Kindergarten countdown (ok, so it’s a year and a half away).
I’ve read a ton of trip reports and decided to try my hand at it. It’s pretty long and will probably include DCL and time at Disney, but I find it helps me to remember it as well (as if the 869 pictures we took and 4 videos wouldn’t trigger my memories). It all begins with my desire to have the kids live the Disney experience before they start Kindergarten September 2008. I’m not actually sure how I got to the disneycruise.com site and interest in taking the cruise, but I do recall doing a bunch of research and thinking to myself…”How the heck am I gonna convince Kyle (DH) to spend this kind of money on a cruise?” (Sidebar—DH had never been on a cruise and had previously been told (on numerous occasions) that he would fall off the face of the Earth and that a seamonster would get him). How to convince him? Well, first off, I readily gave up all presents for the full year (birthday, anniversary, valentine’s day, etc). I hyped it up on how cool it would be…got the video, etc. He finally agreed and I booked the 7-night Western, category 9, deck 2. I even took him on a RCL 3-night cruise to get him in the mood of cruising (which worked…he LOVED IT). I bought a bunch of stuff for the kids from disneyshopping.com, got the Passporter book (LOVE IT) and started highlighting away. Then, I started looking at the Disney site and got THAT itch. I brought up the topic and he just gave me a blank stare. I didn’t take that as a good sign. OK…I had to think of a way to make this more cost effective. Did I mention I’m really good at saving money while I spend it? I couldn’t change the dates…we had gotten a deal on the airfare and if I changed the dates, the deal would be lost. Then, I thought, “Hmmm…maybe we could do the four night cruise and then a few days in Disney.” I could book the verandah (whoo hoo) and still get some time in Disney. Well…3 days in Disney for the four of us is like $800(ish). Hmmm…not gonna convince him with that. Then I started thinking about the season pass. We have a vacation club in Orlando (not Disney) that we can split our room and get two weeks for the one week we pay for. Not staying on property, but the room would be paid for already. The season pass for the four of us was $1700…if we go just twice….it’s paid for. OK…some upfront cost, but the two together come to about the same as the 7-night cruise. I might be able to sell that. And sell, I did! I got the planning video for Disney to help get the kids hyped for the Year of Disney to begin.

Packing---OK, so truth be told, packing began each time something from disneyshopping.com came in the mail. I had also purchased some things recommended by the passporter site (collapsible hamper, over the door shoe holder were by far my favorites). By the time we left, we had 3 suitcases and a suitbag ready to go and all under the 50-lb limit…but would it fit in the full-size rental car when we got to Orlando? Yikes.

Day of…circa 2:30am.
Once we got down to 10 days and less, we began counting down on our hands so the kids (DH-4, DS-4) could countdown with me. Even the teachers at daycare were counting down with us. I think they were greatly jealous of the adventure that was about to begin. Ok, where we live, we have access to no less than 4 airports…from 20 minutes away to about 90 minutes away. This particular trip was about 50 minutes away and while I’m thankful for the additional time in Orlando, Spirit Air has a tendency to change airfare times out of Atlantic City. Our flight to ORL was originally around 7:40am and it ended up being 6:30am …considering the schedule we had planned for the day, we were okay with this. On the way back, it moved from 7:30pm to 8:40 pm. Same philosophy…that just meant more time in the parks. We left our house around 3am and got to ACY around 4am. Everyone napped on the way down, but me. That would have been a bad thing since I was driving (ha ha). I mention this because as the week goes on, there are more instances of everyone, BUT ME sleeping. We were checked in and waiting at the terminal for our 6:30am flight.

Day 1—EPCOT, Cape Canaveral & Watching the Magic Leave…
The upside of having such an early flight is that you have plenty of day left a head of you. Remember my concern about fitting all the luggage in the car? Well…I got up to the counter and stood there contemplating whether to upgrade to the next size car. It was almost like the rental agent read my mind. I mentioned how much luggage we had and she said she would charge me for an upgrade, but not for the car seats…ok..I can live with that. Sometimes we bring our own carseats, but with 4 other bags, plus carry-on bags, there was no way we’d be able to manage all of that. THANK GOD we upgraded. Even with the upgrade, it was tough getting all our luggage AND the stroller in the car. Thank God we took the side-by-side stroller and not the bigger one. We’d have been in deep doo doo. Even as it stood, the stroller went across the back seat, but at least we all fit. PHEW. Disaster avoided.

The goal for EPCOT was to talk to Crush, see the Nemo show, do Maelstrom & the Mexico boat ride. I would have loved to have done Soarin’, but we got there around 10am and with our time constraint and the fact that Kendall isn’t really tall enough…we skipped it. Gavin (DS) even got to talk to Crush. Of course, we didn’t get to see it, but it was cool, none-the-less. We even got our first autograph. Panchito (from the Three Caballeros). Kendall actually went up to him. I was SHOCKED! We have been going to Sesame Place for 3 years and it’s always potluck as to whether she’ll actually go get a picture with the characters. They liked the river ride in Mexico, but they didn’t like the trolls in Norway. I won’t be telling my Mom that since she is 100% Norwegian. We left EPCOT after a few hours and drove over to Cape Canaveral.

