We're looking at taking a September trip (2 kids ages 10 & 8 and husband & me)...I can get GV 1 bdrm villa for 134$ nightly, or Lakeshore 1bdrm villa for 209$ nightly, OR a 2 bdrm villa at Cypress Harbour for 180$ nightly.

Which resort has the best pool and kids activities and is the most up to date in terms of room decor?

Is Lakeshore Reserve worth it for the new resort and use of the JW pools. I noticed it also has water slides, which my kids might enjoy. Is it too far from Disney and Universal? Thanks to anyone who can offer their view on these three.

I can offer you some insight about Lakeshore.

Stayed at the Lakeshore October 2010. It is a beautiful resort. We stayed in a studio, I'm not sure about the one bedroom. The pool is fantastic and we did walk over to the JW. I'm thinking it is closer to Universal and about 20 minutes to Disney. They didn't have a whole lot of kids activities that we noticed (but we were without the kids so maybe we just didn't notice!) We are actually staying at Harbour Lake in a few weeks, which seems a little more kid friendly-and are bringing the kids!

Thanks for your insight. I pulled up Harbor Lake and can also get a 2bdrm for 180, but I noticed the decor is not quite as nice. Also, the pool slide and area seem geared towards the 6 and under set. My kids might be more wowed by Lakeshore, but the price tag is higher for less space!! Have you heard anything about or stayed at Grande Vista or Cypress Harbor? Also, I am looking at Sabal Palms because you can used the World Center pool. This is hard!

There are two pool slides at Harbour Lake. The pirate ship pool slide (geared for younger kids) and the tall platform slide over by Building 28 with water pop jet play area beside it.

We have stayed at Grande Vista and Lakeshore Reserve. Here's my take on both properties.

Lakeshore
Pros: Lakeshore is beautiful and new. The rooms are gorgeous (we had a 2 bed/2 bath unit). The grounds are gorgeous. The pool is amazing (though we didn't make use of it on our trip). The water slides look pretty cool. Lakeshore is no more than 15-20 minutes from any park. You can use the facilities at JW Marriott which is also nice. Lakeshore also has interior corridors (if that is important to you).

Cons: Backs up to a busy, noisy highway. I like to sit on the balcony at night but couldn't really enjoy it here as I heard so much road noise. That may not bother everyone and inside the unit you could not hear anything. Not a lot of kid's activities (at least for little ones like mine, 5 and 2). The kid's activity center is okay but my little ones bored pretty quickly in there as there isn't much for them to do if they don't want to play video or computer games. Lakeshore seemed more like an "adult" resort than a "family" resort to me. My husband LOVED it here and wants to go back but he is basing that decision solely on the beautiful accommodations.

Grande Vista
Pros: Secluded off I-drive - you pretty much feel like you are far away from everything but are minutes from everything. The newer units are gorgeous - nice furnishings, granite counters, etc. The kid's activities here are amazing! Hardly an hour passed without something my little ones could do. They have an indoor play area that was fantastic on rainy days. Probably not for older kids though as they do have a height restriction. Even the non-kid activities here are neat. While I didn't get to participate I saw several things I would enjoy on the agenda. Love, love, love Grande Vista.

Cons: Older units not as nice - we always request a newer unit and have usually been granted our request. That is honestly the only negative I can think of about Grande Vista. Unless exterior corridors bother you as that is all they have at Grande Vista. That has never been an issue for us, though.

In all fairness I think when Lakeshore is completed and more people are visiting here the activities will probably improve....but the road noise will still be an issue.

Given the choice and due to the age of my children I'd pick Grande Vista over Lakeshore in a heartbeat. When my kids are teens that may change as the big sell for us at Grande Vista are the activities and the indoor play area. The staff at both places have been amazing.

Have you heard anything about or stayed at Grande Vista or Cypress Harbor? Also, I am looking at Sabal Palms because you can used the World Center pool. This is hard!

Sabal Palms, at the Marriott World Center hotel complex, is among a group of three small, and older, timeshare resorts that are close to Disney property and I-4. It's an older style, two-story modular resort that is set up along a golf course and is fairly peaceful in it's location behind the hotel and set away from the other two timeshare resorts (Imperial Palm Villlas and Royal Palms) in the group. It's rather low on onsite amenities - a smaller resort pool, a fitness room and a small game room - and hosts less than half of the childrens' activities that are shared among the three resorts. It's located about a mile from the other two resorts but only a short walk, via a path that starts next to the spa building, to the huge pool area at the hotel. The villas are moderately large by most timeshare standards, have individual, private entrances with balconies that overlook the golf course. This is a nice resort for a quiet but not fancy resort experience. The resort staff is very nice and accommodating.

Cypress Harbour was the second Marriott timeshare effort in Orlando (after the three "Palms" group). It's a relatively concentrated resort with mature landscaping and, IMO, a great relaxing resort feel. There are three pool areas - one irregularly shaped pool with a separate childrens' pool behind the registration clubhouse building; one called the Island Pool that's across the lake from the clubhouse pool via bridge that features a lap pool, a waterfall, a sauna and a couple of hot tubs; and one smaller and rather private pool area that's at the end of the lake near the buildings that is next to the activities center. The resort store, a bar and pizza hut express/grill are located next to or at the clubhouse complex above the pool area. This resort is our favorite Orlando Marriott timeshare resort. It's located in the SeaWorld neighborhood and close to I-4.

Grande Vista was built after Cypress Harbour and is the largest freestanding Marriott in Orlando. This resort is probably smaller than the Newport Coast Villas that you've stayed at but also probably more like that resort than are the other Orlando Marriotts. Grande Vista has two major pool areas and two smaller "area" pools which are located near the buildings that are furthest from the resort center. The Village Center pool area includes a large irregularly shaped pool, a small lap poll and a few hot tub. That area is located behind the registration building and adjacent to several buildings of villas. That area also features the resort store and a pizza hut express. I think that the game room and fitness center are in that area, too. Across the lake, via bridge, at the Plaza del Sol complex is a second major pool area that includes a pool with some childrens' features - a couple of small towers with water guns, I think - and the Copa Loca bar and grill. The resort features direct access to a golf course and has a traditional full-service sit-down restaurant. This one is located off International Drive near SeaWorld, I-4 and the Beachline (SR 528 - one of the routes into the resort and theme park areas of Orlando from the airport). I think that this is a nice resort in a good location.

Sabal Palms is the quietest and smallest of these resorts, Cypress Harbour has a more adult feel to it but is just as responsive to families with children and has all the great Marriott activities programs and facilities, Grande Vista feels like it's aimed more at families and is, by far, the largest of these resorts. And all of them are pretty nice.

fwiw, we stayed at Cypress Harbour (2 adults and a 6 year old) and LOVED it, but when we go next time I'm looking at Harbour Lake or Grande Vista for our will be 11 year old and 3 year old. I don't feel the pools at Cypress Harbour are specifically kid - geared like Harbour Lake. They're lovely pools, but they really are just pools, no interactive features, really... The space was wonderful, although somewhat dated. We didn't mind that. Having the two bedrooms plus the pullout couch is a plus, though.

If you're looking specifically at pools, I wouldn't recommend Cypress Harbour.

We have stayed at Cypress Harbour and at Grande Vista. Both are amazing. When we go back to Orlando next year we are thinking about returning to Grande Vista or trying Harbour Lake. Our son will be 6, so either would be great, no doubt. Just have to see when we get to the nitty gritty of planning which we are more drawn to. We had thought about staying on site at WDW, but really can't rationalize the price.
