Las Vegas Shooting

Is it a crime to own 43 guns, not really, I do not see how the girlfriend would have anything to worry about legally.

After reading where the gunman was shooting from, when watching the posted videos of this happening, I specifically look for “light flashes” of the firing weapon where the gunman room was located & I didn’t see any. I was puzzled by it a bit.
I've done the same thing multiple times and still don't see any. I'm attributing it to the videos being shaky and you don't really have a lot of time to focus on the flashes. That's my theory at least.

Did you read the link you posted? Because it says right in the story investigators have talked to her and don't believe she is involved "at this time".

Yep I read the most recent link that I posted and see that. But the previous article I quoted from on Fox News stated they wanted to talk to her soon.

I know I feel this way when I'm on vacation too, but people have lives they have to get back to. Jobs, bills to pay, things to do, etc. How long can she stay away? It's not like people are going to forget....

ETA not saying she's on vacation, necessarily, I don't know where she is or what she's doing, just saying that's how I feel sometimes.

I read somewhere that she's in the Philippines. If that's true, she may have family there. She may even have citizenship there, if it's her home country.

Hopefully, where ever she is, she's safe and surrounded by friends.

I'd like to point out that's why the media mentions the name.

And that's true.

But it's not that I really want to know more about him on a personal level, it's more that I want to know his motive. Because, at it is, it just makes no sense to me.

Did anyone notice the part that said he wired her $100,000?? I would think there would be questions about that.

If she was involved in that she deserves to be locked up for being stupid. Its like they think no one would find out

See now that didn't raise flags with me because she WAS visiting family and maybe that money was for her and her family. And he was a wealthy man from what I've read.

I'm thinking THIS: since he was well prepared.

Even IF he wired her money, that doesn't mean she was involved. People who are suicidal often dispose of their assets.

It's highly unlikely he said, "Hey honey, I'm off to murder a bunch of people! Don't tell anyone and make sure you leave the country before I start shooting," and she went, "Okay, sweetie, have a nice time!"

People are going to be looking for a scapegoat, and someone to hang the blame on. She'd be wise to keep her head down and lawyer up.

We stayed at Zcirvus Circus last month and didn’t see any of that, I saw no security and there was no keys required to use the lifts.
We're at the Hilton Grand Vacations on Paradise (the street behind the strip but also close to Circus Circus for a reference point) and for us if we want to go to a floor we have to use our room key in the elevator. To go to the lobby however you do not.

This was posted on Reddit, yesterday, and gives a pretty good account of how the hotel security works (and I'm really impressed at how quickly and thoroughly they locked down):

User stromm:

"I'm there now. As in, in the hotel. Checked in not 20 minutes before the shooting started.

Was looking out my window when I heard the gunfire and saw the flashing. My first thought was "huh, that's gunfire". I've seen it and heard it many times. Then a pause and my brain was saying "nah, too many rounds, must be construction". Then more gunfire. Pause, more. Pause. More. Pause. More... for a good two minutes.

At that point I'm convinced it's a jackhammer. I'm thinking "crap, who's doing work this late. Well, off to get food".

Elevators weren't working not two minutes after I heard the gunfire. Buttons didn't even light up. After about five minutes, I tried three stairway doors. Keycard didn't work. Now I'm thinking something is up. Tried the hallway phone and waited on hold for ten minutes. Went back to my room and heard the helicopters. Looked out at a road full of red and blue flashers.

Oh. Those were gunshots! Turned on TV... yep. Wait, FROM the Mandalay...

About that time I heard a maintenance guy in the hallway telling his wife he's safe and on floor (mine) and that someone on 32 blew out their window and was spraying down into the concert crowd. He saw me and said to get back in my room. Confirmed hotel is in total lockdown.

Just a few minutes ago, the cops swept through the floor. You could hear their radios. Must have been three. They stopped at my door, banged on it, announced it was the police, said they heard the TV and asked my name. I gave it, didn't open the door. I heard one of the others say "confirmed" and they banged on the door across the hall, did the same, got their name and moved on.

That surprised me. It was a good hour after the gunfire.

Even most of the cruisers had moved on by then. Copters are a few streets over.

I wonder if the NetApp Insight conference is on for this morning..."

Do you have a link? I've read a number of stories that said he wired money to the Philippines but none that specified where it went.

But like another poster said that may or may not be a big deal. If he really was a multi-millionaire like it has been rumored and she was visiting family it may not be abnormal depending on what the intended purpose was for the money. He was rumored to spend purchase $10,000 a day in chips when visiting casinos. So $100,000 may have been a blip on her radar.

The big, unanswered elephant in the room is why this particular person did what he did.

And the only things we are hearing at this point are the same old narratives that almost always come up in these situations: he was "just a regular guy" who generally “kept to himself” and no one in his family, none of his friends, nor anyone in his neighborhood had any idea at all that he was a raging psychopath.

Yep, this guy had somehow accumulated an arsenal roughly equivalent to that of the Bulgarian Army, was carrying what he needed to make a huge fertilizer bomb in his car and spent four days carting firearms and ammunition into his comped suite at the Mandalay Bay.

But nobody at all had any idea that he was up to something. :sad2:

ETA: I think it just says he wired money to an account in his girlfriend's home country, but they haven't specified where exactly or for what, but I am sure they will find out.

A friend posted a link to an article regarding the media & their coverage of mass shooting incidents. I wish I had bookmarked the article, so I could link it. The premise of the article was that the media gives too much attention to the shooter. One trait all these shooters have in common is that they're narcissists. And, if the media would stop giving them attention, these type shootings would decrease exponentially within 2 years....
...it's kind of ironic that just hours before this horrid, senseless crime was committed, I happened to be watching a new documentary series that's out, Active Shooter: America Under Fire on Showtime, and a couple featured, who had lost their son to the shooter of the Denver movie theater shooting, are pushing for news networks to only reveal a shooter's name ONCE, and refer to them as "terrorist", or "shooter", or "perpetrator", or whatever, because of what you outlined....

That's actually not hard to believe if you think about it.
1) You're assuming someone saw the multiple weapons he had in the room. I read somewhere there were 10 suitcases in the room. It's not unbelievable to think he put the weapons in suitcases and took them a couple at a time to the room. Do you realize how busy the Vegas hotels are? He could even stagger what time of day he brought things in and I bet you employees wouldn't notice a thing.
2) Unless someone got a whiff of the fertilizer, why would anyone know what was in the car?

I hope you're not suggesting hotels should have the right to examine suitcases and vehicles.

It's not hard to plan how to attack somewhere. It's not difficult to execute it. What would be difficult is not getting caught after.