I really wanted to see the Magic and have the kids see her leaving. Of course, the greatness and reaction I was longing for as we went over the bridges didn’t come as both kids were conked out in the back seat. DD (Kendall) did wake up, but she is so tiny she couldn’t see anything. DARN! Oh well. This was going to be a Hakuna Matata trip and if that was the worst thing that happened, I’d be doing the happy dance at the end of the week.

The hotel (Radisson at the port) was fine. I didn’t really care for the sleep# beds (Sorry Lindsay Wagner (aka Bionic Woman)). I found the firm to be that of a rock and the soft was too mushy and just didn’t like those in between. I slept, but it wasn’t the best night sleep. We decided to go see if we could ‘find’ the Magic…we followed it along a service road for a bit and took a couple pictures. The kids were excited that they would be on a ship the next day. Now, I really don’t know that they got the whole gist that they were ON a ship for a few days, but who knows…? For dinner, we drove around a bit to see if there was somewhere I could eat. I have various dietary restrictions and eating out ain’t easy! We drove around for a bit and I was surprised at how few chain type restaurants (i.e. Applebees, Chili’s, etc) were there. We went back to the hotel and ended up walking over to Kelsey’s Pizzeria. I mention this for a couple reasons…a) because my niece’s name is Kelsey (got her a t-shirt from the place) and b) because it was a lot better than I thought it would be)…I mean, Kelsey is Celtic/Gaelic in nature so I was understandably curious. The kids/hubby had pizza (I took a small bite…pretty good). I had a salad & Minestrone soup (which was excellent). After, we went back to the hotel and I rearranged the suitcases so that I wouldn’t be bringing the clothes we would be using AFTER we got off the ship…we just left that suitcase in the rental car (which we left at the Radisson for free). (SIDEBAR…it was cheaper to keep the car for the week then to rent for a day, return and rent for 3 days…how weird is that?) Ok, so off to bed…we were on the first shuttle over to the pier at 10am…getting excited!!!

Day 2…Disney Wonder
The next morning we got up and went downstairs for breakfast. I went to the omelet station and asked the cook if he had cooking spray. He said, “Yes, but it’s the same ingredient.” Is he kidding me? I politely informed him that that may be, but that the oil is full of fat and cooking spray is not. Part of my eating restrictions has to do with the amount of fat I eat in a day so I don’t need any extra, thank you very much. He gave me attitude, but got my cooking spray. I debated saying something, but figured…I’m on vacation and Hakuna Matata. So, after, we got our bags, I moved the car to the cruise lot and we waited for the shuttle. We got dropped off right before 10am and went inside to register. Got Boarding# 2. How the heck does that happen (2 vs. 1)? There couldn’t have been more than 15 people in the terminal.

IMG_0551.jpg

We took a couple pictures outside (VERY WINDY), signed in and got our pager for the Oceaneer’s Club, took a few more pictures (I think this one is really cute) and then just waited.

Soon, Donald came out and we got our first Disney Wonder character autograph (1 of MANY to come). He was followed by Pluto. By that point, it was almost noon and they announced boarding #s 1 & 2 to board. WHOO HOO!!!

IMG_0567.jpg

We got on the ship, pretty quickly and went up to Deck 9 for our lunch. From a kid’s standpoint, I was disappointed in the buffet and had I known/realized that Pluto’s Dog House was open for chicken fingers and whatnot, I would have gotten the kids that. Ok…live and learn. There are a few of these moments on this trip. After lunch, we changed the kids into their swim gear and they got their first taste of the Mickey Pool…

IMG_0599.jpg

I think they liked it. :)

After about an hour or so, I headed off to find the place to make sure they understood my dietary restrictions while Kyle stayed with the kids at the pool. I also figured it’d be a good time to change out of my wet bathing suit. We had a Category 6 (6110) stateroom w/ verandah. LOVED IT. Right by the aft elevators, but not TOO close. This was a good thing! After I figured out how to open the verandah door (ok, it’s not hard, but I had the same issues I’ve heard other people had so I didn’t feel quite as stupid). Went to change and realized I had gone to the terminal in my bathing suit top and didn’t pack the necessary accessory to put my clothes back on. DRAT! Ok, the luggage will get here eventually and then I’ll change. We finally did get a couple suitcases. I partially unpacked, but had a date with other DISers (IT WAS GREAT MEETING ALL OF YOU) so off we went. Stayed for about 20 minutes and then went back to prepare ourselves for the mandatory drill. SO much more organized than it was on our RCL trip. We were literally done in 15 minutes. One of our muster (sp?) leaders was Kari…she’s also in a lot of the shows (plays Pain or Panic in Hercules, the one who wins the Golden Mickey, the Mom in Disney Dreams, Fairy GodMother…) and is a HOOT! We talked to her a couple times during the trip. After, we went to the sail away party. It was kind of loud for my kids, but we do have video of Gavin (DS) doing the cha cha slide and even now (several days later), he is still singing, “HHHHEEEEEYYYYY, HEY Baby…I wanna know, if you’ll be my girl.” It’s so cute!

