Laptops in resorts?

HI we are staying at Movies in October and are debating whether or not to bring our Apple Power Book. I know the safes aren't big enough. We could hide it in our suitcases but it is obviously so expensive.

Has anyone ever put laptop at front desk in safe?

When I was down last year, I had just bought a new IBM Think Pad before I left, (about a $3,000 laptop) and just left it out on the desk. Now I'm thinking I should have packed it up! Ohh well, I still have, so thats all that matters. If you feel it would be safe to put it away, I would say put it in the house safe.

Buy the cable that you can attach to your laptop and then around something in the room. I always lock my laptop down wherever I go. If the laptop is stolen the Insurance company wants to know what you did to prevent the theft so don't just leave it sitting out.

safetymom, thats a good idea! I never even thought of using the safty cable. I'll have to go out and buy one for next time. I'm gald nobody stole it!

What I did during my stay at movies last Nov. was Locked my laptop case put case inside my Dh's small suitcase, locked his suitcase, put his suitcase inside my suitcase and locked my suitcase and carried keys with me.

Except that they could walk with the suitcase and no one would be the wiser.

My DH has to bring the laptop for work with us. We have two DD (4 and 20 months) so after they fall asleep, he checks his email.

We do what Fire14 does. We lock it in the suitcase. I am not too worried about it. Once I accidently left money on the night sand, less then $10 in bills and change. When we got back, it was still there. I guess I should be more realistic, but I just get the feeling it's safe there.

I also use a cable lock. I got mine at Best Buy. Make sure your laptop has a lock slot on the side. When we stay at a DVC 1 bedroom, I loop the cable around the end table leg in the living room, there's a cross bar in the middle.

I leave my laptop set up and running while I'm at WDW and have never had a problem.

I always bring my laptop wherever I travel and it is always ok. I am sure to point out to the housekeeper that it is there and show it to them, and then ask if it is safe to leave it there. That way, they know that I know that they know about it, but also I think they are more careful when the door is open not to leave the room unattended. My most recent trip was in New York city and I still have my laptop. I guess someone could take it, but it has never happened in three years. If it does, I am ready for a new one anyway, ha ha!

We'll be staying at OKW for 2 weeks in January with our laptop. We've stayed in several places around the US and I guess we have never thought about someone ripping it off. Should we be concerned there at OKW?
