I read that a woman bought her family lanyards at walmart before they left home. Her sister bought them on the ship and paid $8 a peice. What do you need them for???

If you have no pockets it is a great way to carry your KTTW card and any other proof of ID that you may need. We always wore ours. We hung them on a hook in the room and grabbed them before we headed out the door. It makes it easier to find them. I don't think I could have found mine if I layed it down in my room. It was so messy :)

I bought the ones from Wal-Mart and the are not the most attractive things. All black with the clear plastic sleeve thingy. But they were only .97 for each. I guess you can decorate them with alot of pins. I would rather spend the extra $42.00 that I saved buying the cheap ones on something more fun. :earsboy:

Hey that was me! Thanks for reading, lol.

Husband and I carried our Keys to the world card in them. Lots of people also carried their driver's licenses for ID. I did not know if I would use them nuch, but we used them constantly b/c my cute little sundresses and swin suit, etc did not have pockets. And who wants to carry a purse?? (Remember, your room door locks every times it closes so you need to the card to open it back up. I was a little fashion conscious about it at first, but after we got on board, it was SO helpful and every one was wearing them. I wouldn't go without one. Buy one from Walmart and take it just in case, like I did. You'll be glad.

it is also great for kids cause they will always know where their keys are and when they go to the arcade room they can put theire game cards in the lanyards to.

DD bought us the box ones as "welcome to the Magic" presents when we cruised with her. I got the small box and DH (who smokes) got the large box. I wore it everytime I left the room and he did too expecially since some of this tropical shirts didn't have a pocket. I kept KTTW and driver's license in it and added some folding cash when we went on excursions.

They are currently in our "cruise drawer" ready to go with us again in January.

We bought one for DD, but received them from DVC in our rooms the second night. If I knew we were getting them we would've waited.

In defense of the "$8" ones, I am planning on buying one of those as a souvenier. I will put my Disney pins on it (right now my Disney pins are on a cheaper lanyard that is really too light weight for pin-bearing).

One of my co-workers has a DCL lanyard from her cruise, which she wears everyday with her work ID. It's cute, has the DCL 'swoosh' icon all around it.

I'd wait and buy the DCL ones. THey will be one of the least expensive souveniers you will buy on the trip. The biggest downside to waiting and getting them onboard is that you have to wait until you leave port (I don't remember how "far out" you need to be before they can open up the shops), so you won't have them from the start of your cruise.

We got the ones with the plastic sleeve for our KTTW and photo id's that work most of the time. We got the box style for when we were going to the pool or the beach so that we could keep them with us (and keep them safe).

Even the DCL lanyard is too lightweight to support more than just a few pins; and the pins tended to snag the threads on the lanyard. I looked for lanyards prior to our cruise, and couldn't find them, but I'm glad I didn't - I love having the DCL ones as a souvenir. You can also get the water bottle leashes with the DCL logo on them--they had them for sale as we left the ship for an excursion. I had to smile when I saw someone with one at our local amusement park this summer.

I was able to get the official DCL lanyards with plastic sleeve attached prior to our cruise through the WDW Merchandising number. (Sorry, don't have it handy, but it shouldn't be hard to find.) I wanted them as a surprise with trader pins attached so that my DDs could trade in the terminal even if they wanted to. Worked out great!

Carla, it sounds like that's a pin-specific lanyard??? do they sell those on the ship? Is it like a starter set, or do you mean you put on pins yourself?

If not, then in response to DenverVal....Rats!:earboy2: as to being too lightweight! (but thanks for the info!)

We are always looking for new ideas for gifts on our trips. And this one will actually have a purpose!

It was a lanyard for pins, with a detachable clear plastic sleeve that would hold the KTTW card, Driver's license, whatever you wanted. We just used them for pins without the sleeve. They're white with the DCL logo on them. The clasp at the bottom was not extraordinarly heavy-duty, but they worked fine for the 5-6 pins we had on them...
