Labor-Moms please help**Update page 2**

With my first son, my water broke and I did not have any contractions until they started the pitocin.

I am now almost 37 weeks pregnant and don't know if these are pain pains or just "false labor".

I am having contractions that seem almost constant (I have been having them since my appointment on Tuesday, I was on a moniter so I know for sure they are contractions). I have tried to time them, but it really seems like they never go away. When I get up to walk around the contractions stay the same.

I am also having menstral like cramps, that are also pretty constant.

I am on bedrest, because I had a high blood pressure reading on Tuesday and was +1 for proteins (but once they started monitering me in the hospital, my blood pressure and protein reading were fine).

I hate that it is the weekend, otherwise I would have already called the DR.

Definately call! It sounds like labor to me, but I'm not a medical professional. I'm sure the Dr's are used to getting calls at all hours. Best wishes!

I work in Labor & Delivery and we get these calls all the time.

I think you should go in and be checked to see if you are in labor and if you are dilated. You could have a urinary tract infection which will bring on contraction like discomfort.

Never be afraid to call your doctor, that's what they are there for! Someone is always on call to answer your questions. They may recommend that you just lay down and take it easy, but at 37 weeks, I think you should be checked out!

We tell our patients to come in through the ER and they'll bring them up in a wheelchair.

In addition to what the other posters said, start drinking lots of water if you aren't already. Being dehydrated can cause contractions, and it's easy to get that way when you're on bed rest. You feel thirsty less often when you're not really active.

If it were me, I'd probably wait and see if they continue, but I'm also the type that would plan on arriving at the hospital at around 7-8 cm, and I wouldn't be completely freaked out if the baby arrived on the way to the hospital. Statistically speaking, you probably aren't like that, so you may want to call. Seriously, there are people who are paid for answering calls like yours on the weekend. You won't upset them if you call.

I am drinking a bottle of water right now to see if that helps. I know my mom is at the movies until 3:30 (she is going to watch DS#1 while I deliver), so I figure I will just see what happens for another half hour or so. My DH is a firefighter and is at work. His sage advice for the day, if I can see the head, I need to go to the hospital . Men are not the greatest help in these situations!!

Very, Very, VERY LONG!!

I was on pitocin for over 15 hours, before Braden was finally born (I pushed for 3 1/2 hours). That is probably one of the reasons I am not in a real hurry. I feel like if this is the real thing I have hours to get there (my brain knows that second babies often come much faster).

Your first labor sounds similar to mine!

In fact, it was exactly 14 years ago today that I was arriving at the hospital because my water had broken.

They admitted me and we waited for labor to start.

And we waited.

And waited some more.

Nothing.

Pitocin was started the next morning at 8AM and I started pushing at 2:30pm. He was finally born at 4:53pm!

With my 2nd, they induced me because my blood pressures started to rise.

Again the Pit was started at 8AM and after pushing for only 20 minutes at 1:40pm I had another son.

Much faster and easier with the second!

Well, I am glad to know if I get induced this time (which I am scheduled to do at 38 weeks) it may be much easier.

It sounds to me like you are in labor. My contractions were all over the place and I couldn't time them.

I was on "The Pit" with DS1 and DD. I was in labor and pushed 1/2 the amount of time that I did with DS1.

Okay, here's my history: I was induced with the first 2. With #3, I was doing so well, the OB said I wouldn't go past my due date, but he wasn't going to "automatically" induce me. I was SOO paranoid of going into labor at home (by myself I wouldn't have minded as much as in front of my 6 and 7yos!). Well, at ~38+ weeks, I started having really serious B-H contractions--they were a ittle irregular, but they kept me up all night--not strong enough for real labor, but too strong to let me sleep. Noon the next day, I had an OB appointment, but I was tight as a drum. he says, come back in three days. ~5 that night, they are getting worse and worse, so now I'm thinking, is this the real thing? When do I call/go? Having been induced I was so clueless. I didn't want to scare the kids, maybe I could wait until they went to bed? Anyway, finally ~7:30, it was clear it was going to be soon. I masked as well as I could in front of the kids, we headed out. Got to the hospital at 8:35. All the way down, I could talk between contractions (here's the emergency lunch money, how to fix Belle's hair--typical mom concerns!). Celeste was born at 9:12. i only had 5 or 6 of those "10 on the Richter scale" contractions, and she was out. The doctor even missed it! Anyway, my point is, if you can talk through a contraction, it's a faker (although the pain is real--what's up with that?). Going into labor naturally is MUCH better than being induced. I'm a fan of short labor, definitely. best of luck!

I too was induced with my first two kids so I had no clue what labor was. I thought I was in labor one night and we went to the hospital, only to be told by a very nasty nurse that I was not in enough pain to be in labor. The contractions continued off and on for the next four days. That night I felt like I did four days prior - contractions but nothing regular. By the time I figured out these were for real (and I talked through them), I was delivering my third kid on the kitchen floor with the help of my terrified husband.

Lesson: Call your doctor or go to the hospital. Worst they can do is send you back home...

Call -- my second and third kids came really fast. Almost pushed the third one out on the floor with nobody around. They couldn't believe how fast I went from no dilation to giving birth.

we must have gone to the same hospital because a stupid doctor told me to come back when I was in more pain. Well, to make a long story short, I really was in labor!

Sounds like my first one. The contractions never stopped but I did get sent home twice in 3 days because they weren't strong enough. I'm glad I went though.
My second one was less than 6 hours from the first contractions to delivery!!! Started with "Ooh! That was a good one" and then BAM I knew I was in labor. When I got to the hospital they asked if I wanted any pain medication/epidural and I said yeah, I'd want an epidural, but I had time 'cause my first labor was so slow. The nurse chuckled at me and said that the second one is almost always faster. I had no idea it would be DAYS faster!! LOL!! 3 hours after that conversation I was holding my son.
In my opinion you should go in and get checked. And good luck! We'll all be awaiting news!!

I did go to the hospital and I was having contractions every 3 to 5 mins, but the strength was not consistant. So, they gave me some morphine and some medicine to stop the contractions and had me sleep for a while and sent me home.

Sooooo, no baby and now no contractions. I will keep everyone updated!!

I had a real desire to strangle that nurse. Like they know what kind of pain we are in...

Hope yours turned out better than mine (even though DD was fine, she had to have 48 hours of antibiotics unnecessarily due to the doctor and hospital's oops!!)

Watch out for those contractions that feel like cramps. With DD#1 I was induced and had strong, regular contractions for 16 hours. With DD#2 (one year later) I had crampiness most of the day, I didn't start having regular contractions until 7:30 PM 3-7 minutes apart. I called the doctor at 8:00 and she said wait, I called at 8:20 and she said wait and I said NO, I was coming in. By the time our baby sitters arrived and we got to the hospital at 9:00, I was fully dialated (after I had to beg the doctor to check me). DD#2 was born at 9:40PM.

Labor with #1 was long and hard, with #2 it was short but extrmenly intense. I begged for drugs but there was no time. My mother had similar labors, short but intense. I think our bodies react very differently when it is natural.