Our servers…
Our servers were Gurkan (Turkey), Laura (Trinidad-Tobago) and head server was Adina (brain block on where she was from…I wanna say Croatia). 3 words. OH MY GOD. Absolutely AMAZING. Because I had dietary restrictions, Adina was constantly checking up on me. This is my 3rd cruise and this was the most contact I’d ever had with a head type person. And it didn’t stop at dinner…She saw me on deck one day at the beverage station and she asked me what I was getting…I said water and she got it for me. I told her I could get it and she insisted on getting it. She also took our tray away from us on Castaway. Stunned at her level of professionalism (given lack of any help from past head servers). Gurkan—same thing. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy, that I was okay with my meal (again restrictions…ick). He even while on Castaway saw us and came over. He asked what my son (Gavin) wanted (knowing full well he wanted the same chicken fingers he had eaten every day) and although they weren’t out, he went and found us some and then took my tray and brought it over to the table. I thought that was so nice. We only had Laura for a couple days because she took ill (Raj was her replacement and very nice also), but what struck me about Laura was that on the 2nd day, Gavin didn’t like any of the bread…she made a special trip to Triton’s to get him plain old French bread to eat. THAT is service!

Our first dinner…Animator’s Palate
Enjoyed the show, but wasn’t what I thought…Took a few pictures of the cells…NOTE…take any pictures like this without the flash. The flash whites out the pictures.

IMG_0648.jpg

Wasn’t thrilled about where we were sitting, but it was okay. I could also feel the ship moving. Turns out it was because it was turning around. They came over the loud speaker later to advise that due to a medical emergency, they had to go back to Port Canaveral. The itinerary was swapped out so that the 2nd day was the Day at sea (versus the 4th day) and that Nassau would be Day 3 and Castaway Cay Day 4. This actually turned out to be a good thing because it afforded us the opportunity to have the kids nap on Pirate Night.

After dinner and before the show, some characters were out. We had just missed Cinderella, but did get Snow White, Belle and PeterPan/Wendy. Note to self…ALWAYS have the autograph book with you. 2nd Note to self… Always carry extra batteries for the digital camera. I sent Kyle up to the room twice to get these things. Woops.

IMG_0672.jpg

After the show, we found no line for Cpt. Jack Sparrow and took advantage of it!
IMG_0674.jpg

The show that night was a juggler/comedian type guy…he was funny. Even my son was laughing which surprised me. I didn’t think he’d like it. We dropped the kids at Oceaneer’s Club for a bit, but they didn’t last long. I was praying that it was because they were tired. We had Palo brunch reservations and a spa reservation and it would be disastrous if they called during that. (Sidebar---they did a good job of advising us how our plans (i.e. brunch, spa) changed as a result of the itinerary change). Towel arrangement…elephant. I had some trouble sleeping that night…too wound up, I think. The bed was kind of close to the wall and when I got out of bed, I kicked the wall. OUCH! That wasn’t the word I used at the time, but this is a family board. :lmao:

Heya, lady! You're doing great! Keep it coming! I'm enjoying your pictures. Oh, and you are the BOMB for getting a #2 pass!!! Wow!

I'm off to start mine, too.

Brandie

GO DAWN! GO DAWN! GO DAWN! Loving the pics!!! Great start to your TR!
Like Brandie, I'm off to work on my TR this week. Hope to have pics up with it too! Can't wait to read more of yours!!!!:cheer2:

DAY 2…Day at sea

You know, I really wish they would give you ALL the character appearance times in one shot. This way, you wouldn’t wait in line only to find out you’ve gotten some of the signatures already. Case in point…the prior day, we got Snow White & Belle. That morning, they had Belle, Ariel, Snow White & Cinderella all out. Well, SHOOT! If I had known that, I wouldn’t have gotten their signatures the first day. Sheesh! Did get some cute pictures though and I have to say, they were all very nice (which I suppose it just is, but still). Then, later in the day, they had an autograph signing frenzy…no pictures, but a ton of the characters. My question was…where the heck was Captain Hook? He’s in the stinkin’ DCL preview Video…both he and Smee! If I was to torture my son with Princesses and more Princesses, I HAD to find Captain Hook too!

IMG_0698.jpg

Ok so again…revised itinerary…We had our Palo brunch so we dropped the kids off at Oceaneer’s Club and went on our way. Before going since we had time, we were peering over the balcony and just looking at the desk where Kylie was sitting (yes, Kylie, not Kyle). She was the person who booked future cruises. I jokingly made a comment…something like, “I know you’re already thinking about the next one” and he actually said, “Yeah, I am”. HOLY COW…Can this be real???? Would he really agree to another cruise…an even LONGER one? HOLY SMOKES! And I KNOW he hasn’t been drinking either! I remained calm and figured I’d approach the topic during brunch. We were early, but they took us. Our server (Ivana…hmmm…I think it was Ivana, not Adina who was from Croatia). Anyway, she was very nice and gave us a tour of the brunch. Kyle had tenderloin and I asked her for just a small dish of the pasta. They were both awesome! We also found out something very interesting. Individuals that are not from the USA…or at least not from the Northeast (I can’t speak for all Americans), don’t get sarcasm. On a couple occasions (including in Palo), Kyle made a comment about it being all he could do to finish it and the server just stared at him…almost worried that he really didn’t like it. We assured her everything was great. We got beeped just as we were finishing, but thankfully because we started out earlier, it wasn’t a problem. We got the kids, fed them lunch and went swimming. The Mickey pool was a mad house, but enough room for the kids to jump and play. Kyle and I had ‘discussed’ doing the 7-night cruise, but I wanted to arm myself with the cost ahead of time so while he was with the kids, I went to the internet café and looked up the current rates. I figured the on-board offer needed to be pretty good for this to really fly. I told him about what it would cost and he didn’t have a heart attack. He must be mellowing out. Around 2:30, he went off to do beer tasting and I took the kids to see “Meet the Robinson’s”. It was good, but the theater was FREEZING! A family behind me had a blanket on them. After the movie, the kids went back for a nap (as did Kyle) and I went swimming in the adult pool and just relaxed for a bit. It was formal night (actually, they call it dress up night on the 4-night cruise) and we were at Parrot Cay for dinner. Although you cannot see it clearly, my husband’s tie has the 7 Dwarf’s on it…I used to have to wear a tie 100 years ago when I worked at Blockbuster and I only bought fun ones. As for Gavin’s tie…I searched for WEEKS trying to find a cute tie for him…especially a Disney tie. A couple weeks before Easter…found one at the Disney Store. Who knew all I had to do was wait for Easter and there it would be. GOOD GRIEF!

IMG_0740.jpg

The show tonight was Hercules. LOVED IT. Of course, I love the original movie too. I had heard they were going to get rid of it and was greatly disappointed. I’m glad they didn’t. It was awesome. It was all I could do to keep Gavin awake…I was singing softly in his ear throughout the show. Strong Hercules is Jacob…he has some starring parts in other productions as well. We struck up conversations with him while waiting for Princess signings.

IMG_0767.jpg

After the show, I asked Kyle to get the kids ready for bed while I ran down to Guest Services. I ran smack dab into Captain Hook. NO WAY! It appeared he was setting up for pictures so I ran upstairs (literally…up the stairs…no elevator…too slow), gathered Gavin who wasn’t quite in bed yet and ran downstairs again. Where was Captain Hook? Oh, he was just passing by. Are you kidding? ICK! Is he scheduled to be anywhere on the ship for signings ever? They weren’t sure, but probably on Castaway Cay. Ok…that’s vague (more of that Northeastern sarcasm thing). Don’t they know I’ve been torturing my son for 3 days with Disney Princesses? I needed some Pirate action! Thankfully, Gavin was really too tired to notice so he went to bed. Around 10pm, I went up on deck and reviewed my Navigator for the next day while watching the beginning of the Incredibles on the bigscreen. Towel animal---monkey hanging from the curtains.

Next up...Day 3…Nassau

I'm reading, I'm reading!!!

How is it that these reports take forever to write and only minutes to read??? *argh*

:rotfl:
Brandie

Great report. Thanks for posting the pictures. Your kids are adorable.

thanks. I'll post more either later tonight or tomorrow. STILL trying to do all the laundry... :)

Day 3…Nassau
Does anyone have any idea what day it is? Isn’t it amazing how you get so immersed in the fun that you lose track of time? We sure did. Once again, I woke up earlier than everyone else. Around 5am to be exact. What’s up with that? I don’t even wake up that early at home. Ugh! So, by 6am, I decided, “Well, I brought my gym clothes, I might as well use them.” So, off to the fitness center I went. Kyle looked at me like I was nuts. On the way back, I stopped at Goofy’s and picked up some grapes and watermelon for the kids. That became the ‘thing to do’. If I was out and about wandering, I’d bring back watermelon & grapes for a snack. I suppose I could have ordered room service, but this gave me exercise too since I mostly took the stairs. That was the rule I created…if it is 3 flights or less…we’re taking the stairs. Mostly went over okay…and it got us all some exercise.

Anywho, Kyle and I had done Nassau just the last August so we weren’t in a huge rush to get off the ship. Ironically the same RCC ship was docked in Nassau too. We thought that was pretty neat. We had our spa day set up (Exotic Rasul). So, we had breakfast and then went to get in line for Mulan and Alice. We were too early though…got pictures with Goofy & Max first and then got onto a different line for Mulan & Alice. Afterwards, we dropped the kids off at O.C. I was nervous given that we had already been paged twice, but what the heck…

It was very hot in the steam room, but it was enjoyable. In the middle, the horns sounded for a firedrill type activity. We just looked at each other like, “Ummm…are we supposed to get off the ship? Will someone knock on the door and tell us?” Finally unsure and full of gunk on my skin, I wrapped a towel around me and went and asked someone who assured me it was for staff only. Ummm, hello? I think they need to warn you about those things. How were we supposed to know that? I think they actually gave us an extra 10 minutes in the chamber because of the faux pas. I was also worried the kids were beeping us and we were ignoring them. So, we finished our session, I checked the pager…no page. Huh…ok. Went back to the room so I could better dry my hair. We were going into Nassau to take the kids to Pirates of Nassau (hubby liked, I wasn’t impressed) and then off to Diamonds Int’l for my 2nd watch in 8 months. My first DI purchase was last August…a beautiful Movado for dress-up type events. This was to be an every day watch. Mission Accomplished. The kids wanted to go back to Oceaneer’s Club (alrighty) and so after a quick nap, back they went. It was getting to the point where they wanted to go there over swimming (which was good since there were two ‘incidents’ in two days where the pool was drained).

