With my several skin cancer bouts over the past several years, I am terrified to get any sort of exposure to the sun. As a result, I always have milk white legs!

Has anyone ever used the sunless tanning lotions? If so:

1. Which product works really well and doesn't turn orange?
2. Do they streak in chlorinated pools?
3. Have you ever gotten a skin reaction from using them?

Thanks....
Cathy

Cathy: I have never done this before but the girls at work are now going to a place where they spray on your tan. You need to check around to find a popular tanning spa. They look wonderfully tanned from dark to light depending on what they want to have done. The girls tell me that this has been the best way to achieve that tanned look so far. (Lots of the women including myself have tried tanning products some work some don't.) Going to a tanning spa you get a nice even look and I wouldn't have known they had gone if they hadn't told me. I just stay pale...hope this helps. Pauline

I think this is the one that has a reaction to the water but can't remember if it's the Salt or Chlorinated.

I have used Nutrogena in the past and have had good results. I also purchased a Body Sponge that I dampen before I use it. I use the spray product then take the dampened sponge to make sure that the product is covered evenly. Also don't forget to smooth over your toes and inbetween and underneath so that you don't leave a "Tan Line"

I have been using tanning lotions for along time now and have tried about every kind on the market. My favorite is from AVON!
I always go back to that one!
I love having a tan but since I (and my mother) had skin cancer, I have to be more careful about being in the sun!:sunny:

Questions:

Do they wash off in the shower and you have to reapply every day?

And do they streak in salt or chlorinated water?

Thanks again -- very helpful.

Depending on how dark you want to be, you can apply it every day, every other day or whenever you want really. Mine does not come off in the shower, unless of course you SCRUB it off!
The only time I noticed that it comes off right away is when I got in a hot tub!

I think banana boat is very good and is inexpensive.
They don't wash off in the shower, you apply it until you are the color you want then maintain it. I think once you have "establish" your tan it will not streak, ect in the water. It would if you just applied and didn't wait. A good site to look at is www.sunless.com
There is ALOT of info there. good luck:D

I've tried so many brands, but Clinique has been the best. To get the best results, always exfoliate prior to applying the product.

I've never noticed it washing off in water. And I always apply it every other day for a consistent and even coloring.

Another good tip is to mix equal parts of sunless tan lotion and your favorite moisturizer together for smoothing over your knees, ankles, etc. It helps make it look smooth and natural! Not splotchie!

I'm blonde and blue eyed and white as the paper in my printer. Living in Florida, I look ridiculous without some sort of tanner on my legs.

Hubby and I use Target's foam tanner -- it's very inexpensive and works great. It does not come off in salt or chlorine, and looks very natural. I would not use it if you are darker skinned because it produces a very light color -- however, the more often you apply, the darker it will be. It's a foam, so it goes on very evenly and lightly.

I have very sensitive skin, and this one -- and Neutrogena's -- do not cause a skin reaction at all.

Neutrogena does not have an icky smell either...it is rather pleasant. I just used this product for the first time this weekend and was happy with the results...I plan to reapply every other day until I get the desired result.

"Mystic tan" ...at your local tanning salon. You go in a booth, get sprayed for 30-60 seconds and then you are done. Looks real! Lasts a week or more. I think it costs around $20.

Chlorine does not affect it.

I have tried a few products including the spray on tan. The spray on is nice however, if you have any "folds" in your skin, ie... under your ****s and your butt, you will end up with lovely WHITE smiley faces . My DH informed me of this while I was getting dressed one morning. Not a good thing if you plan on wearing a swimsuit. Also I noticed that the spray on only lasted about 3 days and faded fast.

I now use L'oreal's Sublime Bronze. Its around $7.50 at Wal-Mart and is tinted so you can see exactly where you are putting it. It comes in Med-Dark and Dark. I use it about 2-3 times a week and one bottle has lasted me at least 3 weeks. Much cheaper than the spray on stuff. I usually apply it about 30 min before bed and let it dry about 15-20 min before putting on old clothes. (I've dressed sooner and noticed that some has come off on the clothes so now I just wait until I'm dry.)

You may notice a little come off when showering for the first time but I don't notice any streaking at all.

I am Blonde/Blue Eyes and am naturally "fish belly" white and it looks very natural on me. I get comments all the time.

I still use sunscreen when going out in the real sun!!!

Whatever product you use, make sure you try it out well before you go! I had a few white streaks the first time I used one where I "missed" That site www.sunless.com that someone else mentioned has lots of great info.

Have used Neutrogena Sunless Bronzer/Tanner. Really liked this. Not sure if it reacts to chlorine since I don't swim in pools. But as a very white girl (talking porcelain here!) it gave my skin a very healthy and natural looking tan. You can also see where you put it on as its a foaming solution. Just make sure to read the directions. A little goes a long way :)

I have used Nutrogena's sunless spray for a couple of years and really like it. It comes in 3 shades and I find the lighter one works best for me. Very natural looking and lasts several days before reapplication is necessary. It sprays out in a fine mist and is easy to smooth so there's no streaking. Like other self tanners, make sure your exfoliate first. I tried a self tanning cream from Borgese this summer that was just for legs and even though I was very careful it streaked like crazy! It's back to Nutrogena for me::yes::

I like the Mystic Tan to get a tan all over but I just wish it lasted longer and I wish it was not so expensive!!!

I had mystic tan done before. The concept is great... nice even tan in less than a minute. However, mine turned out alittle orangie. Another down side is I was really dark the first day, and the tan faded noticeablely by the third day... by the 4th and 5th day, I was left with barely one shade away from my original skin color. With all that said, there's no easier way than mystic tan. Anything is better than mine blinding white legs. I will still get one before the cruise and hope all the sun will keep my tan going :)
