Anyone have or know anything about Guniea Pigs?????????

My girls were each given one today

yes my kids got RODENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so any pointers on care??????????
Unless you know MOST DEFINETLY you have a fixed piggie or two boys (or two girls)....get ready to have a whole bunch in a month!!!! I wouldn't even put them in two cages near each other...

We have one piggie and we LOVE him!!!! I would post a photo, but I thought you disliked rodents :confused3

My sister just had baby rabbits. She placed a young, baby male with what she thought was her fixed adult female for half a second while she cleaned the males pen. Yep, 3 baby bunnies about two weeks ago

DH once got a baby hamster....after a month he found out it was impregnated at the pet shop....he ended up with a bunch of hamsters

I do believe that Lyn has one. So she might be able to help you out. :thumbsup2
:thumbsup2 I forgot...care. Mine pees a lot. I used to have a cage for him for a small rabbit size, but he would pee so much. Now I have him in a larger cage (in my laundary area) were the bottom is a wire mesh. It is so much easier to keep him clean. I used to use shavings from my Dad (he does a lot of wood-work), but it didn't absorb the orders and had a lot of dust. So, the best thing I found to work is actually the most inexpensive pet bedding I found. They sell it at our Walmart and it is like wood chip with scent control in it. Works really well, better than the more expensive stuff at the pet store. I also have a little igloo in there for him to hide. I have a water bottle that I alway fill and a small salt lick. I was feeding him guinea pig food and alfafa hay...but recently I mixed some rodent food with some pellets my goat didn't want to eat...which is the same stuff in the piggie food but it is huge bag, maybe 30 pounds, so I should be good for a while :thumbsup2 We also feed him leftover fruits and veggies...and cupcakes. When his nails get really long, I trim them slightly. You don't want to trim it too short or they will bleed to death. You can usually see the vein in their nails. I also give him wood things to naw on....you need to keep their teeth healthy. I hardly bath my piggie, but he has gotten a quick bath before....I never wet his head. Right now, I have a short hair cavy...but in the past I the long hair kind. I used to have to trim the hair near his behind to help keep him clean....if not, it gets dirty back there. Also, if you have a pen with a wire bottom like I have now, all the poop drops into a lower bin (where I place the bedding) and they don't walk in it. If you have them in a cage where they walk around in the sawdust, I find that the poop will get stuck in their feet and then when they stand on the edge of their bowl to eat, the poop falls in their bowl. I used to end of wasting a lot of food trying to keep his food bowl clean. Also, some piggies like mine, love when you scratch under their necks :teeth:
