i'm traveling with a lap child...how does he get strapped in a seat belt during take off/landing...is he in the same seat belt as me or do i just hold him...l have never flown with children before...TIA

No seat belt. You just hold him. It would be extremely dangerous to strap a child on your lap in with your seat belt (wouldn't be long enough anyway). Don't forget to bring his birth certificate with you to the airport.

You may not put the child in the seatbelt. You hold the child.

Be sure to take PROOF the child is under two. It doesn't matter that the child looks like an 'infant' they still can and may ask for proof. Without the proof you may be charged.

Thank you...I know about the BC he'll be 21 months old when we fly...

Another great hint I heard and passed along to a few people, including one person who fly with us last year with a lap child at 14 months.

Give the child a sippy cup just before taking off; it helps with their ears and they usually fall asleep right afterwards.

I have had a few people tell me their lap child slept almost the entire two hour flight.

i'm praying he will sleep most of the time...but i do have a portable dvd player and have saved the new Doc McStuffins dvd for the trip...and tons of snacks and other things to keep him occupied...

another good thing is a dum dum lollipop for takeoff. They are small and easy to carry and deal with and he will be sitting with you anyway so you can watch for choking . Plus they are sweet and they will lick them and swallow even if being stubborn and not wanting to drink, and best of all no spilling!

My kids flew thousands of miles as lap babies. another thing is when they come thru with drinks get a plain cup of ice and another empty cup. Mine spent a loooong time just playing with the ice. taking it out of 1 cup and putting it into the other or on the tray and back and forth. If it spills or melts no harm done to person, clothes or seat, it is just clear water.

If he's not already, I would start getting him used to wearing headphones now.

Great suggestion. I found little puppy dog ones for my son and he loved them but I know other people that their child would not wear them on the plane.

I bought him a pair this weekend...he actually did pretty good with them on...:thumbsup2
