My fiancé and I are going to Vegas the week after Thanksgiving. He has a conference and I'm tagging along. This is my first time to Vegas. Here's the stupid question...he will have to be at the conference a couple hours a day - is there "enough" for me to do by myself? Is it safe for me to be alone and sightsee?

We are staying at Caesar's Palace. I know there's shopping there and shows of course.

Any help is appreciated and suggestions :)

There is more than plenty to do. I feel safe when I am out alone. So many hotels to see.

You can use these to get discounts for stuff in town.

I love the Bellagio, it has a huge chocolate fountain, with a bakery. The conservatory is always picture worthy. Make sure to wear comfy shoes. Nothing is close. I usually by the day pass for the duece bus up and down the strip. Ask away:thumbsup2

Yes, it's safe.

You'll be right next to the Mirage which has a dolphin exhibit and (I think) still has a white tiger exhibit.

The Venetian is across and up the street; very interesting to see.

As mentioned, the Bellagio is cool.

The big observation wheel is across the street.

There's plenty to do within walking distance of Caesars.

Before we started diving, Vegas was our go to vacation. Honey could gamble and I could shop. We always stayed in the Rio, which is just off the strip. It is owned by the same group/person/people who/that own MGM Grand (or was then, I'm not sure about now) so they offered a shuttle from the Rio to MGM. From there I would walk up and down the strip, visiting the hotels and shopping and just looking. Sort of like resort hopping in Disney terms. I never felt unsafe and had a great time.

If it's warm enough to swim, the pools at Caesar's are great too! There's the Forum connected to Caesars which has some higher end shopping. You can also easily walk down to Planet Hollywood which has even more shopping at Miracle Mile. Fashion Show Mall is a little bit further up - still walking distance, IMO. As a female, I would feel safe walking around during the day for sure.

I think you'll feel quite reasonably safe right on the strip, and have plenty to do as well. In addition to the Forum Shops at Caesar's there is plenty of close shopping at Venetian/Palazzo and Wynn/Encore right across the street and the Fashion Show Mall a bit north of Treasure Island, which is also north of Caesar's. There are several great spas in many of the hotels, including Caesar's if that appeals to you. You might also want to check into the free rehearsal viewing offered some afternoons by Mystere at Treasure Island or Ka at the MGM.

MGM is quite a distance south across the street from Caesar's, but you can shorten the walk by using several of the free trams within the hotels from Bellagio to Monte Carlo on that side of the street, or the paid monorail which runs behind the hotels on the opposite side of the street. No matter how you slice it Vegas is a lot of walking, so bring good footwear, and options.

Uber and Lyft are great options for getting around and could also take you to the north or south outlets for shopping as well. I advise spending some time on the Trip Advisor discussion forums for lots of good info, including free performances you could catch in some of the hotels during the afternoons. Many of the hotels offer free instruction in playing blackjack or craps if you're unfamiliar and would like to spend some time learning what those are about.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm excited to go but have had some people saying "a whole week - what are you going to do" and, so, was second guessing. I'm going to look all this info up later.

Thanks again! :wave2:

People always say that.
For about 4 years I went for Las Vegas for 10 days to two weeks each year. My dh had a conference there and he had to be there before it started so I tagged along.
There is an art gallery at the Bellagio. You can see what's showing online at the Bellagio site. The conservatory there changes with the seasons, it's always beautiful. Bellagio also has a very nice coffee shop and their breakfast is wonderful. Another really nice thing to do is the afternoon tea at the Petrossian Bar just off the lobby. It's a little pricy, but so lovely.

I also recommend the coffee shop in the Wynn for a nice solo breakfast or lunch.
Sometimes I'd walk quite aways one direction and then take a cab back.
Most of the hotels are fun to walk through, and I used to enjoy reading menus of the various restaurants.
Have fun exploring!

I agree with the others, plenty to do! In addition to what was already suggested, I can add:

Pick up the booklets for coupons/calendar that are all around. Look for the free gaming lessons offered at the various casinos. They like to get people in there during the day. They'll offer lessons in all the different table games at various times, then open a table (or a few) with a very low limit to be able to practice.

Caesar's has a beautiful spa, and you should be able to purchase a day pass as a hotel guest. They're usually around $25. You have full access to the pool and steamrooms, etc. You can, but don't have to, purchase a spa treatment. I find it plenty to just enjoy the amenities included in the day passes.