Pirate night…
I had a nice tropical type dress for Kendall, but she wanted to wear the Cinderella dress. Ok…Hakuna Matata. I can deal with that. Gavin wore his Captain Hook costume (same one in the picture in my signature) and he got so many compliments from other passengers…it was great. I was sort of frustrated though because I would have thought at least 1 castmember (other than our server) would have made a comment…nothing. Well, shoot! I think hubby looked pretty darn cool, too. He and Gavin actually had matching shirts, but we chose to go with the costume for Gavin. We didn’t make it for the fireworks, but did go for a little bit.

IMG_0851.jpg

The show that night was Golden Mickeys…great show. I became a master of taking the non-flash shots… Once again, the kids were exhausted so off to bed they went just after the show. Towel---crab.

IMG_0881.jpg

Day 4…Castaway Cay
Everyone describes it as gorgeous. It absolutely was. My ONLY complaint was that the water was freezing. OK, probably not freezing. This IS the Caribbean after all. But it was unseasonably cold (the lifeguard verified it). Kyle and I went snorkeling while the kids were in Scuttle’s Cove. I froze the entire time. No lie. I kept my arms crossed over my chest most of the time just to try to stay warm. Hubby didn’t believe me until he saw the goosebumps on my arms. BRRRR… The good news is…we found the Mickey. Ok, so I asked the same lifeguard where it was. I wasn’t going to freeze my buns off and not find it! I was actually surprised at his location given some of what I’d read. I was also surprised there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of fish, but that could be because of the temperature of the water. I did take pictures of Mickey, but that was on the water camera which means I actually have to get that developed. Ick. ;) (Sidebar…for those of you who may wonder (no pun intended)…we brought our own snorkel gear and just used their vest…no charge. They have some out near the water and you are free to use them). After snorkeling, we got the kids. We had rented tubes and just floated out in the water with them on our laps. Although they are not for public viewing (because I look horrible), Kyle had taken what he calls, “paparazzi shots” of me and Gavin in the tube. The funny thing is…they really are…I’m just kind of staring off into the distance totally unaware. I got a good laugh out of them before promptly deleting them.

IMG_0928.jpg

IMG_0937.jpg

By 2pm, we were done…kids were tired and FINALLY, we were getting a Captain Hook opportunity. So, we went back to the stateroom, showered, changed. Kids napped (incl Kyle)…again. Later, I went onto the verandah and looked down and who was taking pictures, but Daisy. Gavin had woken up so I picked him up and we yelled down, “HI DAISY”…she looked up and waved at us. We went down a little early to get her autograph, but the main focus was to get CH’s…Mission Accomplished and even I got in on the act.

caphook.jpg

OK, so that was done. Wanted to get the kids back to Oceaneer’s for graduation prep. What a nice program they do! Kendall saw me in the audience and yelled, ‘HI MOMMY”. The tears were welling up! After, we had to rush back for our final dinner at Triton’s. I tried the Vichyssoise. Blech. Didn’t like it at all. But I did manage to get a decent picture of me with her.

IMG_0985.jpg

The final show..,Disney Dreams. Another awesome show. The cruise director (Darren) said they recently revamped and improved it. I don’t know what it was like before, but I LOVED it. After the show (once again…kids exhausted), I wanted to go see, “Til we Meet Again”. I was there for a few minutes…talked to a couple cast members. Could have gotten Cap’n Hook’s signature/picture then, but who knew? Plus, at that point, Gavin was dead to the world asleep so I was glad I got it when I did.

The next morning, we had breakfast at Triton’s. Their schedule on the last day makes NO SENSE. Ok, I’m a pretty logical person. Not Spock, mind you, but logical none-the-less. If I have the Main seating…2nd time slot…wouldn’t I have the Main Seating…2nd time slot for the final breakfast? Nope…ours was the last. Don’t know why and it just teased my logical mind. But even with that, we were off the ship by 7:45. Talk about a non-event. Even finding the luggage was pretty simple. My husband asked if I wanted to use a porter. I was like, “Ummm…DUH”. You realize we have 3 carry-on bags, 2 suitcases, 2 children, 1 suitbag and a partridge in a pear tree (ok, not the last one). The Radisson shuttle came just before 8am and we were on our way back to WDW bright and early. During the course of the day, Kendall asked to go to the Oceaneer's Club...it was kind of tough to explain to her that OC was on the ship and we weren't on the ship any longer. Thankfully, the parks distracted her!

So, this ends the Wonder portion of our journey (still lots more to come on the parks). Overall…we had a FABulous time. I know I didn’t talk a whole lot about the food, but it’s because, quite frankly, I didn’t eat a whole lot of it…again…those dang dietary restrictions. Not complaining, mind you…just is what it is. What I did have was good, but the food wasn’t the focus for me. I CAN tell you that my husband thoroughly enjoyed his food including the two portions of Tenderloin the one night and the kids joyfully ate their Mickey Bars each night.

