Lands End or L.L. Bean for winter coats for the Kids?

Does anyone's children have a winter coat form L.L. Bean or Lands End?
Not sure which one to go with. TIA

I can't comment on Lands End coats, but I bought an LL Bean winter jacket when DS was 3 that made it through 5 kids and 12 years, and it was still it great shape

I too have had similar experiences with the LL Bean coats. My oldest always wore them and they have been worn by my younger sons as well and still are in great condition!

Another vote for LLBean! We bought one for DD when she was 1 or so and granted she's a peanut, but it lasted her 3 winters. And the one we bought had the option where you removed a thread and it extends the sleeves just a little bit more in case they grow.

We will be buying a new one from LLBean this year!

Both are good. I have an LL Bean coat that's 8 years old and it looks new. The darn thing will never die! My niece and nephew have had both, and played hard in them, and both have held up incredibly well. I'd go with LL Bean just because it's a Maine company and I'm a Maine girl.

Bean has done well for us I have 4 kids and have similar experience with the coats. They went through my older kids, 3 of my ex-husbands kids and now back for my small boys.

Land's End quality is absolutely just as good as LL Bean.
I've bought from both and their products are very good.
Everything from backpacks, jackets, shoes and clothing.
I buy from Lands End more because it's in my area.

I buy a lot from Lands End and have to say I have NOT been impressed with the quality of their kids' coats. I bought two kid squalls a couple of years ago and neither made it the entire season. My daughter is extremely hard on clothes, but my son is not at all. Zippers broke, tears... I just wasn't impressed and would not buy their coats from Lands End again.

But both have wonderful reputations for quality.

Go with the price or the style that suits you best. You'll be happy with your purchase either way.

If it matters, Lands End stuff can be returned at Sears in the event that you're not happy with the order.

My kids always have Lands End Jackets. However, I should probably comment that I live in the southeast so my idea of a winter jacket might be a little different from those in warmer climates. It does get below freezing sometimes here, but not much below and it doesn't stay there long. LL Bean is more expensive than Lands End so we do Lands End. Lands End has some great jacket prices at the end of winter for their clearance. (I'm an LL Bean fan too). My kids have never worn out a jacket. I have a fleece jacket from Lands End and it's held up great. I also have a fleece from LL Bean and it's also in great condition.

LLBean jackets have always seemed a bit on the warmer and more rugged side. Thats just my observations. The clothing seems more rugged too. I have boys who are very tough on their clothing. Plus we live in northern New England and warmth is a big thing.

I like Land's End swimwear and some of their other products but since being bought out by Sears I personally don't think their outerwear is as good as it used to be. But you're in NJ so perhaps "Can keep me warm when I walk a mile to class at 7 in the morning in 25 degree weather" might not be first on your criteria list.

That being said, L.L. Bean products do. not. die. ever. And if they do, they replace them. Coats, shoes, bookbags, everything. There's people here who have gotten 10+ years out of their products.

So I guess the question is are your kids growing slow enough or can you stretch hand-me-downs enough to make the price worth it? Absolutely if you have kids that are nearly done or done growing it's worth it, but if we're talking little guys that are growing an inch every two weeks and no good opportunities to reuse coats/boots/etc. for the next one down the line, you might want to save the money because the coat will fast outlive your kid's useful time with it.

I have done LE for all of us and have been very pleased. We live in CO, so it gets pretty cold here, and my kids are both snug and warm in their coats - no complaints about being cold, even when they are outside for recess every day. The coats wash well and have held up great for us. I have only purchased 1 LL Bean coat over the years and it wasn't as warm as I had hoped, but that is my fault for trying to go with something lightweight when I needed something heavier. Both companies have fantastic customer service, so I don't think you can really go wrong - if you don't feel it has lived up to your expectations, send it back at any time.

Live in MA and we all have Lands End coats...very happy with them...they have lasted multiple years and wash well!!

I've only done Lands End for winter coats in recent years and have found that they hold up really well. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. I have other things from LL Bean and they are nice, too.

Thanks for all the replies. I went with Lands Ens bc, one it was free shipping over $50( I know LL Beans is free as well) and two bc it was $40 off if you were spending over $100 which I was.

I am hoping these last for the winter. My DD8 is hard on her clothes but DS5 is not. They are both growing so I figure they will need a new jacket next year anyway.

Lands End didn't get bought out by Sears. They just have an agreement to sell Lands End items in Sears stores.
