"However, Disney quietly increased fountain and bottled beverage prices at its theme parks -- something that will nickel and dime the pocketbooks of many if not most of its park guests. Soft drinks went from $2.99 to $3.29, a 10% uptick. Bottled water went from $2.75 to $3.00, a 9% increase. In a move that will incense parents, Disney saved most of its larger increases for kid-friendly beverages, including juices and milk. Bottled apple juice prices rose 18%, with milk prices up a whopping 35%."

First time fountain drinks had gone up in 5years now... And Disney reported this last week.
I'm surprised it took them 5 years.

Also with the price increases has anyone here been to a sporting event within the last maybe 5 years? $3+ water and $4+ soda and $7+ beer is nothing new or unheard of.

Not trying to argue here, but I think this is a bit different. Go to a sporting event and you are only subjected to those high prices for a couple hours. Unless you are a Florida local resident, folks that go to WDW are "captives" for days. To me, that's a big difference.

Except you can bring your own beverages in the park if needed.

Captive.....

It's not a matter of "a reasonable increase" in one product.

It's the aggregate. They are attempting to increase the price of EVERYTHING at once.

A shortsighted approach.

Many Disney defenders - bucket brigade - have similar responses: point out that "it's been awhile" and comparing Disney to the NFL.

I've yet to be at a sporting event with an average stay of 7 days...

If you find yourself making these "points"
More than 3 times...then you might be an addict.

While true you are allowed to bring in water bottles or soda into Disney parks even allowed to bring bag lunches if you want. Some sporting events don't allow that.

I think sporting events are one of the easiest things to compare to a Disney vacation though even if you're not staying at a sporting event. It's not difficult to bring in your own beverage at a Disney park. You can even get free ice water at quick service locations. I definitely understand the complaints about other price increases but there are plenty of ways to avoid paying for water and soda at Disney.

Even if you consider one day, there's a big difference between sitting on your butt for 2-3 hours at a sporting event and walking 4-8 miles on asphalt in 95 degree humid heat for 10-12 hours at Disney...in one place, you can get by with a few sips of water at a water fountain - in the other, you're gonna need 1-2 gallons of fluid replacement.

The convenience of being able to buy drinks is nice though. We travel light and don't like to bring water bottles and bags and so on. Luckily we have no issue with fountain water at the parks.

Where you from again? My SF Giants are almost double that, NASCAR too. Concert venues are just as bad.

Disneyland doesn't allow it either. No coolers or picnics, a bottle or two of water or small snacks are okay.

I'm in Wisconsin so I have the Brewers, Bucks and Packers.

I just have to say, while I'm not surprised that they raised prices, I have been to other theme parks (Cedar Fair parks/Busch Gardens), and their prices are *much* higher than at Disney for everything. Their pops/waters cost that much 3-5 years ago. I'm always baffled, and my family always says "Dang, it's not even that expensive in Disney!" That goes for food too. Just my two cents... because you can bring in beverages, drink from fountains, and get free water from QS restaurants sooo, if there is a will to not pay the prices, there's a way to avoid it.

Although I'm ambivalent to the price increases and don't really want to argue their justification, I don't think "bring your own" is a practical response for many people.

- Travelling by air with several days worth of groceries in not really doable.
- Where would people get their groceries? I'm sure there are some available on site, but I've never looked.
- Are these groceries priced reasonably? Is there a reasonable selection?
- If you didn't plan to stay in a room with a kitchen, you'll need to upgrade - which is just a different additional cost.

Also, going to a sporting event can take place between meals. You don't have that option for a multi-day Disney stay.

The only real option to combat the high prices is to just not go.

NASCAR allows drinks, beer, water, soda, etc plus any food you can fit in your cooler.. You can bring a cooler as long as it fits under your seat. Plus, parking is FREE at NASCAR.. now if you purchase from Vendors at a NASCAR race you can expect to pay typical sporting event vendor prices but for the most part, NASCAR is the cheapest of the big sporting events to attend..

I don't pay much attention to the price of soda or drinks at WDW. I typically drink water just because. I might have one soda during my entire trip.. of course the kids have soda when we sit down to eat but we have used the Dining plan on most trips.

Companies have to make money and keep shareholders happy. As long as the gates are packed, they are not gonna change their strategy to increase revenue..

There are places that deliver. And Uber is available to take you to a grocery store or Wal-Mart. In addition, many groceries are available on site.

You don't need a kitchen to eat yogurt or cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and dinner or to keep soda and water cold. You simply need a fridge, which you can get at Disney.

But of course there is always the option of simply not going. That is what I do for professional sports. It just isn't worth the cost.

Garden grocer is more $$ than a regular grocery store but we use them for bottled water and other perishables. Amazon delivers and we get the nukeable Mac n cheese in a cup saving us a lunch or dinner here or there.

There's always the refillable cups at the resorts-- tho we have never purchased. I rarely buy water or beverages at a Disney park, unless desperate.
