Hello,

Well, I am going to have to find a new base make-up.
I have loved the L'oreal Mattique that I have been using!
It has full coverage (which I need, with fair, but ruddy skin).
But is very light-weight.
I can't use anything that might end up looking oily.
I love the 'Matte' finish that it is named for.
It is SOOOOO clean, that it literally rinses squeaky clean off my fingertips after I apply it, with lukewarm water! (and I am not exaggerating)
It has no harsh ingredients or strong SPF which really irritate my eyes.
Completely skin friendly.

Unfortunately, I have to give it up.... to avoid one of the ingredients!

I have looked on the cosmetic shelves, and can't seem to find one that even comes close to being so good for what I need!

Do any of you ladies know of any products that sound similar?

I can go cheap on many of my other cosmetics.... But my base HAS to be good!

I LOVE Clinique. My dermatologist recommended it years ago. I would definitely give their base a try.

Another loyal Clinique customer here! I've been using their products for years!

I don't wear foundation on a daily basis, but when I do I use their Soft Finish Makeup. It goes on nice and light and easily washes off. No built in sunscreen either. Their sunscreen can be applied first if needed. It has a nice smooth matte finish.

I also their Dramatically Different moisturizing lotion for my face after I wash it. I think I started using it back in the early 1980's!

Visit the Clinique cosmetic counter and ask them what they recommend for your skin type and tone.

I love Clinique! I won't use anything else. I also got my 2 sisters hooked and they told 2 friends and so on..... sorry I digress!
Living in FL I had trouble with a base being to heavy so when i was visiting family in NJ I went to the Clinique counter at the store I used to go to before moving and she got me hooked on "almost makeup" it has a spf of 15, clean and when I wear it I don't feel like I have makeup on but it clears up the flaws!

I Used To Be A Clinque Girl Until..............i Spilled My Bottle Of Dramatically Different Moisturizer On The Ivory Carpet And It Permanently Stained The Carpet, Made Me Wonder What It Was Doing To My Skin. I Switched To Loreal And Have Never Looked Back

I use the clinique superfit and super balanced foundation, which I switch off with Lancome's photogenic foundation. I love my clinique especially love the mascaras they have (long pretty lashes in particular).

what I would do is schedule a make-over at a few different counters...clinique, bobby brown, lancome, whatever...and see who you like best.

I used to use clinque (although only a tinted moisturizer) but recently switched to bobby brown and am so glad I did. I just love everything I have bought so far.

I'd recommend checking out 'Bare Minerals'. If you are looking for lightweight, matte coverage it can't be beat! And it feels so clean! Thier stores are only on the west coast but you can get the products at thier web site or on QVC.

It is a powder base, but the coverage is excellent! Takes a bit of experimenting to get just the right shade. I have to mix two... but it is so worth it! They have all the other make-up products too, I love the blush and thier other face color products (similar to bronzer... but not as dark) but the base is my favorite.
Here's thier site... http://www.bareminerals.com/
Or check them out on QVC's site...

Dermatologist recommended Clinique is the only makeup for me. I made the mistake of trying another makeup and ended up with first degree chemical burns, yup, REALLY sensitive skin!

I have very ruddy skin, very sensitive skin--you name it, I've got it. I have used Clinique for years and had no problems with it, although it doesn't get the red out as much as I like

Earlier this year, I started using the Sheer Cover (which is just like the Bare Minerals makeup mentioned above). I have totally converted. It is wonderful. Totally takes the red out, extreme matte finish, flawless complexion. I was really convinced when I ran out of the Sheer Cover and went back to my Clinique. I felt like I looked awful in the Clinique (and I used to LOVE it).

Unfortunately, the bare minerals or sheer cover makeup isn't easy to find. But it is so worth it.

Another vote here for BE! I started using this about three weeks ago and I just love it! I can't believe that I have carried around powder puffs constantly buffing my oily t-zone for years, until I looked like I had on a caked coating of somthing........I don't have to do that anymore. It is truly amazing stuff!!!!

I used to use Clinique, but now I use Virtual Matte by Prescriptives - it is great and one of the only ones with spf that doesn't cause me to break out.

Also love their Immediate Matte toner. Great stuff.

Exactly... total flawless coverage! And it feels completely weightless.

You can find Bare Minerels ANYTIME on QVC's website:

Thanks so much you all !

I am suprised that my thread got all these replies.

I thought that I might get some recommendations for the bare-minerals type makeup. but, I have to say. I am kind of leary of a dry powder??? How can it cover so well? How does it stay on your skin? I guess I just can't wrap my brain around it.

I guess I am used to using my foundation kind of like a lotion. I like the feel of putting it on my skin. I feel like it keeps my dry-patches from being dry?

I started using Bare Escentuals last month and I love it. My skin used to be so oily, as someone else said, I would be powdering all day. Now the oiliness is almost gone, and you don't feel like you are wearing makeup.

Is there a Sephora near you? I bought the starter kit there for $60 - it comes with 3 brushes.

I use Laura Mercier's foundation. It is water based, and very light, gives great coverage, but it doesn't hide the "real" you, if you know what I mean. I apply with a moist sponge, add a little translucent powder, and voila! All done. It never feels heavy. A little goes a long way. I still haven't finished the bottle I have been using since end of April/beginning of May. So, that's at least six months, and I use it daily.

I like Clinique products, but admittedly have never tried their foundation.

I think you should test out different things at the store. That can be fun! :goodvibes

Another vote for Bare Minerals. I've been using it for about six months now and I will never go back to liquid foundation.

By the way, there's a Bare Minerals store in Atlanta at Lenox Mall if that helps anyone around here.

I love Bare Minerals as well. Got my sister to try it and she has a ruddy complexion and now she won't use anything else either. Also, if you don't like it for any reason at all, QVC will totally refund your money. :goodvibes

My DD uses Clinique. She used to have trouble breaking out, but a friend of mine noticed it and tactfully suggested that I might want to check into Clinique for DD (my friend had had the same problem).

DD is 18 now and has been using Clinique for 2 or 3 years. It's expensive but completely solved her problem (crowned Fairest of the Fair last month :flower: ).

Me, on the other hand, I just use whatever...