Did I mention we’re booked for the 7-night Western---May 3rd, 2008? And combined with the $200 credit DCL gave and the $200 stateroom credit when I transferred the reservation to Dreams Unlimited....Yeah baby!!!

PS…EVEN THOUGH THIS IS THE DCL TRIP REPORT SITE, I WILL BE CONTINUING WITH ANIMAL KINGDOM, MAGIC KINGDOM & MGM ON THIS THREAD JUST TO HAVE THE VACATION COMPLETE…COULD BE HELPFUL FOR THOSE THAT DO THE LAND/SEA (OR VICE VERSA) TRIPS.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Great trip report Dawn,

It is amazing how different everyone's trip is. Now, I know that the main difference in our 2 cruises has a lot to do with children.....which Lisa and I do not have. It is nice that DCL has such a high quality children's program.

I would have been very annoyed at being interrupted during a spa experience. I do think that DCL needs to make sure that guests are informed if such drills are happening.....I am sure it caused some very unnecessary stress in the middle of an activity that is supposed to reduce stress.

What deck will you be on for the Western? Our gang is on deck 7 in cabins 7568-7572. I am already too excited to sleep and it is still over a year away!

Linda

Deck 6 again...6610...same location as last time (6110) just starboard side instead of port side.

ANIMAL KINGDOM
We got there around 9:30 and by the time we got into the park and situated with sunscreen it was just after 10. The place was a zoo (pun not intended). We skipped over Camp Minnie-Mickey because we figured we had gotten a good# of autographs already so we weren’t I in a big rush to wait in a long line for autographs. Just as we thought that though, we came along Flik and stopped to say hi…

We thought it would be a good idea to hit Africa and do the Kiliminjaro Safari’s. Even at 10:30ish, there was a 45 minute wait. Ick. Fast pass it is! While we waited for our FP to activate, we took the train through Rafiki’s Planet Watch and met up with Pocahontas, Rafiki (who had the kids in stiches), and Jiminy Cricket. And Yes…we have matching t-shirts on. I totally messed up on the sizes for Kendall & Gavin though. They were almost falling out of them. Woops…guess they’ll get to wear them for the next couple years.

IMG_1092.jpg

After, we went into the petting zoo. They enjoyed brushing the goats, but it wasn’t a new experience for them since we often go to the Philadelphia Zoo where they get to brush and feed the goats. Onward…we still had a little time before the FP activated and the kids were hungry so we picked up a pretzel bigger than both of my hands together and some fruit. Then finally, we were able to hit the Safari. It was interesting, but I was a little disappointed because I wanted to videotape it. You can do that, but it’s awfully hard to videotape and point out animals to your 4-year olds at the same time. So, I ditched the Video. Maybe next time. Felt showing the kids the animals was more important. It was pretty hot so we didn’t get to see that many animals, but we’ll try again next time we go to see if we have better luck. We did see a baby giraffe which was kind of neat.

I saw a Path that I thought would take me diagonally across the park and we ran smack dab into the Tree of Life. MAN, is that cool. You see pictures, but you don’t realize how immense and detailed it is until you are close up. These are just some of the images we saw in the tree.

Since we were right there, we went and saw It’s tough to be a Bug. Kids didn’t like it…wasn’t sure they would, but I figured I’d give it a try. First off, they don’t typically wear the 3-D glasses. Freaks them out (although by the end of the trip, Kendall was wearing hers and it was cute to see her reach out to grab stuff).

After It’s Tough to be a Bug, we went to see Festival of the Lion King. What a great show! Took TONS of pictures and videotaped it too. The singing, acrobatics…just loved it. Looking forward to seeing it again in June. At this point, it was about 3:30 and the kids were losing steam quickly. We decided to leave and hit the hotel (All-Star Movies) pool (again…way too cold for me…this is getting to be a trend). We were in the Buzz building as I requested. Gavin and Kendall got a huge kick out of how big the icons were.

We ate in the food court. Other than the price of some things, I was really impressed with the food there. I had heard things like “it’s average,” “you get what you pay for” in terms of it being value. We had no issues. The 2nd night, Kyle had a chicken penne & alfredo and it was really good…but then we’re simple people…

After, we were back in the room, I decided to do a load of laundry. Some of the bathing suits and stuff from the ship were still damp and needed a good washing…Didn’t want them to stink too badly by the time we got home. If you’re planning on doing laundry, I’d recommend bringing your own detergent. I brought some, but of course left it in the car…grrr…so I just bought their powder. I wasn’t impressed with how the clothes were washed and ended up re-washing them when I got home. Oh, well…I tried. Went to bed pretty early and fell asleep in about 45 seconds.

