At my high school somebody gets picked on oh watch out! It's a HUGE fight. There were 3 police cars going to my school today because people were fighting. It gets dangerous...trust me..

Thanks...me too :goodvibes The worst part of being sick is that horrible feeling that I am not taking care of my kids as well as I should :guilty: thankfully, my DH is great with them...and we have a lot a family around....but it is still a horrible, helpless feeling.

I don't think my kids realize it though...they still ask me to fetch them water (even though they can get it themselves) and last night I layed down and watched a movie with them all on me :goodvibes

Lyn you're such a great mom!!! I know alot of people who don't even worry about anyone else when they are sick.

Thanks...I am feeling better today, not the best, but better...DH came home early saying he was tired and sick  great, now I have 3 kids to take care of....

I think he just wanted to be home with me...he doesn't look sick, no runny nose or anything :magnify:

Sorry about Andrew :grouphug: When my DS was getting picked on, DH told him it was o.k. to defend himself....he told him, shout "Stop IT!", then tell the teacher and if the boy is still picking on you (or you can't get to the teacher), it is o.k. to hit him back. So, DS forgets steps #1 and #2 and tells the teacher, "My dad said to hit him in the nose"
It is so hard to teach a 5 year old that it is wrong to fight, but that you can defend yourself so your not taking a licken' ...if anyone knows the best way to explain it, I am all ears :listen:

DH and I have told Andrew that if he feels he needs to defend himself then to go ahead and we'll deal with consequences later. That's what he did today. So he can deal with consequences, if any, tomorrow.

I am so tired of the other boys picking on him. You know how you always hear about someone picked on to the point of violence (school shooting, etc.). We constantly talk to Andrew about what is going on 'cause I don't want him to ever get to feeling that way. But this year he has been bullied and picked on unmercifully and the school's letting it go on. The week before last one boy made a comment to insinuate that Andrew was gay. The teacher heard it and told the boy that he would be getting ISS or OSS for the comment. Nothing was done. DH talked to the principal about it and she said that she didn't want to punish the boy because he would know that the punishment stemmed from DS and may cause problems for DS. Well, duh, it stemmed from DS because the boy made a totally inappropriate comment. How else is the boy to learn you can't do that!?!?

WOW!! I can't believe the schools not doing anything about what he's going through!!! If not hing happens with the principal I would take it to the superintendent, something has to be done!!

I am not saying this is right or should be done...but when I was a kid (boy, do I sound really old ;) ) the nuns would give us the ruler or do some other kind of torture when we got in trouble...and boy did we know they meant business...and then, when I got home, I got it again from my Mom and then from my Dad when he got home...it was a triple whammy! nowadays, it seems like there aren't any consequences for the instigators (sp?)

I talked with the wife of one of the school board members about a week and a half ago. Their daughter is a teacher at the boys' school. She said to call her husband if anything else came up, which I may do tomorrow depending on if anything happens. From there, I'll go to the superintendent.

Here's another little note about school...Andrew got his name on the "Principal's 100 list" today. It's a board at school that the kids get their names put on when they do something "exceptional." This is the third time this grading period (9 weeks) that he's gotten his name up there. So that pretty much says he's a pretty good kid. He got his name up there today because yesterday on the way home from school the chains slipped off the bus. Our neighbor was behind the bus and behind him was the father of one of Andrew's friends. Both men came up to the bus to help. The bus driver let Andrew and his friend off the bus to help. When Andrew got home he was soaked to the skin from laying on the road...in the snow...under the bus, to help put chains on. WHAT KIND OF SCHOOL ALLOWS A STUDENT TO BE IN THAT TYPE OF DANGEROUS SITUATION! It was a blinding snow. The bus driver did say that she made sure that Andrew and his friend stayed on the passenger side of the bus so they weren't near oncoming traffic. DH about had a fit but I didn't want to cause any problems because the bus driver is a friend and has a daughter in Andrew's class. I did talk to her about it last night and she said that in hindsight she realized it wasn't the smartest move.

Well, the rulers are definitely out now! I remember those days too! Nowadays the most they do here is ISS (in-school suspension) or OSS (out-of-school suspension). The problem is that half the time whatever the school does ends there. The parents don't care, or are blind to the fact that their kid could ever do anything wrong. If our kids get in trouble at school (which they do, because they're not perfect and I'm not dumb enough to think that they are :lmao: ) then we also deal with the situation at home.

Prime example - the situation where the boy insinuated that DS was gay...the teacher made a comment to another teacher right in front of DS and said something to the effect of it's no use calling his mom 'cause she won't do anything about it!

that is wonderful that he wanted to help, but I would have been upset if that happened too....I hope that this gets resolved soon...that sucks that the school has allowed the harrassment to take place this long :grouphug:

I hear my dogs chasing something...I bet it is a deer. I told DH to check, he looked out the window and went running for his binoculars  yeah, he is sick alright ;) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

that is the sadest part....when noone cares at home. DH's cousin left teaching after 20+ years of being a great, caring teacher and coach...he still wanted to help the kids, but I think he was tired of the parents (he usually taught troubled kids/high school) I think the final straw was when parents would show up to the teacher meetings high :sad2: He now owns his own company...and some of his workers are former students that are adults. He makes them work really hard...and yet the young men want to work for him. I think he is still helping...one kid at a time :cheer2:
