Labor-Moms please help**Update page 2**

I begin to wonder just how much some doctors actually know!!! My first child was born after about 10 hrs. total labor. He actually got stuck since his head was so large. He was also 3 weeks past my due date. I'm surprised he didn't ask for the car keys that night!! He was stuck for an hour. Not so pleasant. He ended up being 10 1/2 pds. My dd, was born after I ate a nice big dinner of about 12 pancakes. I had seen the doctor that afternoon and he told me I'll see ya next week. You're not quite 'ripe' yet. 3hrs. later I'm back at the hospital. Contractions about every 5 minutes. They look at me and say come back when you're in labor. That was at 7 p.m. Chrys was born at 11. Now, with Katie, I was 1 week past due date. Everything was fine. I went in for my normal stress test. Evidently my bp was out of sight. It was fine 5 days earlier. So, they sent me for an ultrasound. Everything is fine but bp still up. So, I end up at the ob's office. He says he wants to induce. Now, I have quick somewhat easy deliveries. I don't really want to be messing with a pit drip. I mean...I had heard horror stories. But, since I live in Central Ma and my hospital is in Boston proper, I figure what the heck. So, at 4 pm they admit me. At 6 they start the drip. They tell me if nothing is happening by 10 they'll shut it down and restart in the morning. So, they upped the dose a little at about 7:30. About 30 minutes later I felt a huge contraction (they had been quite manageble up to now) with a big pop. Now, I've always had to have my water broken well into labor. It has never happened on it's own. My poor dh goes running into the hall yelling for a nurse. So embarrassing. Then, when the nurse comes in, she looks and says yep, it's a coming all right. Let's get you into a delivery suite. So, now get a mental picture here folks...there I am walking down this hall, that's full of laboring women and their dh's, dragging my pit drip/saline solution drip behind me, all the while dripping amniotic fluid!!! The nice young man (young being an understatement) came in and gave me a nice epidural. Now, this is what they call at Beth Israel a 'walking epidural'. It kills the labor pains but you can still get up and walk around. Okay, sounds nice and really works. However, about 15 minutes later, my doctor arrives, looks and says...oops, not going to have time for the other part of the epidural!! Let's just start that pushing. Well. I have to tell you. Those of you that have had labors with no meds at all....you are truly something!!! My first two labors were a long time ago and they just slapped a gas mask over my face when the baby was crowning. I missed all that. Not this time!!! And, I have the great honor to have a doctor who doesn't like to do episiotomies unless absolutely neccesary. Oh my!!! The part of the epidural I had does nothing for the pushing part of transition. Not a pleasant experience in my opinion. Then mr. wonderful with the needle came in and looked at the new baby and says...I guess I'm a little late. So, all in all from first contractin to baby it was only about 3 hrs for me.
Keep us posted. I'll be thinking about you. Maybe you're in labor as we speak!!! Go girl!!