Magic Kingdom
This was really a special day for me and my family. I had been to MK one other time MANY years ago. And while hubby and I are doing Disney in June (just the two of us…another one of those saving money while I spend it deals) and I cannot wait, there is nothing like seeing it through the eyes of a child. Kendall literally fell out of her stroller she was so excited when she saw Cinderella’s castle. It brought tears to my eyes. Of course, the day didn’t start out that smooth…sort of funny now, but at the time…major sigh. We wanted to get the first bus to MK and during breakfast. On the way to breakfast, it occurred to me we didn’t have the kid’s (or Kyle’s hat). He went back and got his hat, but couldn’t find the kids. He figured they were in the car, but alas…I had the keys. Ok so after breakfast, I said, go wait for the bus and I’ll go back and get the hats AND the stroller (which we also left in the car). I got the stroller and Gavin’s hat, but Kendall’s wasn’t there…it was in the room. Kyle just didn’t see it. Ugh. I get a call from him that he was on a bus. I get a call 2 minutes later…the bus left. Alrighty…just where do you think you’re going to go? I have the tickets! We were plenty early anyway, but at the time, it felt like a bad omen. Thankfully…it wasn’t.

I also have to say that I was really surprised, but MK wasn’t crowded at all. Even though we used fast pass on several rides, we didn’t wait in line for more than 20 minutes on anything. We hit Fantasyland first and did Dumbo. While DH was waiting in line, I ran over and got a FP for PeterPan. By the time it was our FP time to do PeterPan, we had done everything else in Fantasyland that we wanted to including the carousel twice, Dumbo, SnowWhite, Winnie the Pooh and It’s a Small World. Then we moved on to Mickey’s Toontown Fair. On the way in, we got Abby Mallard’s autograph and on the way out…Chicken Little’s. So cool! Those of you that saw the movie, understand the gesture Kyle & CL are doing.

Kendall and I did Goofy’s Barnstorm rollercoaster. Gavin wanted no part of it. Similar to our thoughts in Animal Kingdom, we didn’t kill ourselves for the mainstream (Mickey, princess) autographs since we got all of those on the ship. Gavin saw the Indy speedway and wanted to do that so off we went. Only a 15 minute wait and we got to drive next to each other. Was fun, but man those things are hard to steer! Of course, I had to let my son beat me and my daughter…just not right to beat him. We had a quick lunch (and saw someone from the ship which we thought was pretty funny)…huge park…you get the idea and then went over to Buzz Lightyear…again, only a 15 minute wait so in we went. My first go-around, I stunk BAD at shooting. My excuse (and I’m sticking to it) is that I was helping my daughter shoot…I couldn’t let her not have any points for crying out loud. Later, we got a fastpass and did it again after catching some other fun stuff like Space Mountain (for me). This time, I helped my daughter and still managed 45K points. I was happy with that. We also saw Buzz Lightyear and decided to stop and get his signature (which is just a stamp, but ok…that’ll do). As we were walking toward the Haunted Mansion, we came upon the Evil Stepsisters & Evil Stepmother. We were standing in line when it started spitting out…they made them go inside so we missed the autograph opportunity…We were kind of bummed because it rained for all of 3 minutes and stopped again. But…hakuna matata. We did manage to snap a picture of them (albeit with someone else’s children).

IMG_1452.jpg

Haunted Mansion was next. This was another crap shoot for the kids…I kept telling them it wasn’t scary…that it was just like Scooby Doo (since they LOVE that). Don’t think they liked it, but they didn’t freak either so we’ll call that a draw. Then, we moved on to Pirates of the Caribbean. We had been hyping this one up with Gavin. He enjoyed it. Kendall was on the fence about it. Did get a cool picture though that I was surprised came out…This is like a hologram in ‘mist’. Very cool. We also saw Captain Hook w/ Smee so we waited to get both of them.

davyjones.jpg

Afterwards, I thought it would be neat to ride the train back to the main gate. The kids got to ride in the back and say “All Aboard” over the intercom. Everyone on the train applauded for them. It was cool that they let them do that.

After, we went back to the hotel and were greeted by the kid’s stuffed animals. Repacked everything and then by 8:30 we were in bed…we were getting up bright and early for the EMH’s at MGM. The scary thing is that again…probably 2 minutes tops to get me to fall asleep. NUTS!

IMG_1483.jpg

Our last day…MGM
Early Magic Hours…what a cool concept. Now, we won’t be staying on Disney Property for all of our adventures to Disney in the next year, but it really is a cool concept. We got up super early, packed the car, had some breakfast and were on our way to MGM. Now, there are only a few things open that early, but we did do Rock ‘N Roller Coaster 2x and Tower of Terror once. Both very cool. If I had known how nuts ToT was going to get, I probably would have gotten a fast pass for it, but alas…there’s always June. We did all the ‘stuff’ in the Animation area at the same time. Got a fastpass for Little Mermaid (only 15 minute windows on these) and went of to the animation show. I would have liked spending more time in the gallery area (Love that stuff), but we had to get to Little Mermaid. At this point, I’m exhausted and it’s all I can do to stay awake during the show….but it’s basically just as I remember anyway. It ended just in time to run over to Playhouse Disney and see Bear in the Big Blue House w/ JoJo, Stanley & Pooh too. It was really cute. I thought the kids would enjoy it more, but I think they were just so tired, they didn’t care a whole lot. I have a full CD that I made for the kids on Bear. They LOVE Bear…but I think they were just ‘done’/worn out. I did videotape it though so at least the kids can watch it again.

