I just found out that my sister's fiancee has his kids this Christmas. Now these kids have been through a lot over the past year (parents divorce, their dad getting remarried and a new baby on the way) and they have been pretty much put on the back burner. We are celebrating Christmas all together. My niece (sister's DD from her first marriage) is the princess of the family and she will be given gifts accordingly...right in front of the other kids. I want to give the other kids a gift so they are not left out (yes their dad will give them gifts but nothing that compares to the gifts DN will get from grandparents). There is a little boy that is 3 and a little girl that is 6. I want to get them something nice but budget friendly. Since I don't know them that well and what they have or what they are getting it needs to be something more universal (if that makes sense)

Girl:
Pillow pet
Doll
Barbie
Scrapbook kit
Rainbow in my room
Board game
Books

Boy
Pillow pet
Books
Dinosaurs
Moon in my room
Ants in the pants game
Cars

I second the Moon in my Room and Rainbow in My Room. We got the Moon for DS recently and it is SO cool, and I hadn't seen it around too much before we bought it, so odds are it won't be a double of something they already get.

How sweet of you to want to do this! :goodvibes

For 6 yo, maybe some games? Target usually has fun games for around $15, I know the Hedbandz game is very popular this Christmas. Also, a Barbie and some dresses and accessories. You can even get some inexpensive Barbie accessories at the Dollar Tree.

For the 3 yo, blocks sets, puzzle, games, Legos (the toddler kind), balls, train set, etc.

Have fun looking for some thoughtful, budget gifts. It's very sweet that you want to make sure they feel included!

you're saying that these kids are soon going to be siblings? Your parents are going to spoil the one child that is theirs by blood but not the other two? (Maybe I misunderstood..) and I realize that you didn't know until right now that this was going to happen, but..

Anyhow, this seems like a very rough way for the new kids to be welcomed into the family. Is there anyway DN can open the majority of the gifts another time?

For the 6yr old I would do a big box of art supplies.. you can get tons of fun stuff at the Dollar Tree. Maybe a Barbie and some clothes.

The little guy is probably into any kind of truck or ball.. my son always loved matchbox cars.

Good luck.. blended families can be tough. It's nice of you to try to help.

I do not have any super suggestions but I just wanted to say that I think it is awesome you thought of the other children as well :)

Boy 3
Trains
Cars

Girl
Arts & Crafts
Play Doh
Disney Princess things

What you are doing is so nice, and a great way to make them feel welcomed into your family!

I love the suggestions you have received so far, but wanted to extend the idea:

if you chose something like the art supplies or barbie/clothes for the girl and cars/trains for the boy...you could get each a basket/tub/box from dollar tree, and then wrap each thing and put it in the box. Not only would they have a nice storage container, but it would make it seem like a load of gifts, too, not just one item. Like a pp said, you can get most of the things at the dollar store, so it wouldn't cost a fortune.

Thank you for all the great sugestions. My parents are getting them something (like I already had these in my closet gifts) but no one (not even my kids) gets presents showered on them like my DN. My kids are used to it and don't really care. They get presents from us and know Christmas is about more than gifts. But they also don't have the same problem and being the "red headed step-child". My husband was treated that way his whole life and it has affects him still. I just want these kids to feel like they are welcomed into this family. Their dad and mom both have new relationships and there are other kids (their mom's new boyfriend has kids) that all seem to come before these two.
