Has anyone ever booked a WDW resort at the last minute (not walk in) and get a great rate? I'm mainly concerned about summer bookings.

Nope, when we added days at the beginning we paid rack rate. Unless you get something with a discount tied to it like AA or AP (and still is available), you'll pay rack rate.
