Anybody here doing the LA Weight loss diet? I have to admit that I love that place but I have slowed down considerably. Any helpful hints? So far I have lost 33 pounds but still have another 20 or 30 to go.

I have considered this place but don't know much about it. Can you tell me a little about it? Are there mtgs, food, supplements, costs??

Thanks and good luck!!

I love this place but it is pricey. You first pay for consultation and the number of weeks you have to lose up front. They do have supplements and a few food selections but they are not mandatory. If you want a warranty/guarantee then you have to purchase the food which totals about 20.00 per week. By food I mean, protein bars and fruit drinks. They do have things like snacks, salad dressings etc but they are not necessary. The supplements are a total rip off, terribly expensive and I don't do it. I just go to Walmart and buy them myself. I have to weigh in 3 times a week to keep my warranty going. In fact, I didn't lose in the amount of time they thought so the additional weeks will not cost me.

You can figure 7.00 per week for weight loss and I believe they figure the amount by 2 pounds a week. Mine also included a year of maintenance. Plus some sort of fee. I just checked my paperwork and it didn't break it down as to the different costs.

Doesn't hurt to call and make an appt just to talk to them. That is what I did.

Thanks Sandy

Sounds very interesting. Do you really have to weigh-in 3 times a week. Do you actually have to go to the place to weigh-in? What else happens when you go in weekly? Do you just talk to someone one-on-one or is it a group?

Sorry-so many questions but I was thinking about calling on Friday :teeth:

I did LA Weight Loss 2 years ago and lost about 20 lbs. in less than 3 months. The weight came off fast. The only problem I had is that once I got off the "plan", the weight came on fast. And I mean fast. As with any "diet", you have to learn to maintain. As I never met my goal, I never went on maintenance.

When I first started, I really loved it. Yes, I would go 3X per week (although they told me it was not mandatory, but they do want you to go at least once a week). The bars that they had (and you really need them to follow the plan) were very expensive. I think they were the most expensive part of the plan. They were good, though. They are soy-protein bars. Basically, soy protein is difficult to digest so your body needs to speed up metabolizm to process the food, which is why they help with weight loss. Anyways, I think they were about $14 per box and you needed 2 boxes a week. They have you on those throughout weight loss and then tapering off through maintenance. It's very expensive.

Also, the people they had working at the center were a very interesting group to say the least. I started with a woman who was thin, who was very motivating and had actually done the program herself. Well, she left after I had been going for about 8 weeks. The rest of the staff were extremely overweight and they would say to me, "I did the program and lost XX lbs., I'm just taking a break right now". OK. They had such a high turnover rate that I never had the same person more than 2X. It was very discouraging. If I was paying that much money I wanted real consultation with someone who really cared. None of the staff that was left cared about me or my weight loss at all. "There is a special on supplements right now". "There is a sale on bars right now if you need more". I really felt by the end all they were was a bunch of salespeople trying to make their quotas.

I even spoke to the District Manager about my feelings at the end when I was out of weeks and bars. She told me "I will set up a personal meeting with you and the new manager for this center who starts this week so you can talk about it". I agreed. The day I went in for the meeting, she was walking out of the office at the same time. I said to the receptionist, "I have an appt. with Suzie the manager". "Oh she just left for the day". Apparently she figured since I was just rejoining, I didn't need to speak to her after all. Needless to say, I didn't rejoin.

I just started Weight Watchers again. I'm doing really good this time and have lost 6.2 lbs. in 4 weeks. I know the weight won't come off as fast as it did with LA Weight Loss, but I also know that I don't need their bars or have to spend thousands of dollars for a very simple low-carb diet. I really didn't get anything else out of it.

I'm sorry to be so negative about them. This is just my experience. I just want everyone to know it's not always end up being what they describe in the consultation you have.

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

My center is great. No problem. They are fairly new and keep adding new people. Mine are very caring and take the time to talk to me. Even the new ones. The bars are not mandatory nor are their supplements. It is a one on one session. I do feel that they are in it for the products but it doesn't bother me. I went in knowing that was probably going to be the case. When they push (which isn't a high sales pitch) I just say no, I can't afford it. They drop it. If they know that they can't push you they won't bother you. Sorry Jacki for your disappointment. Weight Watchers was my disappointment. I guess to each his own. I tried WW 3 different times and never had success. I don't blame THEM. A diet fails because you fail.

By the way, MnMom, it won't cost "thousands of dollars". Mine certainly won't cost that and I had 60 pounds to lose.

I did Weight Loss Clinic years ago and I find them very similar with the exception of the bars and drinks. I was able to keep off the weight for over 5 years. I slowly started gaining it back after the 5 years. You just have to watch what you eat all the time as in any weight loss program.

I chose LA because it was on an individual basis. I don't like the Weight Watcher group meeting. I don't do groups well. (talking etc) I find their meetings were very hard to meet time wise. With LA you can chose your time Mon-Sat.

Good luck with what ever program you choose. Honestly, my experience is MUCH different than the previous poster.

Oh I wish my center had been like that. Like I said, that is how they started out, but slowly it got bad. I think it just depends on the managers.
Sorry if I was negative.

No offense taken. You were just disappointed.
