Are you allowed to carry on a laptop bag in addition to your carryon luggage like the airlines allow ?

Thanks !

There aren't restrictions to the number of carry-on items you are allowed to bring on the ship. Just be aware that staterooms aren't ready until 1:30 and you will have to keep your carryons with you until then.

Also for your final breakfast.... don't be surprised if they ask you to leave your carry-ons at the door to minimize restaurant aisle congestion.

Which port was that sign posted and when? Whether or not they enforced it is important also. Of course the sign saying no alcoholic beverages allowed was posted at PC for 10+ years and that has never been enforced. The cooler mention just started to be applied about a year ago.

just curious...why would you bring a laptop on the cruise? I look forward to complete disconnect but you have reasons I can't think of...

thanx

From my own situation, cruises are often part of a longer vacation. Many people bring computers on trips with them for a variety of reasons.

Not the OP, but if I didn't bring a laptop on board (or on any vacation) and answer email before my wife and daughter woke up and after they went to sleep, I would never be able to travel. The lives and businesses of my clients and superiors don't stop because I want to get away, so they need me to stay connected.

It sucks, but since the alternative is unemployment (in which case, I won't be taking my family on 'any' vacations), I do what I have to do.

You can read on it. You can write with it. You can watch movies on it. You can play music from it. You want to use it on travel to/from the ship. Upload pictures throughout your trip.

The reasons someone may have their laptop are quite numerous.

In addition to the things LSUfan mentioned, email is a less expensive way than phone calls to keep in touch with family members, friends, and coworkers not on the cruise with you. I know many people are fine emailing from a smartphone or tablet, but some people don't have either (like my parents) or prefer the full-size keyboard of a laptop for writing (like me). I'm bringing my niece along on our cruise and am betting that my brother and his wife will be wanting to keep some tabs on how things are going. Since I'll already want my laptop for storing photos during the trip and watching videos on the plane on the way there and back, I might as well plan on using the laptop for email as well.

as someone who travels with multiple memory cards for my camera, it never dawned on me to download/upload photos...

i will make due with the available music...my phone has music on it, btw

my business understands that I am on vacation...luckily,my clients can wait..they will be attended to by my minions until then

luckily, outside of emergencies, my family understands that as well

i'm not knockin' people bringing whatever they want...makes no nevermind to me....i just want to carry as little as possible and not have to worry about damage to my electronics...

just curios, that's all....:thumbsup2

Does this mean that, if you arrive after 1:30 pm and if you would like, you could roll all your luggage aboard when you board?

This sign is at Port Canaveral, posted on the outside of the terminal building. The picture was taken last month.

That used to be me too....then, I ended up with one corrupted memory card and one that was stolen the same time my camera was. One entire trip with no pictures. Now, it's one memory card and an external hard drive. Each night or morning the photos are then moved to the external hard drive and on the hard drive of the computer.

Alot of people have music playing capabilities on their phone or ipods now, and there are alot of other additional pieces you can buy to amplify the music as well. But, I use my laptop to play music while we're getting dressed. As I sit on my balcony and eat breakfast in the morning, etc. I don't want earphones in case I am being called from someone in the room for example.

Nobody is trying to convince you that you should or need to bring one, but the reasons one might choose to do so are very plausible and numerous.

Only if your luggage is carry-on sized. It must fit through the scanners, similar to an airport. Anything larger must still be checked with the porters curbside. If you board after 1:30pm, you may go straight to your stateroom and drop-off any carry-on items rather than lugging them around the ship.

Enjoy your cruise!

I travel with 4 memory cards between 1 and 5 GBs. And I feel better when I have my computer. Memory cards can be lost, even when inside a little case (ask my husband how many times I've misplaced it at home...actually right now I'm not 100% sure it's in the place where it's supposed to be).

I was typing on my phone earlier so I didn't do a proper response.

I bring the laptop on trips now because DH's ipad is from work and in a sturdy case and I don't want to lose it, plus it's not actually that much lighter than my macbook. At least if I bring the laptop I'm using a proper bag for it, not just putting the ipad in my shoulder bag and killing my neck in the process.

I don't go online during cruises, but like I said before, cruises are often part of longer vacations where you might want or even need it.

For many people, it is a requirement of the job either to check email while on vacation or be able to log in if there is a work emergency. I've made decisions not to take jobs like that but a lot of jobs are like that.

I have an unlimited amount of vacation/sick time so long as I check my email once per day and respond to urgent requests. I am an independent contractor, so I do not have people to do my job for me when I am away...but it means all the money it MINE! Haha! We often travel 2-3 weeks at a time and about 3-4 months total out of the year, so its important in our situation to pack our technology with us so we can work.

We also take our laptop to save our pictures on an external hard drive and on the computer each day.

If/when we ever decide to retire, we can unplug completely...until then, we choose to bring our life on the road instead of not traveling at all. :) You should see the passport stamps in our 4 year old's passport. Its a gift we are able to give her that we were never afforded as children. Its totally okay if one hour out of hour 24 hour day, we have to work.

Last, we do not consider these trips "vacations"...as that implies relaxation. We travel. We see the world. We do not slow down. We site see. We go on cruises for the ports of call, and the ability to see a lot of places without having to pack each day. You will rarely find us just sipping a cocktail in a lounger...if ever...and thats just the way we like it.
