language or a food thats distinctive to your area

lol I used to live in Quincy. Try explaining that one to people (No, it's not pronounced like that coroner on tv)

How DO you say Quincy if not like the TV coroner? And would one pronounce John Quincy Adams the same as the town?

It's pronounced Quinzee. I always pronounce John Quincy Adams the same way as the Quincy on tv, I have no idea why they say Quinzee lol.

Thanks! When I lived in Boston (from South Carolina!) I could never get PEE-bu-dy ! Never actually heard Quincy pronounced in the two years I lived there, or at least I don't remember it.

What state? I was always under the impression Quincy, IL was pronounced "Quin-see".

As far as regional foods, Chicago has plenty that are well-known: deep dish pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago style hot dogs.... Probably less well known is Chicago style thin crust pizza, cut into squares. This is the kind of pizza I grew up eating:

This is the kind of pizza served here in MN and it's my FAVORITE! Soooooo good and cheesy!

It's funny the things you learn on the DIS. I grew up in northern Wisconsin and never heard a water/drinking fountain referred to as a bubbler. Must be a southern Wisconsin thing. ;)

My college roommate was from Madison area - yep, first time I heard someone call it a bubbler!

Sammy's pizza by any chance?

No...my faves are Little Oven, Savoy and Mama's. Just perfection! I will look up Sammy's though and might have to check them out :)

ETA: The closest one to me is about 25 miles away...I will have to try it next time I am north of the cities!

I love a good 3 way! Actually, a 4 way is my personal favorite.

Ha! Yeah, I'm talking about chili. 3 way is spaghetti/chili/cheese. 4 way is spaghetti/chili/cheese/ and either beans or onions. Naturally, 5 way is all ingredients. :)

Looks crazy, and sounds worse considering the chili has cinnamon in it but it grows on you!
My parents were originally from Cincinnati, and my dad absolutely loved Skyline Chili. I love it, and now my kids love it. Their first request when we head up there this summer is lunch at Skyline.

How about the bubbler imnot sure if it's a Midwestern term or just WI. Most places call it a drinking fountain. When I was a kid we were on vacation in CO. My little brother needed a drink. So my mom asked a guy in the store if they had a bubbler talk about being looked at like you have 2heads

It's definitely localized to southwestern Wisconsin. I grew up in Milwaukee and my friends at a Michigan college gave me a pretty hard time about it. It was immensely satisfying when on a road trip with my friends to Milwaukee, we were at a mall, I marched up to an information kiosk and asked where I could find a bubbler and they knew exactly what I was talking about. I think up until that point my friends thought I was making it up!

Michigan or Minnesota?

Michigan :)