After, we went back into the animation area and met up with Mr. Incredible & Elasti-girl and also Bollerhat guy from ‘Meet the Robinsons’. Good thing we saw the movie on the ship! (tee hee). We had just missed Lewis & Wilbur and decided we didn’t feel like waiting around another 30 minutes for them to return

IMG_1576.jpg

So…we walked…ok, ran…back to see Beauty & the Beast. Since we had to get back to the airport later that day, I wanted to make they got to see that show…they enjoyed it, I think. It’s amazing how they take a 90 minute cartoon and squish it into 20 minutes. We walked more leisurely this time over to find the Toy Story characters since it was getting close to the time they would be shutting down. I swear they hide the character locations…or maybe it’s just me. Anywho, we found Woody and waited in line to get his ‘stamp’. Buzz was coming out too, but since we already had his signature, we didn’t get it again. We decided to stay in the area and ate at the Pizza place. SO crowded. I know they’re handling a tremendous # of people, but I’ve seen rush hour traffic move faster. I swear it took me 20 minutes just to place my order. But at that point, the kids needed to eat so I waited.

After, we did the Muppet 3-D show. It’s amazing to folks like DH and I who grew up on the Muppets…One of my favorite holiday movies is a Muppet Christmas Carol. I think Rizzo is a HOOT! I don’t think small kids get it anymore which is a shame. After, we had the kids back in the stroller and were debating what to do and in a matter of 2 minutes, Gavin was out cold…I am talking Dead to the World. We walked by a couple of REALLY LOUD siren type things…nothin’. We decided to try to sync up with the Monsters, Inc clan (they hide them too). Since we had some time, I snuck in to see “Sounds Dangerous”. Eh…probably a C rating from me. Nothing spectacular. We tried to wake Gavin up to take a picture with Sully & Mike Wazowski (sp?), but again…Dead to the world. He barely budged…so I got in the picture instead.

IMG_1630.jpg

It’s now around 2ish or so…Kids are beat and there isn’t a whole lot we can do. I finally urge my husband to go do Star Tours (he wasn’t impressed) and I went off wandering and got Kendall some popcorn (Gavin is still sleeping). It was getting close to parade time and we were right where it started so I moved my way in to get a mediocre viewing spot. Did manage some good pictures including Power Rangers which Gavin loves. Unfortunately…he missed it….I guess there’s always next time.

IMG_1627.jpg

After the parade, we were pretty much done. It was hot and muggy and the crowd level was bordering on chaotic. I truly don’t know how people do it in July/August…So, even though we were going to be getting to the airport REALLY early, we decided to go there and just have an early dinner. We got home around midnight and thankfully slept in on Sunday…6 loads of laundry later, we’re back in reality which is okay for now (since I know a return is imminent in June). Of course, that time between June & September might cause some withdrawal.

So…that’s the trip. We had an awesome week…very few meltdowns (which, with 2 4-year olds is no small feat) and fun was had by all. I already changed my ticker to reflect the next upcoming trip with just me and hubby. Which, by the way…as mentioned previously is an example of me saving money while I spend it…Airfare for the two of us combined…$236…PopCentury…paid for using Amex Points (which I’ve been piling up for YEARS)…Car rental…N/A thanks to Disney Magical Express. Spending quality time with just the hubby…Priceless! I also just transferred my DCL cruise for ’08 over to Dreams Unlimited…they just had a deal that got me an additional $200 stateroom credit…that’s $400 in credits now. Oh happy day!

I hope you enjoyed reading this…I’m happy to answer whatever questions I can about DCL or WDW now that we’ve gotten a taste of both with little ones. Hope everyone’s trips are as magical and wondrous as ours has been…until next time…Dawn414.

That was great! Thank you for the recap in the parks, too! You did a great job with the details.

I'm finding myself reluctant to write the "...and then we got off the boat..." part of my trip report. :rotfl: You showed me it could be done without tears... But it could be that you have that June trip... *hrmmmmm*

*smile*

Great Trip Report and Pictures! We also did the 4 day Wonder in Feb of this year and then spent some time in Disney World after it was over. AND my husband and I are also going to Disney without the kids June 7-10 and will be leaving out of Atlantic City on Spirit! ITS A SMALL WORLD!!

Brandie-I agree I would probably be much more depressed if it weren't for the upcoming trips in June, September, November...Jan or Feb '08 and then May again...

Can't wait to read yours...and Cat's...and everyone else's from our trip too!

Loved the entire trip report. We were on your Cruise and like Lisa were two adults, no kids. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the girls dressed as princess getting pictures. The shows were great and the staterooms were large than I anticipated. I am glad you enjoyed your cruise and are coming back our way for a visit. I live in Orlando so if you need anything, let me know.

Could you get rid of the love bugs this September? That'd be great! :rotfl:

Seriously...those things are annoying!

Ok, so slight update here...wanted to add the Mickey from castaway key...finally got those pictures developed. AND...I just got back my 1194 (597 times 2 sets) of pictures for FREE!!! Wal-Mart/Fuji messed up and didn't get them to me when I was supposed to have them and so I got them for nothing. How cool is that?!

Woohoo! Pretty cool!

Thanks for posting those pictures! Fiona will be tickled when she sees them.
