I have never been on a holiday weekend, but may be going this Labor Day. How are the crowds and the heat during this time of year?

Our last weekend there last year was Labor Day weekend and to our surprise it wasn't really that bad. Actually the Friday of the holiday weekend it was dead in the MK. We are going back this year but Labor Day weekend will be the start of the trip. I hope for the same crowd level.

I will be honest. The heat is terrible. I guess it depends on where you are from. The temps didn't get much into the 90s but the humidity is what was awful. It rained every day around 3pm or so but just a quick shower. We still enjoyed ourselves though.

I posted a thread on the Theme Parks board and did not get too many replies. Two different CM's told me that bookings were way down for the weekend. If you put in for the Dis Hot Special for the Swan/Dolphin for $139 (I tried it for two rooms), they have availabiltity. when I called the other morning for code AZZ, again everything I checked on (with two rooms) had availabiltiy with the code, even Poly concierge! In know that South FL schools go back on Aug 16 and other schools in FL go back even earlier.

We've gone the past 2 Labor Day holiday weekends and it's never been that crowded. It is HOT and usually rains in the afternoon for a brief shower. I'm hoping since it's September this year the crowds will still be down since we are going back again.

We've been Labor Day week-end many times in the past. Alas, we haven't been able to the past couple of years due to school schedule changes for our family, but we always liked going during that time. Yes it is hot and as others said it depends on what you think it too hot. We don't mind it, we're from the northeast and love Disney in the summer, we really should live there!! LOL!!! Anyway, the only time we found crowded was Labor Day Saturday in the MK. It seems a lot of locals go that day. I would just avoid MK that day, maybe do Epcot, that's what we always did. Also, I would avoid DD Saturday night also, tons of locals are there, Pleasure Island and DQ are usually very crowded. I think you will enjoy Labor Day Week-end. Believe me I would be there too if my hubby (a teacher) and my son didn't have to start school early. We leave before labor day.

Hope this helps. Have a Wonderful Vacation!!

we were there last labor day ourselves. There for the week before into that weekend. While the week was dead as heck we did notice crowds pick up during that weekend although not too bad. Waittimes went up slightly.

Apparently labor day weekeend is a locals weekend. The last horah before kids are in full swing with school.

:chat: I usually go down every year at this time, last year I noticed the parks were a little crowded during the day for the Tom Joyner Family Reunion, but the crowds died down in the evening as the "reunion" group has their own festivites in the parks, I know that MGM studios will be closed to the public on Saturday night 9/4...I guess those of us who will be down there during that Labor day weekend will need to check the boards at the Resorts and parks for announcements of early closings etc due to TJ functons. :wave2:

With a slightly later Labor Day (Sep 6) expect crowds to be even slightly lighter than a Labor Day that occurs on Sep 1 or 2 (as in the the prior two years.)

As others have said, Labor Day weekend being crowded (as the guide books will tell you) is a big myth. It is by far the least crowded holiday weekend of the year. And, for those lucky enough to stick around immediately after Labor Day, they are treated to unbelievably light crowds.

Managing your days during Labor Day weekend gives you an even more enjoyable time. As others have mentioned, Saturday is quite crowded at MK. You'll find it much better on Friday and on Monday (Labor Day.) A good choice for Saturday of that weekend is Epcot.

If you really want to se Spectro, choose the Sunday night running - it is much less crowded than Saturday night - even after the change in EE mornings.

As a guage of how pleasant MK is on Monday (Labor Day) last year we walked up to Crystal Palace at 12:30 in the afternoon and were seated immediately.

One Labor Day morning - 2000 I believe (back when Early Entry was Monday) there was a cast member in the breezeway under the Castle asking people who were entering Fantasyland if they'd like to have breakfast with Cinderella - Can you imagine?!?

We were thinking about going Labor Day weekend and week, then come to find out not only is the Tom Joyner reunion going on, but Night of Joy. With that in mind, we decided to move it down one week and go the 10th-19th instead.

Just didn't want to risk it.

I'm so grateful for the information and the Sept resort discount. I've planned a weekend trip thanks to my cousin's upcoming wedding in Deland for 9/4. How are Sunday evening's at EPCOT? My DD and niece will want to try the single's line for Test Track and Mission:SPACE while I stake out a viewing area for Illuminations. Any suggestions?

To my knowledge, Night of Joy is the following weekend.

FL schools are going back early this year.

What is the Tom Joyner reunion? We are going down Sept 3 to Sept 8. First day being Saturday:
Itinerary so far:

Sept 4 (Sat) Epcot
Sept 5 (Sun) MK
Sept 6 (Mon) AK....then MGM
Sept 7 (Tue) MGM...then MK

It sounds like crowds will not be too bad for us!!
