Hi.
I am thinking about booking Vegas for three nights in November for my dh's
50th birthday. We would be traveling with another couple if we go.

Where would I find the best place to book hotel and/or hotel/air.
We would be flying from EWR and I can only handle non-stop flights.

Also, I could exchange my timeshare for a few nights and get to name a few,
Grandview, Tahiti Village and Wyndham.

Thinking if we have never been and only there for really 2 full days (coming in late on the first night and leaving early on the last day) we would want to be on the strip.

Where is good and where should I book?

Thank you.

For a nonstop flight, pretty much your only option is United. If you're willing to connect in Phoenix, that would also open up US Air.

I have friends who love timeshares in Vegas. They cook, they lounge by the smaller, less crowded pool, and they venture out once per day to Fremont, outlets, maybe the strip. Personally, that's not how I like to do Vegas. I'd rather stay in a casino, gamble downstairs a little bit at a time and budget for a buffet and a restaurant I want to try.

You should decide what shows if any you want to see and if there are anything restaurants you want to try, like Emeril's or Craftsteak. Also, do you already belong to one of the rewards programs? Then decide where you will stay based on what activites you want to do.

I posted this in another thread, so maybe it will be of help to you :)

ROOM
I have ALWAYS stayed at the Golden Nugget downtown and LOVED it. They frequently have good deals on rooms. We have stayed there with an upgraded room with a coupon book AND free tickets to their house show (Gordie Brown) and the room rate was around $40/night. Yes, I said $40. You may think, "eww, what kind of No-tell Motel is that?" but I swear it isnt. It is a really nice place. I absolutely love walking around down there at night with a cold drink in one hand and some unhealthy snack from Mermaids in the other and watching the Fremont Street Experience. It isn't as wild to me as the Strip.

FOOD
---Mermaids downtown has a snack bar in the back. THe casino may not be the best to look at, but the snack bar has great unhealthy bar food like fried oreos, the big fat green hot dog, chocolate covered frozen bananas, etc

---DuPar's at Golden Gate downtown has the BEST shrimp cocktail ever. Last time I was there I wanted a slice of apple pie and they asked if I wanted cheese on it. I thought I was losing my mind, but the waitress explained it was the new thing--apple pie with a slice of sharp cheddar melted on top. I tried it and it was aMAZing. You taste the nuttiness of the cheese mixed with the apples.

---The dinner buffet at Paris is my absolute favorite. Crepes, duck, best gouda cheese ever, prime rib, etc etc.

---Mr. Lucky's 24/7 at the Hard Rock Casino (it is NOT walking distance from the strip)....NOT the Hard Rock Cafe, it is INSIDE the casino. Ask for the Gambler's special. It's a steak, 3 shrimp, potato, carrots and was sooo yummy.

---Serendipity 3 down by Caesar's on the Strip. People go there for the frozen hot chocolate which is AMAZING on a hot day. We also got a burger and buffalo strips to share and those were good too.

---I will try to remember where that Hangover Burger is from. I KNOW it is downtown, but I can't remember the casino name off the top of my head. It's a tiny dive looking cafe in the middle.

Stuff to Do
-do the touristy stuff...Bellagio fountains (free), Mirage volcano (free), Eiffel Tower elevator ride (not free), Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum (not free)

-See the Mob Museum (not free) it will help you learn the history of Vegas
-See the garden/floral exhibit at the Bellagio and the Chihuly ceiling
-Take in a show (I wish you could see Phantom at the Venetian, but it closed
-if you drink, be a fool and get one of the tacky souvenir glasses...(guitar, football, Margaritaville pitcher, chalice, etc)
-see the lights at night and the Vegas sign
-go to Bonanza and see all the CRAZY souvenirs and gifts
-DO NOT TAKE CARDS FROM THE SMUT PEDDLERS ON THE STREET (however, to shock my grandmothers I DID buy a shirt like they wear at Bonanza that says something about live girls direct to you and has a sillhoutte of an exotic dancer)
-be sure to get you the discount/coupon books. I usually find them in the taxi I know one is called What's On and you can also find it online. I had 2 for 1 ticket coupon for the Eiffel Tower from there.

TIPS
-If you are not used to the dry climate, be sure to take lots of water, lotion and chapstick.
-like with Disney, there is a LOT of walking involved here if you plan to walk all of the strip and downtown
-if you see food or drink that looks interesting, TRY it
-if you see a neat attraction, DO it
-you dont have to spend all day gambling

If you have ANY questions, feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer.

My DH have done this with just 2 full days but we had been to Vegas before. We stayed at Tahiti Village and I wouldn't recommend it. It is far from the strip and would require a lot of your time being spent traveling especially with the traffic.

I recommend staying on the strip.

Although I like to relax on vacation, if we go to Vegas for 3 nights/2 full days, I want to burn the candle at both ends and keep going! Yes, I have been on the computer for hours and see United is my option. Thank you very much.

This is excellent. Thank you. I am printing this informaiton and putting with my little file. Thank you very much I really appeciate your taking the time to answer me.

Thank you for the information about Tahiti Village. I think I need to stay on the strip as you suggested, that is what I need to do with my limited amount of time.

Right now I see Mandalay bay at a little over $300+ for a total for my three nights. Has anyone stayed here. It looks like good reviews on tripadvisor. I think this is the place where my sister had her second wedding, have to ask her too.

Thank you ve

Mandaly Bay is a beautiful hotel with a ton of amenities and a great casino. I'd definitely recommend it!

Hi.
I am thinking about booking Vegas for three nights in November for my dh's
50th birthday. We would be traveling with another couple if we go.

budget rule #1 is to avoid friday and saturday night stays. prices go up considerably on those nights so i'd start there if at all possible.

i'd recommend staying somewhere like bally's or paris or planet hollywood towards the middle of the strip. then pick one day and wander north and one day and wander south.

watch out for resorts with resort fees. they are increasingly common in vegas.

november should be nice weather.

if you want to see a show or 2, these guys often have good deals the morning of the show:

If you are only staying three nights (two full days), I would definitely stay on the Strip (something centrally located) like Bellagio, Paris, Planet Hollywood, Caesar's. If you are on a tighter budget, maybe Flamingo, Harrah's or Bally's. Like someone else suggested - one day head south and the other head north.

Make sure you take your most comfortable shoes because you will walk, walk, walk while in Vegas. Two days will go fast. I would see a Cirque show. I like Mystere best, but they are all entertaining. I have seen Mystere, "O", and LOVE all more than once. I have also seen Ka!, which was entertaining, but is not my favorite. If you like to shop, you will be in heaven in Las Vegas. Lots of good restaurants, too. Your time will go fast. I think Vegas is a great way to celebrate a 50th birthday. Have fun. The weather should be very nice in November.

Oh, and I agree with a PP, stay mid-week if you can - rooms are much more affordable during the week. I don't think you can avoid the resort fees in Vegas. Most of the hotels have them now - ranging from about $18-$28 per night depending on the hotel you choose. It is just part of the cost of going to Vegas (unfortunately).

Thank you all. Have to go Thursday through Monday since In have a son that will be a junior in HS and home and my dh wont want to miss work. Ill have to have my son sleep at my moms or vice versa or inlaws.

If our friends cant go and they will let me know this week, Im going to book the Gem for 2 night since want to do Vegas with friends.

Is Mandalay in an okay location strip wise?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Mandalay Bay is lovely (I have stayed there several times) but, in my opinion, the location is not the best. I prefer something Center Strip, like Bellagio. If you were staying longer, it might not be a problem, but with only two full days, I would recommend something more centrally located on the strip.
