Ladies Only question-Birth control ?

A couple of my friends are on YAZ and say they hate it. They say it gives them awful mood swings and makes them more irritable than normal.

I am on a "very low dosage" (according to my gyno) birth control called Loestrin 24 FE. I LOVE it. I've never had any problems except for some spotting in the first 3-4 months (normal). It's great- I haven't gained any weight, no mood swings, things are normal.. and it gets the job done.

Good luck OP!

I really appreciate all of the replies. It's nice to see the replies of you guys on Yaz that have not had any negative side effects. It is comforting to see others have similar issues, and I am not alone with this type of problem.

Maybe I will go ahead and do what the doctor says and try the Yaz for six months. Actually, I have my annual visit due in February so if things don't seem to working well I can address it with him then. Thanks again.

Well, I just started browsing the internet sites, and now I have scared myself so much that I don't know what to do anymore. Once I think I have a plan, I talk myself out of it. There are so many stories on the internet about Yaz causing blood clots and strokes that I am so nervous. I want to do what my doctor tells me (he is fantastic) but I am terrified of dying and leaving my children behind.

You said you want to become more regular so you will feel better. How are you feeling - i.e. how does it relate to being more regular might help?

I have PCOS and had to go on Clomid to become preg. with our second. Two miscarriages between my two boys. After he was born, my Dr. wanted me to go on BC also - same reason - it is just not "Natural" to not have a period every month. Well - - it's just not natural to take BC either :confused3 I thought - especially in your late 30's! The cons outweighed the pros, so I chose not to. Ironically I am more regular now at 44 than I ever was 12- late 30's - don't know why.

Since you aren't looking to get pregnant, I wouldn't take the risk with Yaz. Maybe the way you are feeling is more due to the tubal and not PCOS. I had a co-worker die of a pulmonary embolism due to the birth control patch. I won't take an unecessary risk like that anymore.

I was on Yaz too for a few months and asked my Dr to change it because of the moodiness too.

I'm just curious why he is treating you with Yaz for a condition that he is just pretty sure you have. Can't this condition be diagnosed with an ultrasound?

I've never heard that not having a period is harmful.
Endometrial tissue that stays inside the uterus longer than every 30 days or so is exposed to estrogen longer and puts one at risk for endometrial cancer.

OP, I agree with seeing an endocrinologist.

i hated loestrin 24 FE! it gave me the worst mood swings. i started crying at EVERYTHING when i was on it.

I used it for years with no problems. It was only birth control that didn't make me super sick. I stopped taking it, had another baby and I am considering going back on it myself,, but also was hesitant because of all the bad publicity that I saw recently. I didn't have a bad reaction to it but who is to say my body hasn't changed in over a year?
