There has been some hold up but I don't know what

I left at noon

I went into work a bit late

I am glad i went

Oh Kayla what a day you've had. :grouphug: You are so very strong!

I Know you guys are here and I apprecaiate it

My Best friend since 6th grade hasn't even called me
and you know When I need to talk I don't even reach for the phone anymore

I reach for the computer
cause you guys are the Best :grouphug:

That is so true! I have a friend out-of-town. We've been friends since 3rd grade and she was my maid of honor at my wedding. But I haven't talked to her for almost two years. I know if I needed something I could pick up the phone and call and she could do the same.

But if I need to talk I come here 'cause I know I can count on you guys. You've certainly helped me through the stress of what I was going through leading up to today!

We're all so lucky to have found such a great group of friends we know we can count on!

Thanks for explaining Kayla - as gently as possible without using "that" word!

Pam - DH and I had to petition the court for guardianship of A.J., our son with Down Syndrome, since he is turning 18 soon. The first phase was that he had to be declared incompetent. I've had a very hard time dealing with that word. But Kelli reminded me that it is just a word, that had to be used for A.J.'s best interest just today. So that is how I kept myself going today...One word, one day, then it's over.

DH and I were given guardianship. So, after having this whole ordeal hanging over us I now know that our son will get to continue to be our son! I am so glad that it is all behind us now!

I can't believe how tired I am tonight. We got home around 5 and I laid down on the couch and fell sound asleep until 7:30! And I'm ready to go to bed now but I've got a few things I need to do.

I think the stress has caught up with me.

Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow and could stay in bed all day and catch up! :teeth:

Definitely not fast for us. We started the process in July.

I didn't mean fast in that way, I have several students and their families and it takes almost a year for them in our county. You start the process when they turn 17 and court is about a month before they turn 18.... that's all I meant....

I thought it would have been longer. 3 months is almost quick!!

We had a beautiful fall day today! :yay: :yay: :yay: You can just feel fall in the air. The leaves are starting to change colors and the temp never got above 60 today!!!!

When we first found out that we would have to do this we were told that the process usually takes about 6 months. (Remember, we're in a smaller area than you so that's the difference between a year and 6 months probably). And we were told that the final hearing and paperwork would be about a month before his birthday. He doesn't turn 18 until December! But this just moved along very quickly through the system. Everyone has said that it always takes longer. Lucky for us 'cause I don't think I could have lasted through much more than what I did with the waiting.

So, yeah, I guess you were right in the way that you meant fast! :thumbsup2

I had a real problem with "that" word! We've spent 17 years teaching A.J. to be the very best that he can and telling him to never say can't because he CAN do anything he sets his mind to. And then we have to go to court and ask the to declare him..."that word!" :sad2: "That word" was the hardest part of the whole process for me!

Now the guardianship word...I like that one! To me, that's a very special word and a real priveledge!!