Caesar's has it's own shopping mall inside of it, and there's a shopping promenade at The Linq. (There are others I'm sure!)

There's a bus and a trolley that run the strip. You can pay for a daily/weekly pass I think.

You can do an 'excursion' (like you do in port on a cruise ship) from Las Vegas. They offer day bus trips to Hoover Dam, Red Rock, etc.

Have fun!

Your welcome. The stratsosphere is neat to watch the rides up top. You can find a coupon for the eiffel tower. The M&M store I love, as well as the Coca Cola store. The Venetian has the Gondola ride inside and out. Planet Hollywood also has a Earl of Sandwich as well. Take camera as there are many picture worthy things.

There is the Mob Museum downtown.. I don't know if you are into that but I loved it. Freemont has the light show in the evening. Also a Zipline. I can't wait to go back.

In case you happen to be unaware, November probably won't be pool weather. Although you may be able to sit out in the sunshine near the pool and read if that's appealing to you. I would love that opportunity myself.

We wanted to go to the Mob Museum when we were there but run out of time, so that's another option.

People watching is also awesome on the strip.

I never felt unsafe in Vegas, actually I felt safer there than in Venice beach and parts of San Francisco :scared1:

Have a terrific trip :)

I am in Vegas right now. You will be perfectly fine. Lots to do (especially if you like to shop). It is hotter than the face of the sun here today, but it should be nice when you go in November. There are many great restaurants, but nothing is cheap here. I have been to Las Vegas many, many times in my life, but my last trip was ten years ago. I don't remember it being quite this expensive. For example, my son and I had breakfast this morning at The Pantry (casual 24 hour restaurant) in the Mirage. I had one scrambled egg with toast and he had a yogurt parfait and we both had coffee. It was $36 with the tip.

If have any questions while I am here, I will try to answer.

Have fun!

I love Vegas, and Caesars is my favorite resort. Do you know what room type you're booked under?
Vegas is good for a sleep-in, leisurely wake up, take your time kind of vacation. (Aka, the opposite of Disney.) For a first visit, I recommend your first day just walk out the front door of Caesars, turn left or right and walk as far as you'd like to go, stopping in each hotel as you go. The next day, turn in the opposite direction and repeat. After a few days, you'll know which hotels you want to further explore or revist. From the hokey like Excalibur to the beautiful like the Wynn, the hotels are really destinations in themselves and fun just to walk around and admire and explore.
The Cosmopolitan is really fun; very girly and they have a daily (or maybe M-F) "social hour" during which the bars and lounges offer good drink and food specials. The Chandelier Bar is gorgeous and the bartenders make amazing cocktails. Food and booze in Vegas are crazy expensive, so budget wisely! One of my favorite meals ever was the weekend brunch at Bacchanal, the buffet at Caesars. YUM!! STACK right next door at the Mirage is also delicious.
Obviously the Fountains at the Bellagio are a can't miss, especially at night. For a steakhouse/bistro option that's cheaper than many other Vegas steakhouses, check into Mon Ami Gabi, which is at the Paris across from the Bellagio and has a great patio with beautiful views of the Fountains.

Yes, it's safe.

You'll be right next to the Mirage which has a dolphin exhibit and (I think) still has a white tiger exhibit.

There used to be a free white tiger exhibit by the main casino floor. I took my kid to the paid exhibit in the back, which has the dolphins, lions, and tigers. It was maybe $20 when I visited in 2012.

If you can be out for the day (maybe even overnight) you could drive to Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon. Perhaps Valley of Fire? Death Valley is pretty popular that time of year. The weather is certainly easier around Thanksgiving.

Omg, you guys are awesome :flower3:

A couple more questions:

I'm assuming casual attire during the day? What's the weather like in November? Shorts? Yoga pants? Capris? Would any of that be acceptable for the sightseeing/wandering into other hotels? If I stop for a drink at a bar by myself is this ok attire?

I like to shop so all the shopping areas are a plus even if I'm just looking.

The Mob Museum sounds fun and I think I will do as klacey1 says...walk down the street till I want to stop but I also want to have "options".

I love to people watch so are there places (coffee shops maybe) where I can grab a drink and stay awhile?

I'll have to ask what room category we have but it gives us access (?) to the one pool area :confused3

Once again, thank you all so much!!

There are two shopping outlets, North and South a short bus ride away from midstrip (which is where we stayed).

Plenty of places to sit and people watch, either in cafes/bars or just on the strip.

You're going to have a load of fun :)
