Large Group, Two Annual Passholders

My boyfriend and I have lots of experience with Disney World but we are planning our first ever large group trip. We are going with his family - 12 people in total (10 adults and 2 kids ages 8 and 9).

We have been weighing our options and it looks like economically four rooms at a value will be our best bet. He and I will likely be sharing a room with two other family members. We would be doing a package including tickets and dining and I know that everyone in a room needs to have the same tickets/dining. How does that work if we have annual passes and don't need the tickets?

Don’t book complete packages for your group.

Book room + dining packages. Then, purchase tickets from ticket discounters for those who need tickets.

Then you’ll end up with tickets that can be used in the future or their value can be applied towards AP renewals.

I was told when I booked a room + tickets + dining package to just call back when/if I bought an AP, and my ticket would be taken off. I just bought the AP two days ago and have yet to call. So we'll see.

Get the real numbers. I recently did a combo - I used my passholder room discount - and we added dining to everyone. But the rest of the group - without annual passes - did Tickets at Work - and that was the cheapest way to do this all. I wasn't going to pay for MORE ticket for the future at the moment - because I didn't want to spend more money now just to hold for later value towards tickets in the future. Disney almost always sets up the specials that you are really only going to get ONE type of discount benefit......

Usually packages are only required for free dining type promotions and there you pay rack rate for the room. Room discounts typically don’t require a ticket and you get the same price whether or not you purchase ticket through Disney. Plus if you have a room only booking, you may be able to switch it to an AP discounted room if discounts are released in the future for your room type.

The only package discount that requires tickets is free dining or stay, play, dine. You can also apply room only discounts to package reservations. When discounts are released, I would do the math on all options to see which offers the best discount. For our family, AP or room only discounts have always priced out better than free dining discounts.
